Sex & Nudity

  • A teenage girl is seen dressing up, her breast is visible for a second.
  • One of the teenage girls studying at the local school also works as a prostitute. She offers sex to a teacher. She asks him to help her with grammar for an essay and she comes to his house. There she strips down while the teacher prepares drinks. She is seen on the couch fully naked.
  • A teacher lusts after the teenage prostitute.

Violence & Gore

  • The disturbing nature, and graphic brutality of the violence, makes it possible that this movie was likely an 18 (in the UK) originally (and was rerated 15 on appeal), and more of a hard R than the moderate R (UK equivalent 15) it's advertised as (and possibly even originally NC-17, just like "Fresh"). This movie is like "La Haine" (which was similarly graphic in nature, and yet, strangely that movie also had a 15).
  • A teacher is stabbed by a student wielding a sharp knife. We see the teacher slumped against the wall, covered in blood after the attack.
  • A gang member murders a rival.
  • One of the gang members kills his teacher's dog. He is later tranquilized and wakes up to find his finger severed as an act of revenge.
  • A student is found dead from an apparent drug overdose.

Profanity

  • Don't let the UK rating fool you. Given the violence, sexuality, language, and all, this was likely an 18 originally. It's definitely an 18. Persistent hard R language throughout.
  • Cinemax content advisory for this movie: rated R for violence (V), graphic language (GL), brief nudity (BN), and adult content (AC).
  • Frequent usage of offensive words such as f***.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Moderate drug use, and plenty of references to drugs like marijuana.
  • A few scenes involving alcohol and smoking, one these involving two teachers playing a game of pool.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole nature of the movie is very chilling. There are several scenes that'll send viewers chills down their spines, because it, like "Fresh," shows humanity's depraved capability towards violence.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Not being able to take it anymore, from his girlfriend dumping him to the school firing him, Trevor succeeds in the game of Russian roulette, and takes his own life. For those used to Samuel L Jackson being the hero who wins in every movie, this is very upsetting and unsettling.
  • A man and a student both die in a game of Russian Roulette.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The stabbing and the Russian Roulette scenes are both intense.
