Director Joe Wright and writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth have all boarded the upcoming Paramount+ series “The Department.”
The Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios series, which was announced with a straight-to-series order in February 2023, is based on the French drama series “Le Bureau des Legendes” created by Eric Rochant. Wright will direct the first two episodes and executive produce, while the Butterworths will writer and executive produce all episodes. George Clooney was originally announced as directing the series. He and Grant Heslov remain onboard as executive producers via Smokehouse Pictures.
“Joe Wright is a visionary director with a gift of focusing on intricate details to craft immersive and visually striking stories,” said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “And, Jez and John-Henry are masterful writers whose witty and emotionally charged language dives deep into their characters’ moral complexities, while simultaneously creating a propulsive narrative. Alice left an indelible mark on American TV. Based on a relatively minor Martin Scorsese film, the weekly 30-minute sitcom followed the day-to-day of a widowed mom (played by Linda Lavin) who experienced car trouble in Arizona and never left. Nearly five decades after its 1976 debut, all but two of the original Alice cast members have died. Who’s still alive?

Before marrying Donald Hyatt and becoming a mom, Alice Spivak was a lounge singer in Newark, New Jersey. After her husband died in a trucking accident, she loaded up her station wagon and set her sights on Los Angele, hoping to revive her career. Fortunately for sitcom viewers, the newly inspired chanteuse and her adolescent son, Tommy, only made it as far as Phoenix before their car broke down. Intending a temporary stay, Alice rented an...

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Sylvester Stallone has had a few franchises over the years – Rocky, Rambo, The Expendables – but he also has a film that should have been a franchise starter, but never received any of the sequels it deserved. That’s the 1986 classic Cobra (watch it Here), which also happens to be the movie The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are talking about in the new episode of the series. To find out what they had to say about Cobra, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by George P. Cosmatos from a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone (which was apparently loosely based on the novel Fair Game by Paula Gosling), Cobra has the following synopsis: Los Angeles policeman Lt. Marion “Cobra” Cobretti finds himself at the center of a spate of murders carried out by a secret society called New Order: killers who select...

Exclusive: Warner Bros. is really upping the stakes to its I Am Legend franchise to a stratospheric level and bringing back for the next chapter, not just original star Will Smith, but he’ll be joined by Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan in what will rep the duo’s first big movie together as stars and producers. Talk about two big stars getting together, between Smith and Jordan combined, their movies have grossed a massive $12.3 billion at the box office.
Plot details, of course, are being kept under wraps.
Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman, who adapted the Richard Matheson 1954 novel, is also returning to pen the follow-up and producer as well.
All these deals are closed, I understand, and a director is not attached as of yet as the project is still being developed. Francis Lawrence directed the original 2007 movie.
Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing via their Outlier Society banner.

Sean Penn defiantly swims against the Hollywood current with “Flag Day,” a labor of love that harkens back to another era of moviemaking. Jennifer Vogel’s memoir “Flim-Flam Man: A True Family History,” published in 2004, resisted film financing over 18 years, said producer William Horberg (“The Queen’s Gambit”) at the Cannes afterparty at the Martinez. Back at the start, producer Michael De Luca loved the project, and after many detours and obstacles, when the MGM studio head saw the nearly finished film, enthusiastically acquired it for release in 2021 (just as the studio was acquired by Amazon). Horberg was joyful at the film’s good fortune.
Like many other well-reviewed films at Cannes, a robust theatrical future is by no means assured for this old-fashioned ’70s-’80s father-daughter story, which marks Penn’s first time acting in his own film, after helming six features. Thanks to Matt Damon, Penn said at Sunday’s press conference,...

Had Sylvester Stallone had his way, the now cult classic Beverly Hills Cop would have been a much different film. Before Eddie Murphy was cast in the role that would define his acting career, the part of Axel Foley was offered to Sly. Yet the Italian Stallion had other ideas in mind for what he wanted the film to be, so he took it upon himself to rewrite the script, moulding it to suit his strengths as a white-knuckled mortal terminator. As screenwriter Daniel Petrie Jr told us last year, whilst it was "considered a coup to have written a script to attract...

