JJ's first hit
SnoopyStyle27 August 2013
Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) never had the courage to talk to high school crush Ben Covington (Scott Speedman). On a whim, shy Felicity follows Ben to college. Once there, Noel Crane (Scott Foley) quickly falls head over heels for her and a love triangle ensues.

Felicity has the distinction of being the first JJ Abrams' first hit. This started off great as a young hip emo college soap. In great TV lore, Keri Russell cut her hair before the 2nd season, and destroyed the series. Keri never stopped being great and the love triangle maintained its heat. The coming-of-age story is nicely told. It did last for four seasons, but that Samson allegory still held some truth.

This is the most frustrating show of all time
mistery_lady3 September 2010
This is the most frustrating show of all time. Everything goes backwards, all the characters are so dysfunctional, doomed to repeating the same mistakes, no one actually learns anything and it's like they're blind. I'm sorry to say this but the writers of this show are either the most sadistic creatures ever or they have major dysfunctional issues which they haven't work through. Of course I'm talking about Felicity's choices. I get that her parents set impossible standards for her and she has to punish herself, but, come on, you date the one that makes you miserable, but eventually you realize he's not good for you. And the most frustrating thing is that it's supposed to be this amazing evolution for all the characters, but they're just stuck in a loop judging each other. Someone should have told the creators of this show that it's torture to watch Ben and their relationship does not look like the greatest love they're all talking about. If this was it, then it'd be sad.

An Amazing First Season, But Horrible Consequent Seasons.
henryshear22 September 2018
Felicity was an amazing show in its first season. The show clearly sets up Team Noel and Team Ben. Felicity, a naive girl exposed to the big city for the first time, is trying to navigate her way through college and her crush on Ben. Keri Russell does her job brilliantly and she makes Felicity likable.

That being said, all of the characters including Felicity, all do atrocious acts. All of them are explored in the first season and it is done in a very realistic and amazing way. Scott Foley and Scott Speedman are amazing as Noel and Ben.

Now, I do not want to get into it, but I am SOOOOOOOO Team NOEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATED Ben Covington from the first moment he was on screen. I will let you make your own opinion or if you have already seen the show agree or disagree with me. Ben Covington never did anything horrible, but Noel is so much better and far kinder that you have to support him.

My reason for not watching subsequent seasons is related to Noel. I watched the first few of Season 2, but found that I could not because of events regarding the Season 1 finale.

I do not know if I suggest to watch the show in its entirety, but Season 1 is an absolute masterpiece and definitely deserves to be watched. Thanks for reading the review. Tell me if you agree or disagree with my opinion please.

Feliciting

I suppose that I could write you how much this show meant much to me 20 years ago when I had some hard times, or how much I was attracted by the background music, story, characters, NY from the late '90s, or why I find it to be a true peace of art - all for season 1, and 1/2 of season 2, after which the script began to lose value abruptly. Yet instead I will just say that re-watching this show, in 2020 during a pandemic, gives me a unique opportunity to see how the youth was living, communicating, and perceiving reality before cell phones, wide access to the internet, and all another tech. gadgets that changed our life. It's kinda traveling through time. In the same sense feels strange to read here comments dating from 1998/99...

An Amazing piece of Television
d0ctorni19 October 1998
"Felicity" is a show that doesn't come along very often. In this year's humdrum of boring freshman shows and networks trying to squeeze ratings out of old worn out sitcoms on their last legs, Felicity comes across as a refreshing journey. Felicity is somewhat of a lost soul, her father has planned out her future, pulling strings to get her into Stanford to pursue a medical career. But right after graduation, Felicity asks a guy she's been eyeing for the whole time she was in high school.... Ben Covington... to sign her yearbook. What he writes genuinely touches Felicity, so she decides to pursue Ben to NYU. Many of the plotlines of the series (at least so far) almost seem to be along the lines of something found in Melrose Place or 90210, but they are handled with a sense of care, and the series achieves poignant moments comparable only to moments spent watching movies. The whole show has a movie like quality to it, each scene looks planned, camera-work brings a little extra oomph to the scenes.... This is some of the best work I've seen on television. I can not recommend this show enough... it lives up to the buzz. Definitely among the top 5 shows on television.

