Interesting documentary about an incredibly dysfunctional Southern family. As one reviewer remarked, they make the Crumbs (Robert Crumb's family) look normal. Mental illness, alcoholism, domestic violence, incest, it's got 'em all. Despite all these problems they retain some semblance of family. The daughter wants badly to love her mother despite the abuse and her mother's extreme mental illness. In fact, amazing, she seems to have retained a sense of humor about the whole thing. The mother, battling psychosis, seems to love her daughter but is on another planet. The father is a half-step away from catatonic. A sad, but very worthwhile film.