Chicago – Cindy Crawford is one of the great supermodels, and while she acknowledges her one-of-a-kind beauty, it was also her intelligence and hard work that created her successful modeling and business careers. Ms. Crawford is also the Charity Challenge Ambassador for the Art Van furniture stores.
Ms. Crawford was born in DeKalb, Illinois, and was working in the prairie corn fields as a teenager, when her picture appeared in the local newspaper. The feedback from that photo convinced her to join the modeling profession. She was valedictorian at her high school as well, but pursued her modeling career by moving to New York City two years afterward. Her profile exploded, and she became one of the most popular supermodels in the 1980s and ‘90s, with visibility on magazine covers such as Vogue, People, Cosmopolitan, Elle and Allure. She even did a cover shot for the short lived political magazine called George,...

Washington, Apr.7: Cindy Crawford has revealed that her action-thriller flick 'Fair Game' might be a failure for the world but not for her.
The American super model said in a video on 'Oprah's Lifeclass' series that she was not good at acting and it doesn't resonate with her, the Huffington Post reported.
The 48-year-old model said that she discovered that she was not one of those people that loves playing a role in front of a camera.
Crawford added that failures were great gifts because knowing what you don't want gets you one step closer to what you do want. (Ani)...

Worried your sex life isn't like it looks on TV or in the movies? Don't be. Sex involving food, a piano or gunfire is never as fun as it sounds
When you've been brought up with pop culture as your unofficial guardian, it's easy to assume that you've been lumbered with the world's dullest sex life. You're forever comparing your experiences with those you see on screen, and you beat yourself up when you inevitably fall short.
For instance, not one single person has ever attempted to stab me to death with a pickaxe mid-coitus, like Sharon Stone did to that poor chump at the start of Basic Instinct. No union of mine has ever ended with my partner shooting a baddie in the chest on a moving train at the point of orgasm, like Cindy Crawford did in Fair Game. Nor, to my eternal annoyance, have I ever been...

Cindy Crawford is back in the buff -- modeling in nothing more than a strategically-placed blanket! The 47-year-old supermodel looks incredible in a new menswear shoot for V Magazine, showing off her ridiculous physique in various states of undress.Cindy, now a mother of two, tells the mag about some of her riskier career moves -- but it sounds like she doesn't have that many regrets."I’ll try MTV, that sounds cool. But my agents were telling me not to do it. They said I could make more money doing other jobs," she says. "But they were wrong, and 'House of Style' opened a lot of doors.""When I did Playboy, it was a big deal because I was also in Vogue," she continues. "I trusted [photographer] Herb Ritts, which is why I did it. So those things worked out in my favor, and it gave me the confidence to go and do other projects.

The track record of supermodels making their way on to the big screen is not a particularly strong one. Cindy Crawford in "Fair Game?" Not so much. Gisele Bundchen in "Taxi?" No thank you. Heidi Klum in "Ella Enchanted?" Let's move on, please. Nevertheless, they keep trying, particularly so in the current generation. Lily Cole, for example, has actually had more success than most, with roles in films like "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus" and the upcoming "Snow White And The Huntsman." And now, one of Cole's catwalk colleagues is dipping her toes into acting waters. Screen Daily report that model Daisy Lowe, who has been a magazine fixture since she was 17, will make her major acting debut in the British thriller "Confine," which begins filming next month. In the directorial debut of Tobias Tobbell, who produced the well-regarded 2010 indie "The Drummond Will," Lowe will take the lead role...