Great series that goes off track in final few episodes
kenfran16 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
We watched the first series by accident, a repeat on TV, and really liked it. We got hooked and got hold of the three other series and really enjoyed the next two. Sure there were lots of questions, why did Megan change, why does Felicity keep going out with Ben, why does such a smart girl do such silly things at times (but don't we all), why did Javier not elope with Ben- But hey these movies are meant to provoke questions

For us the last half of the last series was the big let down. It almost felt as though the directors and writers were running of ideas so they did a Dr Who/Buffy stunt and took Felicity back in time. It was a tedious few episodes. Then came the last episode, which was a very poor last episode, where it should have been the crown in the jewel. And why was dead Elena at the wedding party.

Despite this I would recommend it as a worthy watch.

Simply Wonderful!
shelvis-227 December 2002
When this show ended, I felt as though my best friend had moved away. From the very first episode "Felicity" grabbed my attention and never let it go. Excellent scripts, wonderful acting & possibly the best lighting on television. I just bought the 6 disc DVD set of the entire first season, and now I can't wait for the other 3 seasons to be released.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of Felicity. You did a great job!

Started off right, ended wrong
mcfly-3112 July 2002
Warning: Spoilers
The freshman season of this college show (pun intended, hehe) was razor sharp before segueing into some decent middle years before falling off the shelf and petering to it's finish. It all begins when 18-year-old Felicity (the beautiful Russell) decides to follow her high school crush to college in New York. The show picked up a lot of flack, as the press labeled Felicity a "stalker", which I felt was ridiculous. She wasn't obsessed with this guy, wasn't peering in his windows, etc. Anywho, while trying to pursue him, she finds herself attracted to the R.A. (resident advisor) who helms the dorms. A wonderful pulling match begins as she tries to decide with whom her emotions lie. This goes on the entire year in some terrificly written episodes that keep you tuning in. The second season premiere was one of the more highly anticipated ones in tv that year, revealing Felicity's choice of guy. Unfortunately, after it's reached there's a sense of "where do we go now with the story" which started to drag the show down. Not to mention the much talked about hacking off of Russell's hair which proved disaterous. The second year managed some good drama, as they drifted from the Felicity/Ben/Noel deal and focused on some of the other characters. The finale was a tremendous letdown from the first year as they have she and Ben watching a movie on a roof to end things. Blah. Plus a big smack to the head of the WB for their frustratingly idiotic scheduling of the show, airing it 12 weeks in a row then yanking it for four months before bringing it back! The ad naseum stage was reached for the final two years as Felicity went back and forth between the two guys until it got annoying. I stayed because of the terrific actors who I came to really like. Russell was a perfect choice for the title character, a gorgeous and sweet girl next door, even if she did lack the body for it. Speedman, a strong, young actor, delivered nicely with his even-natured Ben, though prone to his outbursts. Foley had a nice-guy goofiness about him, sometimes busting me up with a facial reaction or oddball line of dialogue. You had Johnson who hung around only for a couple years as Julie, who I guess I was indifferent about. Nothing ever really stood out about her. Supporting people were the annoying Foreman as Megan, a goth-bitch who you wanted to sock most of the time. Grunberg generated some laughs as the hapless Sean, whose collection of ideas to make money always seemed to bomb out. Easy laughs came from Gomez as Javier, a gay Latino who ran the coffee house where Russell and Speedman worked. There were an assortment of others as well, too many to get into. But Elena was ok, Richard a geeky dumbass, and Fazon the by the book virgin. Everything was wrapped up after four seasons with a truly unique, if misguided attempt at originality, storyline involving Felicity going back in time to see "what if?". It turns out to be yet another plot letdown as she sees everything would've worked out the same anyway. They dig up Sarah McClachlan's "I Will Remember You" as we watch the cast smile in slow motion one last time. So, though not an amazing show, the characters will remain some of my favorites for years to come.

