Sitting in an office in the David Geffen Hall — home to the New York Philharmonic — venerated bassist, composer and founder of the Very Young Composers program, Jon Deak, is discussing his recent excursion to Wyoming to observe the full splendor of the solar eclipse. He mentions that while standing in a field to watch the celestial event, his attention was momentarily shifted to a sprig of wheat, which led him to ponder the harmony and interconnectedness between the elements of nature. As the expanse suddenly got dark, with mixed shades of purple being cast across the sky, Deak says he...

The Headless Horseman is riding into New Orleans!
Well, not really.
But Neil Jackson, who played him on Fox's Sleepy Hollow, will be joining The Originals Season 4 as a vampire named Alistair. He'll air on a recurring basis.
Since the season is a way off, not much is known about Alistair.
What we do know is he'll interact with another vamp we know and love, Klaus. Good enough for us!
There was a lot of other news to come out of San Diego Comic Con this weekend, as well.
The Originals will finally be joining up to (and surpassing) The Vampire Diaries in the timeline.
When the series returns, it will come with a five year time jump into the future.
At that time, we'll see Hayley and her grown daughter, Hope, fighting to save and unite the family.
We also know what she needs in order to do that.

TV is usually the first portal for horror when you’re a kid. At least it was for me; pre internet horror was found either: a) at the movies, b) in comic books, or c) the idiot box. And before we were allowed to see big screen horror, TV scratched that itch. Saturday mornings had Scooby Doo, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, and various other shows, animated or not, to quench our growing curiosity for the weird, creepy, and unusual. But if we were lucky enough to be able to watch after 9 pm, things got much more interesting.
Terrifying stories of miniature monsters, witchcraft, Satanism, and creepy cults awaited our bloodshot eyes. TV was absolutely inundated with horror, channels dripping with malicious behavior in the form of weekly shows or made for TV movies. Of course, the networks (the big – and only – three: ABC, NBC, and CBS) back then had...

I've seen it all. New York City is soon to be home to Beetle House, a Tim Burton-themed bar. Slashfilm says the establishment, which comes from the same guys who created a Will Ferrell-themed bar last year, will embody the feel of Burton's films...but probably not Batman. The whole idea — even for the most average of Burton fans like myself — sounds pretty cool. The drink list gives you a feel of the place. It all sounds good...but man, look at those NYC drink prices!

Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Sleepy Hollow’s Season 3 finale.
For the second time in two weeks, Sleepy Hollow has killed off one of its central characters. And just like Joe Corbin’s tragic demise, showrunner Clifton Campbell tells TVLine in an exclusive post mortem, the death is going to stick.
If you didn’t see the episode, here’s a brief, devastating recap: Abbie stepped into Pandora’s box, ending her own life in order to save the world from The Hidden One’s tyranny. Jenny killed the weakened god, which angered Pandora, who then decided she...

Last week’s episode of Sleepy Hollow began with Abbie Mills extolling the virtues of baseball for Ichabod Crane. Of course, Sleepy Hollow being Sleepy Hollow, where subtext is as conspicuous as a catcher flashing signs, Abbie wasn’t only talking about the American Pastime. She was talking about America, too. Or America as it should be. “For me, baseball is about three things,” she told the 18th-century Rip Van Winkle, recently awakened from a 232-year-long dirt nap. “First, tradition. Rules never change. You can always count on the grass to be green, the lines to be white. No matter how crazy the world gets,...

Fox’s Sleepy Hollow premiered Monday (9/8c) — did the new series awaken your interest?
Loosely based on Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” the new drama follows Ichabod Crane, a British soldier fighting for George Washington’s colonial forces in the Revolutionary War.
The action opens with Crane (played by Tom Mison, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) engaged in close combat with a large, sinister-looking, masked man with a unique brand on the back of his hand. Crane beheads the behemoth but is mortally wounded himself in the process. He loses consciousness in an army hospital…...

Another season, another conspiracy to end the world. That’s not the fatigue of so much Apocalypse Pop talking: In the grim noir world of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow — which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox — U.S. history is reimagined as the product of a never-ending, always stalemating supernatural shadow war, pitting truth-keeping, true believing patriots against black magic terrors bent on annihilating us from creation. At least, that’s what the “good guys” say. The bad guys have yet to speak…maybe because they’re lacking for heads. Say hello to what could be the season’s...

Chicago – And so it begins. The first new show of the 2013-14 broadcast network season premieres tonight, September 16, 2013, as Fox unleashes yet another update of a classic legend in “Sleepy Hollow.”
Does this hip variation on “Once Upon a Time” connect with both audiences who know the source material (and, no, it’s not the Tim Burton movie…even if the tone here is closer to the Johnny Depp vehicle than the Washington Irving short story) and those who have never heard of it? Sadly, neither.
Television Rating: 2.5/5.0
Those who know the potential of an update of the original will be disappointed and even those who know not of the headless horseman will find this clunky and strange. It’s a show that moves in fits and starts, lurching like a beheaded beast when it should flow smoothly. It’s all concept, no character, and it’s not slick or...

Ichabod Crane may not know it, but he owes a debt of gratitude to one Ms. Carrie Mathison.
That’s because Showtime’s Homeland so inspired the creators of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (which debuts Monday at 9/8c), they decided to go headless or go home.
“The thing that I loved about Homeland so much… is that every episode could’ve been the finale. Every single episode,” said Alex Kurtzman, who — with fellow Fringe alum Roberto Orci — is behind the new supernatural series.

With two TV shows brewing their own version of the classic Washington Irving tale, Sleepy Holly, it's going to be interesting to see which falls flat and which gallops away like The Headless Horseman on his ghostly steed.
Deadline reports that The CW’s "Sleepy Hollow" drama has landed at Warner Bros TV. The project was pitched to the network last month with no studio attached, and has now been laid off at one of the CW’s sibling studios, Warner Bros.
The CW was in talks for the pitch, a contemporary take on Washington Irving’s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, when another Sleepy Hollow drama project hit the marketplace, one co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci and directed by Len Wiseman. The development led to the CW pushing the pause button in the negotiations to reaccess the situation. The network eventually proceeded with buying the project,...

While other countries have headless riders roaming their empty places, I believe America can lay claim to The Headless Horseman. Born out of the mists of early America, the Horseman is a vengeful, anonymous Hessian who lost his head to a cannonball during the American Revolution. While it's popularly assumed he rides around looking for his head (and claiming any he comes across along the way), he actually has it resting on the pommel of his saddle. He doesn't need a new head. He's just sadistic.
As a kid, I firmly believed the Hessian was a real Sleepy Hollow legend, and finding out that he was just an invention by Washington Irving was a bitter disappointment. But now I find it impressive that a mere short story has worked itself so deeply into American folklore to become one of our most iconic horror characters. He's enigmatic and elegant in his hunting,...