Models appearing in movies is nothing new – ask Cindy Crawford about "Fair Game" sometime – but it does appear to have become a bit of a trend this past year. Brooklyn Decker and Rosie Huntington-Whitley managed to hold their own against Adam Sandler and Baysplosions, and became fixtures on many a casting wishlist. Now, Victoria's Secret Marisa Miller is making the jump from the catwalk and the small screen to the big, as The Hollywood Reporter says she's joining the cast of "R.I.P.D." Damn models. They aren't already blessed with fantastic gigs and incredible physical features, but now they're all able to act too. Miller's role actually reveals a new angle of the film that we hadn't heard of previously, and one that I don't think exists in Peter Lenkov's original story. It seems that when Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges are doing police duty on The Other Side, they appear as themselves,...

The model-turned-actress — like the singer-turned-actor or singer-turned-actor-turned-back-to-singer-cause-the-acting-didn’t-work-out — is nothing new in Hollywood. In fact, it’s given the industry the likes of Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry and Charlize Theron.
While Brooke Shields certainly made a splash in 1980 with The Blue Lagoon, it would be hard to argue she became a full-fledged movie star (on television, however, most certainly). Because, as far as supermodels go, none have really been able to make that transition. Just watch Cindy Crawford in Fair Game. Better yet, don’t. That’s not to say, some models haven’t become successful actresses, because there are scads of those (Rebecca Romijn,...

When it was announced that Megan Fox wouldn't be returning for the third installment of the "Transformers" franchise, many wondered who would be appealing enough to keep the predominantly young male fan base drooling.
Enter Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the knockout Victoria's Secret model, who is not only stepping off the runway and onto the big screen for her acting debut, but is taking over as the female lead in the billion-dollar franchise, for "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." While we still don't know how her character Carly will stack up against Fox's Mikaela, Rosie has already joined the ranks of models who have made the transition to film.
As we anticipate the 24-year-old beauty's breakout role, we look back at five memorable model's performances on celluloid (hey, it's one of the few times we can actually use "model" and "celluloid" in the same sentence), the good, the bad, and the (coyote) ugly.

I saw Brad Miska from Bloody Disgusting today at the supermarket and we were talking about the last Saw movie and how much I hated it and how he liked it. We both agreed that the ending would have worked better had we found out if John Kramer himself, during his tenure as Jigsaw, was victim to a larger game being played by someone else. Would have worked better than the cheap cop out shit they pulled instead. Regardless, Saw 3D came in #1 with an estimated $22.5 million. Not a big Bo compared to Pa 2's $41 million a week before. Pa would have killed Saw had they gone head to head again this year. I'm glad the Saw series is over. That cow was milked dry four movies ago.Pa 2 did good busines its second week with $16.5 million. Word of mouth kept the profits coming in. It has made $87 million worldwide.

Photo: 20th Century Fox If you've been paying attention to my predictions along the way you pretty much already know I have a rather firm belief behind a certain number of films. Based on the films I've seen I am most certain the absolute locks for a Best Picture nomination are The King's Speech, The Social Network, 127 Hours, Black Swan, Toy Story 3 and Inception. This leaves four spots open and of those four spots I am banking on the Coen brothers' True Grit to be yet another lock (risky at this point in the game, but whatever). I'm basing this solely on the fact it's a Coen film and the reaction to the trailer from those that watched it online. This leaves me with three wild card choices.
The most prominent of those three is probably David O. Russell...

Paranormal Activity 2 broke the box office opening day record for a supernatural horror movie with $20.1 million bucks, earning $41.5 estimated dollars for the weekend. Big numbers and don't be surprised if a third isn't announced very soon. I enjoyed Pa 2 for what it was. It helped fill in story details from the first movie and the scares were effective. The Odds: Steve Pond gathers reactions from members of the National Association of Theater Owners to the 10 upcoming films that were screened for the group during last week’s ShowEast conference in Orlando, and concludes that “the news is good for ‘The Fighter,’ ‘Tangled,’ and ‘Morning Glory,’ but not so much for ‘Due Date’ and ‘Fair Game.’” (The event “marked one of the first times anyone outside of Paramount” had seen “The Fighter,” and Pond’s sources reiterated what Scott has been indicating for weeks on his projection charts: the film’s strongest awards prospects are Christian Bale for best supporting actor and Melissa Leo for best supporting actress.)

