Racy for its time
view_and_review3 November 2021
I never realized as a kid that I was watching reruns. The game was too adult for me, but I liked two things:

1.) When the husbands got hit with the oversize cards

2.) When the host said "whoopy." I had no idea what whoopy meant but it sounded funny.

Looking back at the game through adult eyes, it was racy for its time. I can't say that I'm sad it's off the air.

Favorite Show of All Time!
ShelbyTMItchell7 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is my all-time favorite show. As it is the one, that put Chuck Barris and Bob Eubanks, the host, on the map. With four newlywed couples(Hence the title), are asked about themselves in questions that you would not normally answer. But not the case with Barris of course. As the women go off the stage first and then come back on, to guess what their husbands would say and vice versa, with the men secondingly. Then, if you get the right answer, it gives you five points during the first round. Ten pounds the second round. Leading to the 25-point bonus question at the end where the couple with the most points, win a prize and was that show's winner. BTW, it debut when Password fans were upset over the Vietnam War and a news conference by a White House official. That they flocked to the Newlywed Game on July 11th 1966. And the rest they say...is history!

Show that Saved ABC Daytime 1966

Warning: Spoilers
Fifty five years ago on July 11 1966 when the viewers that were game show fans watching NBC "Password" got it interrupted due to the press conference of Defense Secretary the late Robert McNamara there.

And the case of CBS as well. Saw handsome host Bob Eubanks with four innocent young couples all married recently up to two years or less trying to get to know each other.

Women went off as their husbands answer questions and then they return when the matching points to the right answer and then it is the men going off staff and women answering the questions.

As the last bonus question 25-points to add and the winner wins a prize either a home appliance or a trip. The show that saved ABC Daytime and the rest they say is history!
