Did you know
- TriviaMark Wahlberg joined the film after meeting with Tim Burton for only five minutes. He was so anxious to work with Burton that he agreed to play any part. Wahlberg dropped out of the role of Linus in Ocean's Eleven (2001) to do this film.
- GoofsHow did humans from far and wide hear about "this human who defies the apes"? Leo was hardly noticed by anyone but the group he was with, and a few apes. The apes wouldn't publicize that a human was making fools of them, so how did word of his presence spread??
- Crazy creditsThe background on the 20th Century Fox logo fades to a starfield, before the logo itself fades out and the camera pans to the planet below.
- Alternate versionsThe final kissing scene between Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Carter was edited out in the theatrical run when the movie was first released in India.

Rubbish with an awful ending
Burton has always been one of those directors whose films tend to fall apart in the third act... the exception being "Ed Wood" and "Sleepy Hollow", although "Sleepy Hollow" just about gets by on the "Scooby-doo" style of ending. If my memory serves me, I think Dick Zanuck, who at one time was running mighty 20th century fox, was sitting around and thought to himself, why don't we remake planet of the apes and get an A-list director for it? It's not a bad idea... problem is, the script isn't up to par. In fact, it's pretty bad. Secondly, Mark Walberg is way out of his league trying to carry the lead in this film. I remember reading all the publicity for the film and laughed when Burton and Zanuck tried to compare Walberg to Steve McQueen. Look, I like Walberg, I think he's a decent enough actor, but he's not at the point where he has the emotional gravitas to carry the lead in a film. The story has no emotional pathos. It's just a simple A to B to C, nonstop chase film. And what was the point of trying to keep the ending secret? It doesn't even make sense. They were trying to bring back that feeling of the "oh my god, they were on earth the whole time" feeling from the original POTA, but here it's just absolute rubbish.