First chick flick series, ruined by the main couple.
m-4782623 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The direction the show took after a while was wrong, like the network wanted this atypical teen drama to fit the mold. Ben and Felicity was the goal all along, only it actually wasn't. But writers were so fixated on that idea, they forced the issue ad nauseam, which made us regret the heroine followed her heart, when so many other opportunities were offered to her. It's the first time rewatching the series, that I was convinced she should've stayed single. For a while at least, which she apparently planned on doing, before that « fever dream ». And the confusing part before waking up. Personally, I think the cast had a lot to do with the appeal of that show, like a group of friends who've decided to write, star and direct their own first real television series. I loved the humor too. Season 1 is the show at its best, it's the most wholesome season of the whole series, with themes you're going to find throughout the run. And more believable storylines too. Season 2 had the best drama, if you like that depressing tone. As well as one of my favorite episodes and cast. Season 3 though, is the worst. They revamped the show and turned it into a soap opera, which didn't work, and had very irritating characters too. Old AND new. Turning Javier into a regular attending school as well, was a big mistake. The spark was completely gone once he became too involved in the hero's lives. Season 4 is weird, it's as if the show didn't know what it was about anymore, or where it's wants to go, with those last minute added episodes, in which Elena attends Noel's wedding, after dying before the « time travel ». It has some interesting episodes, like The declaration, Fire, Paper chase or The Graduate, but the tone was off and it got too preachy (Elena's « confession » felt forced and too at odds, and shocking even when we think of how easily she was included into the group). Even the additional part, creators had to write in a hurry, isn't so bad once you can overlook the inconsistencies... It's no surprise this show didn't last long, mainly because of poor writing and inability to go outside of its comfort zone, or not following orders?... But it still remains one of WB's classics of that time, alongside Dawson's Creek and Roswell.

P.s: I'm not ok with the way the soundtrack was handled. It's different everywhere! The broadcasted version, the DVD sets, and now the syndicated version. Couldn't they do a better job securing the music supervisor's work?

I feel like I got stringed along, like Noel did.
skyleredwards-7451428 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was hoping this show would give me like Dawson Creek vibes only more of a college focused version, but no. The first season I would say was good and then it just kept going down hill. It kept the same storylines literally every time really, I can't even count how many cheating scandals happened in this for someone to be like "I can't forgive you" only to get back together within a couple episodes and then have it happen yet again. The only thing that kept me watching this was the hope that Noel would get a real chance with Felicity, without her pining over Ben, but that never happened, the writers were non stop putting the vibes out there that that was going to happen and never followed through with it. But to be fair, Ben was trash and so was Felicity, who had next to no character development (except for the fact she became less of a stalker, I suppose) And lastly, the last five episodes were completely annoying and did not make sense, I thought the whole 'magic' stuff would be one episode, but they dragged it on, just for her to stay with her cheating toxic boyfriend in the end.

If you like giving guys a billion chances to become a better boyfriend and they still end up treating you like crap, I'm gonna assume you'd like this show, so go ahead and watch it.

Series that grows on you even if you hate the main characters
Zedyeti14 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Never watched this when it was on but decided to watch it on Hulu. It took a bit but ended up enjoying it even though a lot of it is annoying at times. I attended college at NYU around the time this series takes place and it's funny what is incredibly wrong and what is scary accurate compared to my experience anyways here's the problem... Felicity sucks. You learn this early on but get over it knowing she's just gonna suck and never change. Noel is the loser friendzone who has many faults himself that are extremely annoying and pathetic. Although it would make more sense for him to end up with felicity... but no they go with the worst character imaginable... Ben. He sucks always has yet everyone likes him. Why? He is whiny, always mad, and whispers when he does talk with no personality. He seems like the type that would probably start beating up felicity in the near future. The side characters are the best part and keep your interest. Except Julie she was just a female Ben.

Show is worth a watch if you're into stupid drama stuff for younger adults. Don't expect the best show ever but it's a good time waster.

What utter garbage is this?!
Heathonistt21 February 2022
I was a teen during the original airing of Felicity and saw the show so many times, I could recite many parts by heart. It was never exactly my "thing" but I remember being so thirsty for any sort of entertainment acknowledging girls my age, I eagerly gobbled up this trash.

