Odile Dicks-Mireaux. Image via Female FirstThe thing about Brooklyn is that everyone can relate to it. Stories of immigration touch almost everyone, or at least run through their family's DNA. Even the move from one state with a personality quite unlike your original home, can feel like a reinvention. Nearly a year after seeing Brooklyn for the first time it's strange to think that I worried that people wouldn't connect to it! Who needs sensationalistic drama when a story is this really. When it's power can sneak up on you?
I had the pleasure of discussing this universal resonance, and the job of defining Eilis (Saoirse Ronan) through her costume changes with the designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux, who herself related to the story. Her mother was French and her father British and they met, both immigrants, in Brooklyn in the 1940s, and built a life in a foreign country together. Odile...

According to a recent report from TV Line, the Outlander season 2 peeps have hired actor, Laurence Dobiesz (left) to portray character , Alex Randall, who is the younger brother of the evil villain, Jack Randall. Unlike Jack, Alex is actually described as being “gentle, loving and kind.” Professionally, he will serve as a curate and secretary for the Duke of Sandringham. In addition to that, executive producer Ronald D. Moore, explained what he thinks season 2 will be like, saying: "In probably every which way you can think of, it’s going to be different than Season 1 was, which I think is one of the strengths of the series overall: its continuing evolution.” Laurence Dobiesz's acting credits includes roles in the ITV procedural The Bill and the TV-movies All the King’s Men (BBC) and Great Expectations (Masterpiece Theatre).

Black Jack may be gone, but Jamie and Claire will certainly be reminded of him in Outlander's second season, and not just by the emotional scars Jamie now carries with him. No, a physical, walking, talking reminder of Jack Randall will be present in Outlander Season 2 thanks to the presence of his younger brother, Alex, who will be played by Laurence Dobiesz. The Wrap was the first to report the casting news. However, the only things that Alex has in common with Black Jack appear to be the same last name and similar facial features. As The Wrap states, Alex “possesses nothing of his older brother Black Jack’s ruthless brutality. A curate and secretary for the Duke of Sandringham, Alex is described as gentle, loving, and kind.” Dobiesz’s prast TV credits include the ITV series The Bill and the TV movies All the King’s Men (BBC...

It's hard to remember a time when Nicolas Cage was a viable, award contending actor, and not just a guy who appeared in movies that serve as a career punchline. But indeed, Cage does have an Oscar on his shelf, and it's thanks to Mike Figgis, who directed him in "Leaving Las Vegas." Now the pair are reuniting for a new movie, and one that was previously attached to Taylor Kitsch and Julian Jarrold (“Great Expectations,” “Brideshead Revisited”). Penned by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), "Exit 147" will find Cage playing a cop who gets involved in some mind games with a woman escaping the abusive husband he has arrested. Figgis says this movie will have "edgy humour" and that it's an ensemble piece with a handful of narrative threads. Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2′s fortnight long stint at the top of the box office chart has come to an abrupt end. What big new smash hit has knocked the Vamps off top spot? I hear you cry. A little known spy flick known as Skyfall of course. Yes, after six weeks on release, Bond moves back up to the top of the pile in the very same week where it surpassed Avatar to become the highest grossing film at the UK Box Office of all time.
I don’t think anybody foresaw it being quite this succesful and hats really do need to go off to Sam Mendes and everyone involved for such an impressive feat. Skyfall has currently taken £94.28 million and you wouldn’t put it past it to be the first film to break the £100million barrier in UK cinemas. Breaking Dawn Part 2 meanwhile, despite a hefty...

Bringing classic characters from literature and TV to a new audience and building off cultural trends is a formula that’s working for Masterpiece on PBS. A recent New York Times article highlighted PBS’ efforts to compete with premium cable channels with, shows like Downton Abbey and the new Sherlock reboot. And several others coming up on the network and at Masterpiece in particular, are taking similar cues — not just remaking the classics, but reimagining the characters in more modern times and ways.

After more than three years of development, Sci Fi Channel has given the green light to Anonymous Rex, a two-hour backdoor pilot/movie based on Eric Garcia's series of books, and has commissioned two more scripts from the Fox TV Studios-produced project. Julian Jarrold (BBC/PBS' Great Expectations) has been tapped to direct the pilot from a script by Joe Menosky (UPN's Star Trek: Voyager). Production is slated to begin in March. Garcia's Rex comedic mystery novels center on Vincent Rubio, a high-tech private investigator who, along with hundreds of others on Earth, are in fact dinosaurs (in his case, Velociraptor). They never became extinct. Instead, they have evolved to be 6 feet tall and have integrated themselves into modern society by disguising themselves with human-looking latex costumes.
