“Lore” is a very successful podcast, but its televised adaptation does very little to earn the new medium. Yes, the six-part series pulls out every trick in the TV playbook in an attempt to make these factual explanations of urban myths visually stimulating: There are creepy animated sequences, choice bits of archival footage, and a number of live-action scenes performed by familiar character actors.

Harvey Weinstein appeared to be in good spirits while leaving his West Village townhouse in New York City on Friday, a day after apologizing for his “bad behavior” in the wake of the New York Times bombshell report about allegations of sexual harassment made against him.
The 65-year-old powerhouse film executive was photographed smiling in a black T-shirt and blue jeans as he walked from his home while carrying a stack of papers and what looked to be an iPad. His wife, Marchesa fashion designer Georgina Chapman, was also spotted leaving the townhouse separately.

On Friday, British actress Jessica Hynes came forward with her own account about Harvey Weinstein’s alleged inappropriate behavior.
“I was offered a film role at 19,” she wrote on Twitter. “Harvey Weinstein came on board and wanted me to screen-test in a bikini. I refused & lost the job.”
“Holy s—t,” replied British writer Jack Howard, “I knew the story but didn’t know who it was about.”
“I’m sure there are many more…” Hynes replied.
Hynes, now 44, is best known for starring in the two Bridget Jones sequels as Bridget’s friend Magda, and the cult horror comedy Shaun of the Dead.

Polly Bergen: 'Desperate Housewives' Emmy nominee; winner for 'The Helen Morgan Story' (photo: Felicity Huffman, Doug Savant, and Polly Bergen in 'Desperate Housewives') (See previous article: "Polly Bergen: Actress on Richard Nixon 'Enemies List'.") Polly Bergen began her lengthy — and to some extent prestigious — television career in 1950, making sporadic appearances in anthology series. She won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Single Performance – Lead or Supporting — beating Julie Andrews, Helen Hayes, Teresa Wright, and Piper Laurie — for playing troubled torch singer Helen Morgan (Show Boat) in the 1957 Playhouse 90 episode "The Helen Morgan Story," featuring veteran Sylvia Sidney as Morgan's mother. Curiously, Bergen's retelling of Helen Morgan's story was broadcast the same year that Ann Blyth starred in Michael Curtiz's Morgan biopic. Also titled The Helen Morgan Story, the film focused on the relationship between the singer and a...

CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson resigned Monday after months of ill-concealed unhappiness with the network. It was the denouement of a drama that’s been played out among The Reporters Who Cover Television for some time, with Attkisson as the heroine. But while conservatives cast her as the gutsy reporter who stood up to her network’s liberal bias and its deep-sixing of her work on Benghazi and other Obama administration evasions and departs after acrimonious contract talks fell apart, liberals cast her as the mainstream investigative journalist who fell down the agenda-driven reporting rabbit hole. Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich Cc’d her network when she retweeted Attkisson’s “I have resigned from CBS,” while New York magazine headlined, “The Right’s Favorite Mainstream Benghazi Reporter Resigns From CBS.” Yeah, it went like that pretty much all day. Lara Logan should not be let go by CBS News over her botched Benghazi report on 60 Minutes, former CBS newsman Dan Rather said in response to a question by CNN’s Piers Morgan. She should be judged by her body of work, said the former network news anchor who got pushed out of the network over a mangled CBS News report with which he was involved, back in 2004. Logan and producer Max McClellan are on a leave of absence over their report, based on now-discredited claims made by security contractor Dylan Davies that he witnessed the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Last week, lawyers for Bryan Zuriff filed a sentencing submission asking for lenience for their client for his involvement in an illegal gambling group — now the government has put in its two cents. Unlike Zuriff’s lawyers and famous friends like Judd Apatow who wrote letters of support, the feds said Monday that they want the former Ray Donovan Ep to serve up to a year behind bars: the maximum for the charges. “In its November 18, 2013, Report to the Court, the Probation Department calculates a Guidelines range of six to twelve months’ imprisonment,” said the sentencing submission filed in federal court in NYC (read it here) yesterday. “The Government agrees with this Guidelines calculation, which is consistent with the calculation set forth in the plea agreement.” In making its point, the seven-page filing quotes from wiretaps that reveal how intrinsically Zuriff was involved in the group’s organization and activity.
