- A lot of Native American men are shirtless, and some of the women wear midriff-style outfits, showing abdomens and bare arms. Nothing less than what a bathing suit will cover.
Violence & Gore

- There is gunplay and arrows are fired between settlers and natives.
- A Powhatan Indian is shot in the leg and wounded.
- John Smith is shot by Ratcliffe, but only to protect Chief Powhatan from the bullet. Again, no blood is shown.
- Ratcliffe calls the Powhatans "murderous thieves" and says "anyone who so much as looks at an Indian without killing him on site will be tried for treason and hanged."
- Some of the men talk sport of "killing the savages" and not wanting to miss the fun.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

- Despite the film having some undertones of comedy, the main tone is quite dark, and combined with the subject matter, it can be intense, making this one of Disney's darkest films in the Animated Canon.
- The movie itself is quite offensive to Native Americans.
- In the middle of the ocean and during a storm, a man is swept overboard. When others want to save him, the captain commands "No, he's lost". (The hero dives into the water anyway, and has a harrowing time getting the man back to ship; this includes a period of both being deep underwater, looking up at the bottom of the ship, which a young child could mistake for drowning.)
- The sequence shows both sides are marching towards war.
- The ending is very sad and depressing. This film is dark, with serious themes like racism, bigotry, genocide, freedom, greed, hatred and war, a generally intense music score, and some violent scenes.

- Kokoum is shot at and killed. No blood is shown, but the action is very clear, and more than makes up for that.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Pocahontas' betrothed husband is shot at and killed. This is shown in quite graphic detail.
- Chief Powhatan nearly executes John Smith with a large club.