I rewatched this show now that I'm in my late 30s. I'm in utter disbelief that something this bad could have ever been made. I could spend all day listing the many small problems with the show - such as 30+yr olds playing 18yr old "normal" college kids who never drink or have sex, the truly god-awful music, the fact that every woman in the show except for Felicity (and Megan in season 4, maybe) is written to be a villain, the fact that senior year featured very little-to-no talk about college, graduation, jobs, internships, etc at all, let alone college-related storylines. Julie, the character who exists solely to try and date anyone who dated Felicity, then yell at Felicity for dating her boyfriends who were Felicity's first... Elaina's lack of storylines in season 4, or just the awful way they treated her throughout the show. The terrible casting, acting, and writing in every repeating storyline about Felicity's parents who are about as mature and intelligent as 14 year old kids. The only time these writers attempted to write an actual surprise in the show, they had Keri Russel cut all her hair off (about 6 inches too short), which turned out so bad that fans stopped watching the show and the ratings plummeted. But I could almost let all that go...

The biggest problem/problems center around the terrible Ben storyline, which suffocates the show. Sure, I get Felicity having a big crush that set her on this journey, but Ben is a POS. He and Felicity have nothing in common. They have no chemistry, aside from a "confusing sadness" they pass back and forth to each other for 4 seasons. He cheats on her constantly, or straight up dumps her for selfish reasons/other girls more times than I can count. Nameless girl in the pilot, Julie, the OTHER pink ranger, dumps her at the beginning of season 2, avery, THEN gets his father's mentally-ill-middle-aged-AA spons-ee pregnant and makes felicty forget about senior year and any plans she might have in order to support him, THEN he cheats AGAIN by having a month long affair?!? He sure does cheat a lot in the 4 seasons of this show. And each time we are expected to just forgive and forget.

And Felicity... well, she doesn't matter. The entire premis/moral of the show is, "Girls, it doesn't matter what your dreams or relationship fantasies are. Friendships don't matter. Education doesn't matter. If you think they do, you're delusional. Your only purpose is to clean up the messes created by the idiot men in your life. The guy you love? He doesn't care about you, and he will make sure to let you know every chance he can. But he'll say "I'm sorry I love you" and you WILL instantly forgive him because THAT's what love is! Also, don't try to choose your own career path, because ultimately you're going to move back home with your parents and do exactly what those miserable controlling people want."

The end.

I hope I saved some of you from wasting your time.

I'd give zero stars if I could, but I gave 1 star for Megan. She's the only good character in the show, and she's highly under-utilized. Also 1 star for JJAbrams attempting to bring some sort of interesting sci-fi twilight zone/time travel elements to the show, too bad they Wizard of Oz/"it was all a dream"-ed it at the end.

Felicity should have been with Noel, for real, starting around the beginning of season 3. Then the show would have been a story of choosing your own adventure and unexpected life changes, making your own decisions and learning whats right and good for you vs what's wrong, instead of a "shy bro's" guide on how to politely and quietly gaslight women into giving up everything they want and dream about in order to stay in a *seriously* emotionally abusive relationship with you, until they end up isolated on the opposite end of the country from their only friends, forced to raise the baby you made with another woman, while you're out having one of your twice-yearly affairs.

I hate Ben.

Chronicles of a college student and her relationships with her classmates/friends
BOB-41719 June 1999
"Felicity" is a fabulous show that everyone can relate too. It's not over-dramatic like many other shows. There is at least one character on the show that everyone can recognize within themselves. This show is for everyone, not just youths. The actors are superb. Keri Russell rightfully deserved her Golden Globe Award for her role. You must watch this show!

Felicity was here in 2020
vanessalucas-6332717 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I finally took the opportunity to watch the entire series from start to finish. I remember I started watching the show on TV back in 1998 when it came out. The first episode captured my attention, and back then I must have watched the first two seasons, but I never got around to watching the rest until now.

