Mikko Niskanen and the youth of the 80's
Petey-104 February 2009
Three young men are arriving home from the army. It's hard for them to find a place in this world. The small countryside village doesn't offer them work or nothing, so the only option is to go to the world.Juuso takes a job on a Norwegian oil drilling platform.Late disobeys his father's wish, who has a new wife, to start working on his family's chicken farm and goes looking for work from Gothenburg, Sweden. There he runs into more problems, he has no place there, so he is deported back to Finland.Pyry wants to work on his father's farm and even goes studying at an agricultural school but the family quarrels over the estate make him quit his studies.Together with Late he takes a job in a steel mill in southern Finland.Pyry also finds a girl from a library bus.Mikko Niskanen, who had previously portrayed the youth of the 60's, shows here how the youth behaved in the 80's.He wrote the movie alongside with Matti Ijäs.Niskanen won the last Jussi award of his career from this one.The main performers are all great.Timo Torikka plays Juuso Tammilehto, who's sort of a young rebel.Heikki Paavilainen is Pyry Kinnunen, who's more quiet type.Tero Niva, who was an amateur actor and passed away six years ago, plays the tragic character Lauri Koivisto.Sanna Majanlahti plays the cute librarian Taina. There is a lot of good in this movie. The moments in the library bus are great where Pyry claims to be a big reader. It doesn't look dated.Only that the world has changed a lot since the 80's.
