Drew Carey is known for handing out large amounts of cash on The Price Is Right to the game show’s various winners.
The actor, comedian, and game show host also admitted to making millions of dollars from his former sitcom, The Drew Carey Show.
He credits the show writers for helping him do that, so it’s no surprise that he generously spent money to help out writers during the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) strike.
He racked up a hefty ongoing tab to cover that large food bill but wouldn’t stop paying during the strike.
It even resulted in a call from his accountant suggesting he stop spending so much money on that.
While hosting the WGA Awards ceremony this past weekend, Carey commented on why he paid the food bill during the strike, calling it “the right thing to do.”

Drew Carey is opening up about the hefty investment he made by paying for striking writers meals at two Los Angeles-area restaurants in 2023.
In an appearance at the Writers Guild of America awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night, the comedian addressed his decision to pay for WGA members’ meals at Bob’s Big Boy and Swingers over the course of the 148-day strike. The last time he paid for writers meals, the total bill came out to about $67,000, he stated. “But some of you decided, ‘Oh yeah, I’m going to get a shake and dessert,’ as it was way more this time,” he joked.
As the strike dragged on in 2023, he said, his accountant started to get nervous. “When the bills started piling up, my accountant called and was like, ‘Is there any way we can dial this back?'” Carey got on a three-way call with his publicist and accountant,...

‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.

Perhaps you've had this experience:
You hear about an interesting movie or show, or you remember an old favorite, and you reason that since it's a well-known title, it's several years old, and you subscribe to several streaming services, you should be able to watch it for free somewhere.
Then you conduct the research that's necessary to find anything in the vast streaming landscape, and you realize that you're gonna have to shell out to rent or buy this thing.
Or worse, that film or series simply is not available. Anywhere.
If you're lucky, you can go on Amazon and have the DVD delivered in a couple of days, but you haven't seen your DVD player since Obama was in office, and you need something to watch now.

Actor and comedian Drew Carey went on an impressive journey to improve his health, which included losing 1,000 pounds over the years.
The Price is Right host recently revealed that he used to live an unhealthy and unhappy life following his appearances on the popular game show.
“I would go out to Swingers diner after The Price Is Right my first year, get a plate of pasta, a cupcake and iced tea with a bunch of lemons,” Carey shared in an upcoming People magazine story.
It didn’t stop there, though, as he also revealed he would “have Doritos and several Pepsis, and take an Ambien to go to sleep” at home.
Carey told the publication, “It was miserable” to live in that manner.
However, the 65-year-old show host began to take his health seriously, even reversing his Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

Friends was and is a blessing to so many people around the world. And so was Matthew Perry.
The alchemy of brilliant writing, a stellar cast, voice-of-a-generation twentysomethings, and hilarity and emotionality in abundance, made it a wonderful series in 1994 — and unbeknown to all of us, were the ingredients to continue to impact generations almost 30 years after that. As the head of comedy development at Warner Bros. Television at that time, it’s definitely a shining star in my career.
Casting the six Friends, along with creators Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin Bright, was challenging. They all had to be “stars.” The chemistry had to be believable. You just had to love them. And no one was more elusive than Chandler.
We had happily cast David Schwimmer (Ross), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Courteney Cox (Monica) and Matt LeBlanc (Joey), and we had two roles to go just days before we started production on the pilot.

If it feels like the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are the talk of the internet right now, it’s for good reason. Hollywood is essentially shut down due to the work stoppage, and the unlikely hero of the union is SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher. After verbally eviscerating Disney CEO Bob Iger and standing tall and confident in the defense of her fellow actors and writers, fans worldwide were reminded of how Drescher’s fierce demeanor has translated to fiery excitement both on and off the screen. She has long been a combative force in the fight for marriage equality, and she was an outspoken spokesperson for women’s cancer research after overcoming uterine cancer in the early 2000s.
Fran Drescher’s biggest role remains on the classic 1990s sitcom The Nanny, in which she played the overbearing live-in nanny of a wealthy New York City family of four. Like many comedies of the decade,...

Diedrich Bader has played the best friend before. He did it for nine seasons of The Drew Carey Show. He did it two decades later on Pamela Adlon’s meditative Better Things. He also did it plenty of other times in between. But something about being the Bob Odenkirk’s wingman on Lucky Hank, the AMC series based on Richard Russo’s 1997 novel Straight Man, made it feel different for Bader — a man whose IMDb tally currently stands at 237 acting credits.
“I had stopped feeling like an artist and more like a craftsman making cabinetry,” Bader says of his mindset before taking on the black comedy about aging academics. “There’s a lot of artistry in making cabinetry, but maybe once you’ve made too many, it’s like “Here’s another cabinet!” With this, I felt like “Here’s everything I’ve got. I can bring comedy, but I can also bring some reality.

After a low opening turnout in theaters for LGBTQ rom-com “Bros,” writer and star Billy Eichner wrote on Twitter Sunday that it was “disappointing” that “straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up.” Dot-Marie Jones, who co-stars in the film, echoed Eichner’s sentiments Sunday evening at the Best in Drag Show, an annual parody drag pageant that functions as a charity benefit for people living with HIV/AIDS, and at which Jones was serving on the panel of judges.
“There’s so much heart and so many wonderful good laughs in this [movie],” Jones told Variety at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. “I don’t know if it’s because it’s, you know, LGBTQ. It’s not contagious — fuckin’ go see a movie, you know what I mean? It’s crazy.”

On September 8, 2022, Robert Zemeckis' live-action adaptation of the Walt Disney animated classic "Pinocchio" comes to Disney+. It is yet another entry in the House of Mouse's ongoing attempt to remake their classic animated films, repackaging them with a new veneer. Yes, it is easy to decry the increased commodification of art, the lack of originality from a studio once known for innovation, and crassly utilizing the work of talented artists in service of keeping people subscribed to a streaming service. However, we know it will at least be better than the last time Disney took the classic "Pinocchio" story to a live-action arena.
On May 7, 2000, as part of "The Wonderful World of Disney," ABC aired "Geppetto," an original movie musical that took the story of "Pinocchio" and told it from the perspective of the puppet boy's creator/father, starring one of the company's biggest stars at the time in the titular role: Drew Carey.

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.
Macdonald’s death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment. The comedian’s longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when he died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.
“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Nexstar Media will launch multicast network Rewind TV on September 1, offering nearly 50 million TV households (roughly 40% of the U.S.) a menu of 1980s and 1990s sitcoms.
Shows in the initial lineup include The Drew Carey Show, Murphy Brown, Growing Pains, Wings, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Who’s the Boss and Family Ties.
The new network is meant to complement Nexstar’s Antenna TV, which specializes in 1960s and ’70s fare, including weeknight reruns of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
An array of multicast networks have lit up over the past 15 to 20 years in the wake of the TV industry’s transition to high-definition signals and the corresponding increase in digital capacity. Ben Stiller has revealed that, despite outcry from fans calling for a brief scene featuring the current United States President to be cut from the film, he won’t be editing Donald Trump out of his 2001 comedy “Zoolander.” Stiller discussed the controversy on a recent episode of The Daily Beast’s podcast “The New Abnormal.”
“I’ve had people reach out to me and say, you should edit Donald Trump out of ‘Zoolander,'” Stiller said, referring to a scene set at the VH1 Fashion Awards that includes Donald and Melania Trump as red-carpet interviewees discussing the greatness of self-obsessed male model Derek Zoolander. “But at the end of the day, that was a time when that exists and that happened,” said Stiller about requests to edit the film.