It was wonderful to revisit what made Felicity so special: the main characters Felicity, Noel, and Ben; the support characters Sean, Elena, Meghan, Javier, Richard, and many others; the different relationships; and most importantly, the chemistry between the characters. The way it was filmed made it heart-warming, happy, sad, funny, and at times heart-wrenching.

The reason I gave it a 9 is because even though they were asked to film five more episodes for season 4, those episodes were ultimately unnecessary. They just seemed extraneous and awkward, and as others have also stated, inconsistent.

I didn't understand why Elena and Tracy had to suddenly reappear at Noel and Zoey's wedding, given that Elena supposedly died at the beginning of episode 18, and Tracy had gone away and hadn't even kept in touch with anyone.

In my mind, the series was wrapped up more perfectly with episode 17 than episode 22. Otherwise this will still always be one of my favourite shows of all time.

Such a lovely series bit it has so many problems
fridaymoonwalker5 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'm kind of late reviewing this series, but I just watched the series from start to end, which I haven't done before. And as much as I loved it for it's great actors and the forever love thing, there is so many questions that just can't leave my mind, and the end was so horrible!

As many others I just wonder why they cut out that part in the last episode about Felicity telling Elena to go to Duke University so she don't get killed. That is such an important scene. During the whole last episode I just waited for it to happened, but it doesn't and then they just show Elena alive in the last scene. This is such a big logical gap, that was really stupid of them to leave it out. Elena was such an important friend and it feels så ignorant to leave her out. There was really spaces they could have cut out in that last episode instead of that...because that last scene with Corsicov (?) with Felicity telling her story and the flashbacks is so long and slow!

In the time travel Julie comes to New York to do an audition...but before the time travel she does not visit them during that audition. And why is she missing in the last scene at Noels wedding if everyone is supposed to be there?

Other stuff I've been thinking about is Megans mystical box who is spoken about a lot in the first season. Even Megans parents tells Felicity that they have looked inside it and are concerned about Megan. And after that horrible 'Twilight Zone' episode that box never appears again. So there is just dolls inside looking like them? What was that about? Why was Megans parents even concerned about dolls, and what did Megan do with these dolls?

And somewhere in the middle of the seasons Ben and Felicity needs to do community service for breaking into the pool and Ben talks about being an after school basketball coach for kids. That felt like such a great step for Ben, showing how good he is with kids, and for a moment there I thought he would start study to be a teacher instead....but nothing more happens with that and we never sees him as a basketball coach.

In season 4 Megan decides to change her clothing style from Goth to Jackie Kennedy....but after only a few episodes looking like Jackie she starts wear normal boring clothes. That is so lame.

And the whole time travel thing was so stupid. Why couldn't Felicity forgive Ben for being with Claire in the first place? He forgive her for sleeping with Noel. And if Felicity could change the future of Elena, why did nothing else change? Megan and Sean would not have been married when she traveled back to the future, Ben would not have a baby and Noel would still be dead if Felicity traveled back that moment she did - her whole world would have changed. Instead she wakes up just as she left it. And She would not be studying a fifth collage year because she change her course back to medicine in the time travel.

The whole thing about Felicity changing from art to medicine again was such a downer. It makes me feel like all people who is thinking about a future in art would give up there dreams for something more 'realistic'. What changed her mind?

But after all, there is a lovely love story. And I really liked it anyway!

Loved it when it came out and love it now
missbella-0496023 February 2023
Do you to the great world that we live in, I was able to stream this many times. I think I've watched it four times all over again. 1998 the early years when things were a lot easier. I just enjoy the show so much. It's not cheesy because there are plenty of times. Felicity is up to no good. I love all the characters they are hysterical.

Keep in mind the time frame is clearly different from nowadays.

These reviews need to be way too long!

Felicity is a doll. I love Ben and Noel.

Javier is the best.

I think you should watch it. You'll enjoy it. Imagine having no technology like we do now..

...Picks Up Where "MSCL" Leaves Off??? And that WTF Finale.
dbella-525569 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok I have a theory.

I'm probably wrong but hear me out.

I believe "Felicity" and "My So-Called Life" are in the same universe-sort of.

