Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • We hear that a young girl was injured by a group of small dinosaurs (compsognathus).
  • Several herbivore dinosaurs destroy a camp, with no casualties shown.
  • Two tyrannosaurs attack a camp. One man trips as he runs, he screams before he is stomped on, and we see a fleeting glimpse of him stuck to the T-Rex's foot.
  • At least six team members are killed onscreen by velociraptors. We see the dinosaurs pounce on them or pull them down, but the actual deaths are hidden behind tall grass. It's implied that many more are killed offscreen.
  • A velociraptor is impaled on a spike. We see it thrashing around as blood flows from the wound.
  • A security guard pulls the aforementioned device out of the person's hand and proceeds to open the cargo-hold, releasing the tyrannosaur inside the cargo-hold. The dinosaur proceeds to chase several other security guards off the nearby pier, snapping its jaws at them with no success.
  • The tyrannosaur then proceeds to wreak havoc in San Diego. It crashes into a bus (which slides into a video rental store), smashes into cars, and breaks through buildings.
  • The tyrannosaur grabs a man in its mouth, crushes him in its jaws, sets him down behind a car, crushes him underfoot (offscreen) and begins eating him (also offscreen).

Profanity

  • One use of "shit."
  • Name-calling like "troglodyte," and "son of a bitch," is heard. Also, the use of bastard and goddamnit.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man takes a long swig from a flask.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is easily the most frightening and intense of the franchise
  • The dinosaur attacks portray peril, threat and menace. These instances are intense and there is sustained peril in these sequences. However, in some instances the outcome is reassuring and generally limited injury is shown other than a few cuts and bruises.
  • There are a couple jump scares, along with one prolonged sequence of dinosaurs chasing men.
  • Many of the deaths could be disturbing to young children especially the scene where a man is pulled out of his car and ripped in half.
  • The scene where three main characters are attacked in a trailer is very intense and ends with a man being ripped in half and the trailer falling off a cliff exploding, almost killing the people inside.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Human body-count: 2 (onscreen). 5 or 6 (offscreen).
  • Carr is picked up by two tyrannosaurs and ripped in half. This is shown very briefly in dark lighting; mainly just a silhouette.
  • Dieter is attacked by a group of compies. One of them chews on his lip for several seconds; soon, he is able to get rid of them and run away. Then they attack him again, this time fatally - the attack is behind a log, so cannot be seen, but we do see his blood running down a stream.
  • Dr. Burke notices a snake slithering into his shirt while he's trying to hide from a tyrannosaur inside a cave. In a panic, he trips and his arm slips into the dinosaur's jaw and lifted out of view. The sound of a bite is heard before blood pours down the waterfall in front of the cave.
  • It's implied that an entire boat crew is killed by a tyrannosaur. We see a severed hand hanging from the ship's wheel and an apparently dismembered arm holding a device (the arm-stump is out-of-view).
  • It's also implied that the tyrannosaur eats a dog, but all we see is it chomping on the empty doghouse.
  • Ludlow has his leg bitten by a tyrannosaur. He is eaten offscreen by a baby dinosaur.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • During the San Diego attack sequence, a group of people is running away from the Tyrannosaur while one person tries to enter a store to hide from the creature. He ends up getting eaten then dropped on the ground behind a car. You can tell his body is being crushed by the jaws of the T-Rex, this was by far the most frightening thing I've seen in a Jurassic movie in my childhood.
  • One of the most frightening things about this movie is the iconic Velociraptor ambush in the tall grass. This scene is extremely tense and many of the people in the group are killed. Most of them are offscreen but one is clearly shown when one raptor pounces on someone. This may fright many people.
  • A scene where a dog is eaten could disturb animal lovers.
