This Paramount Noveltoon short that I found on YouTube as linked from Cartoon Brew is notable as the last time the "bouncing ball" was used in a theatrical cartoon that had first been in use when Max Fleischer started his Screen Song shorts in 1924. The director was Max's son-in-law Seymour Kneitel who had stayed at Famous Studios after Paramount changed the name from the original Fleischer Studios and ousted Max and brother Dave. Anyway, this short has a hobo stowing on a train and getting off at the Utopia station. He then tries to steal a pie in a window while avoiding a bulldog. Then with no "follow the bouncing ball" intro, we see the lyrics to "Big Rock Candy Mountain" (which are different from what I remember as a child listening to it on a Tiger Tail Records LP which had "The Sorcerers Apprentence" on the other side) with that ball before concluding with the hobo himself jumping on the last words. Nothing really funny happens here though it was nice to see this latter-day effort on what was once a regular animated series that played before the feature in various neighborhood cinemas back in the day...