We regretfully only received one season of "MSCL" right? So we never got to see where things led for "Angela" & "Jordan".

Fast forward a few years to the age of "Felicity", who is sort of a coming of age protagonist in her own right- kind of a more mature, yet still very awkward and reserved school girl a la "Angela Chase".

"Ben" is the seemingly unattainable love interest for "Felicity" just like "Jordan" was for "Angela". Both couples wind up together in the end...that we know of.

I'm not saying they're all the same characters reincarnated, but there are quite a few similarities between both shows that I have to wonder if the writers/producers of "Felicity" weren't giving the college hit some residual "MSCL" undertones to satisfy the latter's audience craving for a 2nd season that was never to be. If you've ever watched both shows (which I highly recommend), have you noticed their scores are EXTREMELY identical? Close your eyes during any episode of "Felicity" and you'd swear you were watching "MSCL". :Plus there are very distinct inner monologues "Felicity" narrates that are completely ripped from the script of "Angela Chase"; there's no way there isn't some type of connection. Both shows choose to focus heavily on altering hairstyles for both "Angela" and "Felicity". "Rayanne" and "Meghan" are practically one and the same. There is a central same-sex oriented main character friend to the protagonist in each with "Ricky" and "Javier", respectively. Not to mention Devon Gummersall appears in both shows as a sexually inexperienced brainiac? COME ON! There's definitely a correlation between the two shows! LOL

As far as my rating...hey, this is one of my favorite shows. In fact I'm binging it on Prime right now. The only reason it doesn't get a higher score is because the constant going back and forth between "Ben" & "Noel" towards the end was extremely frustrating. And then "Ben" CHEATS on "Felicity" after ALL they've been through?

But that's not even the worst part. For me, the show ends w/ S4 E17.

I refuse to acknowledge S4 E18-22 because the poor quality writing ruined the entire flipping show! The time travel plot MADE NO SENSE! The writers need to admit they messed up BIG TIME.

"Elena's" death is a HUGE plot hole. She died in a car accident LONG before "Felicity" fell into her fever spell that made her dream she had traveled back in time. So how in the world is "Elena" alive and thriving at "Noel's" wedding if she died BEFORE "Felicity" fell ill?

Supposedly there were a couple scenes that were cut-where during her dream, "Felicity" warns "Elena" to attend Duke instead of Columbia to avoid the impending fatal car crash. That deleted scene supposedly explains how "Elena" died before "Felicity's" dream, and is alive after she wakes up. But if that's the case, then it also proves something else..."Felicity" wasn't dreaming after all. The time travel had to have been real if "Felicity" was able to change "Elena's" fate.

And for that matter...since the time travel had to have been real to explain away "Elena's" story arc, then how is "Noel" alive too? He died in the art studio fire during "Felicity's" dream so... ANOTHER PLOT HOLE. MAKES NO SENSE.

Just dumb. Really dumb, a total departure from the true nature of the show, and that's why, for me, the show ends w/ "Ben" & "Felicity" walking away together in Palo Alto.

Now this is what television should be
tasnee2 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
When Felicity first aired in 1998, I was only 13 years old and lived in a little town in nowhere, Alaska that didn't have TV. So I missed out on the episodes when they were first aired.

It wasn't until my own Senior year of high school that I didn't have many classes to take and a lot of time on my hands before going off to college that I surfed through the channels once after we finally got satellite, to land on this show as reruns on the WE network.

One single episode was all it took for me to fall absolutely head-over-feet in love with this show. So many of my classmates would talk about other shows like Dawson's Creek and My So Called Life. They examined high school however, and since high school wasn't something I could relate to nor did I want to - I decided to catch a glimpse of the college experience through the eyes of artists.

I don't use the term "artists" lightly. This show not only captured pretty realistic viewpoints of what college life is actually like, but it dealt with serious issues in a way that was not over-dramatic and really heartfelt.

So many people like to point out that teens are always the ones with the complex lives and all the nostalgia to look back on. This show proves that its actually the people just starting the rest of their lives after high school that can really reach a place within themselves and discover who they are through "the smallest decisions".

