Who Killed Cock Robin? (1970)
** (out of 4)
Cock Robin's dead body is found in an alley so Lt. Clyde Bamum (Bert Lewison) is put on the case. His investigation leads him to a sleazy stripper, a college sex party, a bizarre pair of lesbians and finally to Cock's own mother. Of course, while investigating the man also looks to have his own sexual needs fulfilled. I really knew nothing about this movie until I came across in via Something Weird Video, which I'm sure is the place most people heard of it. I'm not sure if the title itself was take off on the Hal Roach comedy-mystery WHO KILLED DOC ROBBIN? but I found this sexploitation picture to really be a throwback to those mysteries of the 1940s. I say this because while the sex and nudity is certainly the selling point, it seems director Donald Jones was aware of these old mysteries and he really tried to make the story somewhat interesting. It's certainly not THE MALTESE FALCON but the entire mystery isn't just a throw away plot point for the nudity. As for the sex scenes, they really aren't too bad. The highlight is certainly the sequence with the lesbians as both women are quite attractive. All of the scenes are rather weirdly staged and while nothing crosses the line into hardcore, there's certainly nothing left to the imagination. The performances are pretty much what you'd expect from a film like this but the cast at least keeps you entertained. Running just 55-minutes the sex scenes certainly drag on but overall I found the film to be mildly entertaining.