Women and Hollywood: Melissa Silverstein can’t quite believe her eyes as “a feminist fall at the movies” begins to take shape thanks to many films “that have women leads who seem to be, well, quite feminist.” Among them: “Conviction,” “Fair Game,” “For Colored Girls,” “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest,” “I Am Love,” “Made in Dagenham,” “Secretariat,” and “The Tempest,” to name just a few.
IndieWire: Peter Knegt offers up 10 “underdog actresses for your consideration,” purposely excluding those whose work already “looks like a good bet for a nomination.” The list includes: Dale Dickey (“Winter’s Bone”), Chloe Moretz (“Let Me In”), Tilda Swinton (“I Am Love”), Mia Wasikowska in “The Kids Are All Right,” Jacki Weaver (“Animal Kingdom”), and Olivia Williams (“The Ghost Writer”). Quite a group.

Hollywoodnews.com: HollywoodNews.com’s Awards Season Roundup collects insights from around the Internet on films that are running in the Oscar race.
By 2012, the Academy would like to host the Oscars in late January or early February. Great idea.
Peter Weir’s “The Way Back,” which earned raves at this year’s Telluride festival, will receive an Oscar qualifying run in December, followed by a rollout in January.
About the race … Dave Karger at EW runs down the top categories.
CinemaBlend still sees “The Social Network” as the frontrunner, dismisses “Fair Game,” and starts banging the drum for Hailee Steinfeld of “True Grit” (based on the trailers).
Julie Taymor’s “The Tempest” gets its first trailer.
Did the fact that Peter Jackson is directing “The Hobbit” really deserve a “Toldja?”
And Scott Feinberg addresses Annette Bening and Julianne Moore both competing for Best Actress slots...

Veteran actor Ellen Burstyn believes young actors are misguided in believing an agent is a panacea. "I hear it all the time, 'How do I get an agent?' " she comments in the soft, almost breathy, voice that's become her vocal signature. "They feel the most important thing is to get an agent. It's not. The most important thing is to become a really good actor and to keep on studying, and if you do that and you have talent, people will start talking about it, and you'll find your way to an agent and work."Identified for more than 45 years with the iconic Actors Studio as a member, and now its co-president along with Harvey Keitel and Al Pacino, Burstyn is an impassioned advocate of ongoing training. "Talent only takes you so far," she says; that's a view she says is shared by current members, who are committed to...

As far as we can tell, there are precisely zero supermodels in Sean Penn and Naomi Watts’ new spy thriller (out Nov. 5) — which, depending on your personal taste, makes it more or less appealing than the 1995 movie of the same name (which starred Cindy Crawford’s mole as the mole of a super hot lawyer on the run from the Kgb). Instead, this one is based on the tell-all memoir of ex-cia operative Valerie Plame, (played by Naomi Watts) who was publicly exposed after her husband (Sean Penn) ruffled feathers in Washington by accusing the Bush administration of bending the...

A couple of months ago, it was announced that supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley would be replacing Megan Fox in Transformers 3. Far be it for me to judge what comes between Michael Bay and his casting couch -- maybe Huntington-Whiteley is a talented actress (fat chance) -- but the history has not been favorable to supermodels in film. And yet, just this week, Peter Berg -- who I used to have considerable respect for -- decided to cast another model in his latest, Battleship. Her name is Brooklyn Decker. I'm sure she's a brilliant actress. Here's a sampling of her "acting" talents.
Indeed, if the past is any indication, there's next to no reason to believe that supermodels can become serious actors. Or even credible. Or even not completely embarrassing. What the hell is Peter Berg thinking? Maybe the next time a dumbass director decides it's a good idea to hire...