And Felicity, not only as a character, but as a show, really takes the audience on that same journey of self-enlightenment.

College memories never fade
jcpixiemedia28 December 2019
I find Felicity's craze over Ben is similar......I have a similar story except that was way after college.Instead I followed where he worked, and there is a Noel in the story as well. After two decades the story still repeats in reality, so I must say the script writer is genius.

I very much enjoyed how the story portraits the friendships even though there really were some heartbreaking moments and if I were one of them I would absolutely not forgiving . "College thing" version of love like Felicity mentioned is anyhow a bit repetitive, and I don't appreciate much the Halloween episode. It's cheesy and boring. But all in all, despite the fact that Ben is an incredible turd( that you could always find a Ben for real. I imagine how will the story going later, I hope Felicity would get mature enough that Ben will never change cuz he has ADD!) I find this story doesn't fade out as time goes by.

Tried so, so hard...

...to like this series, but could barely get past the second season. The first season had me engaged, but how disappointing to find out that, instead of becoming a more fully developed person, Felicity becomes even more egocentric and selfish under a thin veil of being nice to everyone. She has the emotional IQ of an infant and inexplicably chases a young man well on his way to filling the shoes of a domestic abuser and whose only two reactions beyond violence are either to grin at inappropriate times or to look down at his shoes. Found myself focused on what a dreadful life with Ben would be.

Makes my heart hurt.
lameinvestor10 December 2015
I was forced to watch a few episodes of this with my old girlfriend like 15 years ago. For some reason I saw the series available online and watched the first episode from the beginning of the 4th Season... I had to watch it all and go on the roller coaster. My heart was taken back on several occasions on how I really miss Manhattan and the life experience. Coincidentally I lived in New York City when this was airing and so much if it reminds me of my time I spent in New York in my 20's. So much reminds me of what it was like to live in NY, the friends you make, the City, the expectations, love life, living and just struggling for success. The casting and acting is amazing. To me its stood the test of time. The subject matter is still relevant today. The City has changed a little but not that much that if you went back to Bleecker Subway stop or Dean and Delucca's... it's still the same, the experience is still similar. I recall so may friends carrying their luggage on the street, just as Felicity does at theme song start. The cast brings is all together. There isn't one string that I wasn't interested in. There isn't a weak link in the thread. The writing and directing holds back on making Felicity or other characters emotional to their credit. Just when you think she should lose it or others should lose it they have a talent for developing the drama without the tears or shouting... the dialogue is brilliant. And the music is amazing. This is now my all time favorite TV Drama ever.

Stunted, Annoying Series
angeladavis-3801119 February 2023
Good grief! Four seasons of Felicity staring into space as if she's having a petit mal seizure and Ben looking like a 12 year old boy trying not to laugh. When he isn't grinning like the village idiot, all we see is the top of his head or we see him repeatedly withdraw and refuse to engage with Felicity. Still she worships him and just keeps taking his mistreatment. I cannot understand all the gushing good reviews for this series. Noel, Javier, Julie's biological mom and the psychologist are the only interesting characters. For the most part, these self-obsessed college student characters are not likable and sorely neglected as the series drones on. How can they possibly cultivate supposedly deep friendships when, if anything, they've regressed back to high school after three years of college. Exhausting and so very irritating to watch. Glad my kids never got into this series. Undesirable examples of friends and lovers who manage to become less mature and self aware as time goes on.

Version on Hulu NOT the same.
evendaemonski22 March 2021
This show was important for me when it came out. Not necessarily because of the show itself, but more because what was going on in my life that I needed distraction from. So, as I've been rewatching it to remember some things, I'm very disappointed that the versions on Hulu have completely different music. While sometimes music can take away from the show, in other cases it can really add to the content and this was one of those shows for me. I saved playlists in high school of many of the songs and discovered some artists that I really came to like. I don't know why the change, if it has to do with rights and privileges but it's a huge disappointment. I Know there have been other shows from that time where these changes weren't made. So I recommend finding the original versions. Not to have your expectations too high and remember when it was made. Hulu, please stream the original. Not the ABC re-runs.
