Dying for Love ?
Nodriesrespect6 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Director Joe Sherman made a couple of pretty good porn comedies, EXPOSE ME NOW easily being the best, that weren't always in good taste. In THE BLONDE NEXT DOOR for example, he trotted out Danielle whose genital secretions proved a powerful aphrodisiac, a condition which promptly turns her into a nationwide celebrity ! That was still good if not necessarily clean fun when compared to the less than aptly titled MOMENTS OF LOVE, shot back to back with the rather dreary INSPIRATIONS, both with the aid of classic sexploitation producer Harry Novak (posing as "H. Hershey"), the latter responsible for legendary soft core lust epics such as THE GODSON, THE TOY BOX and THE PIGKEEPER'S DAUGHTER.

Try this on for size. Ravishing Nicole Noir (Mata Hari in Edwin Brown's IRRESISTIBLE) plays a writer who's told by physician Ron Jeremy, in a dry run for his part as "Doctor Proctor" in the CAUGHT FROM BEHIND series, that she only has one year to live, only this is due to a mix-up in patient files that occurred when Ron was having his way with nurse Lisa DeLeeuw, the curvaceous redhead – now sadly deceased – who spiced up many an early '80s f*ck flick. Any semblance of realism flies out of the window as Nicole, awaiting the results of her check-up, nods off in the waiting room and is conned into giving Mike Horner a vigorous hand job without ever waking up ! Mike's slow-mo eruption is quite a sight though. Understandably distraught, our heroine decides to write a book about sex in the suburbs (as you do, when time's running out !) and poses as a hooker to get the best angle on the subject. Much sex ensues and it pains me somewhat to admit that, stupid though this movie is story-wise, most of it actually is rather hot.

Nicole's first "street experience", for instance, finds her getting it on in the great outdoors with Texas oil tycoon Herschel Savage, so good as the anti-hero cop in Paul G. Vatelli's terrific BODIES IN HEAT, with newly weds Robin Everett (the blonde starlet with the perpetual pout from Larry Revene's PLEASURES OF INNOCENCE) and Jesse Adams (who played one of the sailors on shore leave in Bob Chinn and Jeff Fairbanks' wonderful FANTASYWORLD) butting in, a situation rife with tantalizing possibilities, most of them fully realized. Then there's the wood shop scene that starts of as an innocuous bit of girl/girl fondling between superstar Rhonda Jo Petty (LITTLE ORPHAN DUSTY herself) and cute little Jade Wong, most memorable in Billy Thornberg's PURELY PHYSICAL, but turns up the heat with the arrival of Blair Harris, Serena's Limo trick from Tom Janovich's SMALL TOWN GIRLS. A group grope finds Nicole, Danielle – who was in all of Sherman's movies – and frequently underestimated Mai Lin (who finally got a part to sink those pearly whites into in Ron Sullivan's BETWEEN LOVERS) strutting their considerable stuff for Paul Thomas and his buddies with equally scalding results. For the record, the credited "special appearance" by John Holmes is in this sequence as some video footage of the King is playing in the background ! There's one born every minute, right, and it looks like Novak was still up to some of his old carnival barker tricks from way back when he was competing with the likes of Dave Friedman. Nicole ultimately does learn the truth about her medical condition, after several silly but really rather funny misunderstandings when Doc Jeremy tries to reach her on the phone, prefers to keep her paying audience in the dark about the fact that she's not dying (seems like she took a page out of Novak's book) and performs a threesome with Ron and Lisa to assure their discretion. Though not much acting is called for, it must be said that the latter two once again stand out for their well-delivered comedy routine.
