Some Women Are Hard To Please
ccthemovieman-110 May 2007
"All the neighbors have fur coats but me," complains some wife to her husband. The man says he's broke but the woman threatens him with "Don't show your nose here again without a fur coat for me." Wow, women are brutal.

The husband thinks the only way he can get a fur coat is to shoot an animal, so he goes outside to begin practice shooting. The first bullet curves away from his target and bounces on the ground where his pet dog dribbles it like a basketball. (You have to love the wild world of cartoons!)

Felix wanders by and asks if he could try some target practice. The guy shrugs and gives Felix the gun. Our cat then shows off his talents, hitting the bullseye on every shot, even with the gun firing from his tail! The man is impressed, tells Felix his plight and Felix offers to help him out, shooting ten rabbits, if that's what it takes to make the fur coat.

The cocky Felix finds it not so easy and the man winds up running from a different kind of fur he doesn't want any part of!

Nothing super, but a decent Felix entry in this "Felix The Cat: The Ottos Messmer Classics" DVD.

That's one tough woman!!

When you watch an old cartoon like Felix the Cat from the silent era, I urge you to look at it in context. Color and sound and even higher quality animation were things to come, so the simple drawings of the early to mid-1920s were pretty much the norm. So don't be too hard on these films. Plus, the ARE funny.

"Felix Goes A-Hunting" begins with a henpecked husband being bawled out by his wife. She insists he MUST get her a fur coat or not bother coming back home. The man cannot afford it and decides he must make his own. But he's a lousy shot. Felix sees his predicament and tells him he will help. Unfortunately, while he does get the man a fur, it is still attached to a very angry bear! How does it all end? See the film.

While this is mostly a one joke cartoon, it is a very good joke. Short and clever--it's worth a look.
