I recently saw this film on Youtube, and I was disappointed. It showed the weapons of the Marine Corps in 1961, but there was very little of the human element, and very little on strategy. It looks like a film shown in the first week of Basic at Parris Island or San Diego. I, frankly, do not understand why this film won an academy award. It looks so much like similar military films of the 1946-1963 period.
The main theme was that the Marines are ready to fight anytime, anywhere, against any enemy. We have known that since 1775. There is very little about how an individual becomes a Marine, and very little of broader strategy and tactics.
