Candida Royale is the reason to watch THE ANALYST, more cleverly titled BACKDOOR THERAPY by Something Weird for Vol. 79 of its Dragon Art Theatre series. It's a lousy film she got stuck in, a decade before she made her name directing 180-degrees different lesbian features.
Candida plays Anita Gartley, whose husband (poorly played by Paul Scharf, her co-star in EASY ALICE) keeps hitting on her for anal sex. Anita asks her best friend Pam (portrayed with butch haircut by the unattractive but well-built 1-shot Joceylne Martene) for advice, and gets a dildo up her rear end from the lesbian gal pal.
Anita goes to a shrink for help, and is greeted by a ridiculous Dr. Morley, horribly acted by Tyler Reynolds, sporting mutton chops-sideburns that look fake they're so exaggerated. Reynolds' careful, precise line readings recall Hugo Weaving's recitations as Agent Smith in THE MATRIX, and the film lapses into white-coater format from here on in.
Dr. Morley lectures her and shows her many grainy stag films of a trio (2 girls/one guy) demonstrating anal sex, and in faded, blood-red color giving the viewer an eyeful of pretty disgusting "gaping" closeups. As he did in an even worse SWV revival, MORE WAYS THAN ONE!, director Zachary Strong milks old, recycled footage to the max: waste not, want not.
Another 1-shot performer, Angela Tufts, portrays Morley's associate, Dr. Alberta Michaelson. As a Case Institute of Technology grad from Cleveland, I got the rib-tickling joke here -remember the Michelson/Morley experiment, conducted in 1887 at my alma mater?
Morley & Michelson introduce Anita to the wonders of anal sex, and hubby is the beneficiary, as she smoothly transitions from having Reynolds up her posterior to finally admitting Scharf to her hallowed halls. In bizarro pornworld, that constitutes a happy ending (oops, another pun).
Since Georgina Spelvin pretty much indoctrinated mainstream porn audiences to the Hershey Highway two years earlier in Damiano's classic DEVIL IN MISS JONES, this instructional film is just an anticlimax.
