Love in the army
Petey-1010 May 2012
This movie tells about the relationship between Irmeli Autere and composer corporal Olavi Torkko. There are certain people in the military that are against the relationship.Kasarmin Tytär (1954) is Aarne Laine's debut movie as a director. The writer is Toivo Kauppinen. It's a very nice military farce with great actors. It's a delight to watch Elina Pohjanpää's work as Irmeli. She's so energetic and has a certain amount of sensibility.Heikki Heino is terrific as her love interest Olavi.Rauha Rentola is brilliant as Vilina Vitikainen, with the wig and everything.Kaarlo Halttunen is superb as her love interest Vilho Tuppurainen.Elsa Turakainen is very good as Mrs. Wiik.Tauno Palo is great as Majuri.Reino Valkama does great work as Vääpeli. Also great work by Matti Ranin (Tykkimies Rantanen) and Pentti Siimes (Tykkimies). The movie is overlooked by the critics, but I enjoyed watching it.The funniest moments must be with the Savonian artilleryman Tuppurainen and Vilina.Like the time he goes AWOL to see her dressed as a woman.Great fun for those who like old military farces.
