a simple and entertaining series
shahabkalim-14 June 2006
I saw the series when i was a small kid still i remember this series and love it because it was fantastic.Just loved every episode of it..It had such brilliant performances and Rajat Kapur as the Bengali detective was brilliant..

The cases were very different from the regular murder4money stuffs.. Byomkesh Bakshi came at a time when the satellite channels were not filling the satellite slots with dumb serials and that time Doordarshan had some decent shows on air and this one was the best of the lot .It was a low budget detective show but it had everything -mour,action,brain teasers and most importantly a script(which is missing in 90% of the shows these days)

Greatest ever detective series to hit Indian TV. THAT is it..

Simply the best

Simply the best show ever on Indian television.!!! What else can one say. It had everything from drama, action, thriller, comedy.I still watch its episodes on Computer. Some episodes are pretty awesome.Like the episodes Aadim shatru,Bemisaal,Adrishya trikoon. They still are good as they were in those days. Those were good old TV days Byomkesh, Hum paanch, Shaktiman, Fauji. Also not to forget Malgudi days. And the short stories of DD national. There was just one Detective serial else that i liked. It was Jassos Vijay. It also used to come on DD and was sponsored by BBC to spread AIDS awareness in rural India. Now a days they show all crap on TV.All the saas bahoo crap and all.

Only Detective show which shows all clues and let you solve the case
amitsinghal58 September 2014
Most under rated show in TV Industry. Byomkesh Bakshi is Indian Sherlock with no attitude and really decent man. I love watching him again and again. Best thing about this show is. If you are watching an episode for the first time, they show you all the clues. You can solve every case yourself. Rajit Kapoor is hands down awesome actor. In 93 with no technology he is acting and delivering dialogs better than any other actor present today on Indian TV. I am surprised to see an eight rating on IMDb. This beyond 9.5 levels show. Please watch it once in life you will never regret. Also Add profile pictures and other details to this show's profile

Simple yet brilliant!
swanand-hegde7 November 2014
This TV series is an example of how a good TV show can be made with very less budget. It did not have special effects, high drama ,but what it did have is a very good script with a good cast and more importantly it had its heart in the right place. Best things about the show is ,things are kept very simple ,never deviates from its plot and the lead character Byomkesh is shown to be a keen observer with good knowledge of Science(Very rarely shown these days) . One of the best TV shows ever in Indian Television history.I love every episode of it. There are hardly such shows anymore. I wish more people watch it and make shows on similar lines.

The problem solving skills by Byomkesh is amazing in this series, the detailed explanation of every case with some nice background music. This series will remain in the golden memory of 90s kids.

Must watch
priyadarshi_ankit11 June 2019
This series has taught that a detective series needs a good story, even if the story is depicted in one of the simplest manner, it will for sure be liked and appreciated by the audience.

Basu Chaterji's one of the most wonderful work till date
prateekdelboy21 August 2019
However it's an adaptation but still no adaptation had been completed with this much perfection except Basu Chaterji, with some unforgettable performances from Rajit Kapur , KK Raina. The soul of all the episodes were suspense, background score & simplicity.

Superbly made
vaibhavdugar-781149 July 2020
This is by far one of the finest Indian series ever made, yes when I watch it now, I can raise an eyebrow on the, lights, etc but then this was made nearly 3 decades ago but what STANDS OUT is the quality of the screenplay, editing and ofcourse the acting as well as the story. This has kept me glued due to its pace and the story line. No drags, nothing out of the ordinary, very simple and and the plot starts from the word go.. There are times when the supporting actors are not upto the mark, but then the story turns out to be the true hero. Not the forget Rajit Kapur who is exceptional in pulling this off all on his own.

Incredible Storytelling in the Indian Detective Fiction Genre
Jini-B20 September 2020
This series was produced before I was born, and it truly blows my mind how relevant it still is, about 30 years later. The books are great, and the production crew has really tried to stay true to the stories. I am amazed by how real it seems - there is zero melodrama, something that is a staple to most Indian shows these days. The acting and direction reigns supreme, and the production value is also so true to the time period that the series was based in. The age progression is also done so well!

The main actors - Rajit Kapur and K. K. Raina, are both so magnetic on screen and as a member of the audience, their performance would reel anyone in. They have a wonderful banter going on and the chemistry in their bromance is so fun. The direction by Basu Chatterjee is fantastic. He has not only managed to stay true to the book series, but he also brought the stories to a wider audience, and immortalized the character on screen for the Indian audience to marvel at. I watched the series over the period of a few months, and finishing the last episode was a bittersweet feeling. Absolutely loved this show. Really wish more Indian shows managed to convey this fabulous spirit of storytelling.

Outstanding and Charismatic!
Ashvini_7779 January 2020
Outstanding and Charismatic are the words which can be used to describe this serial. The serial is so charismatic and has such a charm that even after watching so may episodes many times , you still feel like watching again and again it has such a Charismatic feeling attached to it. Brilliantly directed and superbly acted , rajat kapoor had simply nailed it. Even after many years of being telecast, the serial has such a repeat value , thanks to mobile and internet. A great masterpiece.

The Quintessential & Engaging Detective Series
vivekw-5621319 December 2022
Byomkesh Bakshi is undoubtedly one of the finest detective serials ever made in Indian Television industry.

Rajit Kapur has nailed the protagonist's character perfectly. He has fit into the role like a hand in a glove. With his pleasant and calm demeanour, he has been solving and existing explaining the cases with great finesse. It's the way Rajit Kapoor breaks down the case at the end of each episode which is the high point and most awaited part.

K K Raina has played a great supporting role throughout the series.

Every single case has been engaging and informative about a lot of things around us, plus the human behaviour.

On the outset, the characters do mirror Sherlock Holmes' characters arcs. But it still has a lot of ingenuity.

The setting of old Calcutta has added to the flavour of the whole series.

A line of appreciation to the theme and background music creators. The scores compliment the series like fish takes to water and completes it as a whole package.

This series is relevant today also and never seems to fade.
