The film was released on October 5, 1924, one day after the start of the World Series featuring the Washington Senators and the New York Giants. The Senators went on to win their first championship that month. The franchise left Washington in 1961 and became the Minnesota Twins.
Newsreel footage from the 1923 World Series between the New York Yankees and New York Giants was added to the final version of the film.
Baseball scenes were filmed at the Polo Grounds (home of the New York Giants), Washington Park in Los Angeles (home of the Los Angeles Angeles of the Pacific Coast League), and Oaks Park in Oakland (home of the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League).
In 1924 when the film was released, the real Chicago Cubs were managed by Bill Killefer and finished 5th in the National League. The youngest pitcher in the Cubs' rotation, 23-year-old Tony Kaufmann, won 16 games, more than any of his teammates.
