Once upon a generation long long ago...
Due to corroded acetate film, it is believed no complete version of this old Australian silent exists. Some twenty years ago I recall seeing stills and glimpses of moving film during a television documentary (related to early Australian film history) from WITHIN THE LAW (not be confused with an American film with this title, made the same year, but released in 1917) which had been painstakingly restored for probably less than thirty seconds of its original 29 minute running length.
The detailed plotline was not revealed, I am not even aware that it is fully documented. Monte Luke's film however, which he also co-stars in with Muriel Starr, was essentially a love story set against a background of crime and blackmail. It is believed to have been very popular at the time of its release in Sydney and Melbourne. The fragments I saw indicated that Miss Starr was a pretty smart looker way back then.