It's been a whirlwind week for Transformers 3. First, explosion expert/tanline aficionado/director Michael Bay dropped his two-time leading lady Megan Fox. Or maybe Megan Fox dumped him? Either way, no more Fox.
Immediately following the news, the search began for a new face to star alongside Shia Labeouf (who's been busy bashing his own fair share of movies/directors). In pure Bay fashion, the list of ladies was a quick lesson in the golden ratio; women ranging from blockbuster-tested actresses (we were really holding out for Gemma Arterton) to models who could survive a scene to straight up pretty faces.
Now, it appears a decision has been made, and Bay has gone with option #3.
GeekWeek picked up the scoop and Deadline confirmed it, but there's solid evidence that we'll soon be seeing Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley facing off against Energon-hungry robots.
Ok, so Rosie doesn't have any acting cred,...

In today's roundup of Cannes news 'n' notes from around the web, politics are in the air as the festival enters its final few days.
With Cannes beginning to wind down, Xan Brooks tries to summon the enthusiasm to write about the last few days. But he says that folks on the street are talking more about what filmmakers might be going to Venice at the end of the summer (Malick, Eastwood, Schnabel, Boyle!) than what’s playing on the Croisette. Brooks sees “Fair Game” and is unimpressed, but he says the film “clearly excites the hell out of the French journalist...

Cannes kicked off its annual frenzy of star-studded premieres, parties and provocative arthouse films with a gala screening of the Hollywood blockbuster "Robin Hood."Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, who star as the legendary English outlaw and his love interest Lady Marian, strolled up the red carpet late Wednesday for a gala screening of the film by Ridley Scott. The festival jury led by Tim Burton took a swipe at Iran by leaving one chair symbolically empty for jailed Iranian director Jafar Panahi as they arrived on the stage for the opening ceremony in the festival palace.Panahi had been invited to join the jury but has been held in Tehran's notorious Evin prison since March, reportedly because he was making a film about the disputed 2009 Iranian presidential election. But controversy was unlikely to dim the star-power wattage of the 12-day festival due to host Sean Penn, Mick Jagger,...

This Fair Game is not a remake of the 1995 film starring William Baldwin and Cindy Crawford. Nor is it a remake of the 1986 film about a woman running a wildlife sanctuary in the Australian outback who is confronted by kangaroo hunters. I do like the tagline though, "They hunted her...terrorized her...and now they pay the price.". This Fair Game is directed by Doug Liman and stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The film is about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame (Watts) who has the...

The main thing that separates HeyUGuys from other film sites is one of the things I value most about us – we aren’t obsessed with the Hollywood Blockbuster. While we enjoy the privilege of bringing you coverage of the popcorntastic openings of films such as Iron Man 2 and The Prince of Persia we also embrace the opportunity to support newer voices in British cinema. To that end we spent last night in Mayfair. We were not there shopping for fine designer goods, nor were we fine-dining from a quadruple starred plate. We were there to celebrate film – gritty British film. That film was Just for the Record and the night was about as gritty and Britty as you can get without a bulldog, a Union Jack, or George and his Dragon putting in personal appearances!

Girl group The Like shows off the clothes everyone is dying to get their hands on!
Most girls I know can’t wait to scoop up an affordable and adorable piece from the Zac Posen for Target collection. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, just check out the video of girl group The Like, showing off the super cute clothes while singing their latest hit, “Fair Game.” And with prices ranging from $17.99 to $199.99, instead of splurging on one Posen piece you can stock your closet!
The retro video, inspired by old footage of The Beatles in their hotel room, was shot by Posen’s friend, director Gia Coppola. Even though you’ll have to wait until April 25 to get your hands on the clothes, you can pick out your fave items while watching the girls primp in their glam get-ups.

Chelsea Handler is our favorite late night chatter, for the simple fact that she doesn't play the nice-y nice games of Leno and Conan, nor get lost in sketch segments like Kimmel and Fallon. She does straight up bitchy commentary on the deserved, those who dare to eat hamburgers while drunk on camera, or exit cars sans panties or those who deign to have dented can mistresses on the side (allegedly) while married to fabulous, beautiful accomplished women. Fair game observation is her speciality, aided by her opening round table of comics who weigh in and add to the snarky mix. Michelle .Bombshell.
