There are few shows that push the boundaries of good taste quite like "It's Sunny in Philadelphia." The long-running FX comedy series has had a relative lack of backlash over the years despite joking about controversial topics in every single episode, but it has come up against some issues with censorship over the years. Sometimes, this happened after the fact, like when five episodes were removed from most streaming services for racially insensitive content in the wake of the George Floyd protests, and sometimes it came at the hands of either network brass or basic network standards. While it's understandable that there might be some pushback for some of the show's wilder ideas, all the way back in season 1 the series' creatives really had to fight even to include a controversial word on the show. This word is not a slur, a swear, or offensive in any way outside of people's feelings around the issue,...

Sonic Youth have announced the official reissue of their lost bootleg, Walls Have Ears, set for release on February 9th, 2024. In honor of the announcement, the band has shared what is believed to be the first official recording of their fan favorite song “Expressway to Yr Skull.”
Previously released in 1986 as a 2xLP set that quickly went out of print, Walls Have Ears features recordings of three seminal Sonic Youth performances during the band’s second visit to the UK. A press release describes the bootleg as “not just a live album but an artful tapestry full of live experimentation with songs, between-song tape segues, darkness, humor and audio verité.”
The album is available for pre-order now, and will be sold digitally as well as on vinyl, CD, and cassette. A deluxe vinyl edition is available to pre-order, featuring exclusive materials including a previously-unreleased performance of “(She’s In a) Bad Mood.

The Beatles‘ Rubber Soul is one of the most beloved classic rock albums of all time. It’s often considered the band’s most extensive foray into folk-rock music. Despite this, some of the great songs on the album aren’t folk songs.
The Beatles | Icon and Image / Contributor 5. ‘The Word’
The Beatles gave us a lot of songs about love, including “All You Need Is Love,” “Love Me Do,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Love You To,” And I Love Her,” “Real Love,” “She Loves You,” and “All My Loving,” just to name a few. “The Word” is another meditation on the subject, but it stands out because of those chic 1960s guitars. Here, The Beatles prove they were just as good at harmonizing as The Beach Boys when they wanted to be. If only this track was a single from The Beatles’ Rubber Soul!

Xavier Henry-Rashid’s London-based sales agency Film Republic has closed deals for multiple territories on “F*cking Bornholm,” a tart comedy of social discomfort. The film had its international premiere in the main competition section of Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label award.
In his review, Variety’s Guy Lodge commented that Polish writer-director Anna Kazejak‘s “precise, piquant film deserves wider festival exposure and discerning distributor interest.” It has now been acquired by Iceland’s Bio Paradis, Arsenal for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Lithuania’s Garsas, Slovenia’s Rtv, Israel’s Yes and Sweden’s Lucky Dogs. The international trailer has its debut below.
In the film, two couples with kids go away for a short holiday on the Danish island of Bornholm. Each person has different goals and expectations, and each one of them and their relationships will be tested.

Major spoilers for the first two episodes of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" follow!
Twenty years after the Peter Jackson trilogy changed the entire face of pop culture and blockbuster filmmaking as we know it, "The Lord of the Rings" is back to prove that author J.R.R. Tolkien's epic material still has a place in our ongoing fantasy lexicon. After months and months of cautious optimism turning into outright hype, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has finally arrived to tell its giant-sized story on the small screen. Though set thousands of years before Frodo or Aragorn or the rest of the Fellowship ever set foot on Middle-earth and in an entirely separate continuity altogether, the Prime Video series still features a few recognizable names, some intriguingly familiar locations, and one particular big bad whose reputation will certainly stand out to anyone...

Stephen Colbert brought back his beloved “Colbert Report” character on Monday — an effort to destroy Donald Trump. The real Colbert needed some help reprising the faux one, and Jon Stewart was there to do just that. And by “there,” we mean in an isolated cabin in the woods, where the former “Daily Show” host keeps his highly patriotic protege. The extremely conservative character soon took the “Late Show” desk, to the familiar “Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!” chant of yesteryear. He then dove right into an old-school version of Comedy Central segment “The Word.” This one was “Trumpiness,” and it was great.

Craig Keller and Uncas Blythe continue our series of film dialogues. Isiah Medina's 88:88 is having its exclusive online premiere at Mubi, playing through April 17, 2016.Craig Keller: We're going to talk about Isiah Medina's 66-minute film from 2015, 88:88. It's a challenging movie: polyphonic, polypictorial, but not confrontational, in fact pretty chilled-out; if it were featured on Top Gear the hosts might praise its speed, dynamic facility, and stability of suspension. 88:88 presents Medina himself and a group of friends or characters from university in and around the neighborhoods of Winnipeg. Now I'll refrain from synopsizing any more. I had a hard time with the film, but like any complicated work revisitations in whole and in part yield stronger comprehension; accordingly, new insights rise to the surface. Going back through it again the other day I started by watching only the first ten minutes, which provide an overture,...

Curious about all those Region B Hammer Blu-rays from overseas, the ones requiring a region-free player? As a public service, Savant has solicited an expert opinion (you'll have to take my word for that) of a film restoration/transfer specialist who is also an informed fan of the filmic output of the little horror studio at Bray. I know, real Hammer fans buy first and worry about quality later, but this little guide might be of help to the rest of us budget-conscious collectors.
A 'Guest' article Written by a trusted Savant correspondent.
(Note: I receive plenty of emails asking for advice about the quality of Region B Blu-rays, most of which I don't see. I have access to industry people qualified to compare and judge the discs, but they stay off the record, because their employers forbid them to go online with their opinions. In 1996, Chris Evans and Danny Baker launched a show that would become as synonymous with 1990s as the Spice Girls and Eric Cantona.
Tfi Friday was the perfect show of its time, airing every Friday evening on Channel 4 and featuring as much Britpop and silly anarchic humour as you could ask for.
Ahead of its one-off comeback show this Friday (June 12), Digital Spy has collected just some of the most memorable and hilarious moments from its five years on air.
1. Shaun Ryder says "f**k" on live TV. In front of your mum.
Pity Chris Evans. With a mouth dodgier than the bizarre moustache he was sporting at the time, it was always going to be something of a liability bringing indie music's chief party-monster Shaun Ryder onto a family show that aired at just 6pm.

It started with an infographic. Then more infographics. And some think pieces. And some brief TwitterRage. Over the last year and a half, women’s role in cinema, specifically Hollywood cinema, has become a lightning rod for discussion and debate, and more so than any time in the past, people are approaching film a little more critically in regards to how women are portrayed. The statistics are mind-numbingly bleak, with women representing a fraction of the work force behind the camera, from director to CEO to the best boy. Women in front of the camera rarely fair much better, with roles such as “beautiful and always understanding girlfriend/wife to the hilarious schlub” and “girl with cleavage that shoots guns in tight clothes”.

Stephen Colbert's super-conservative Comedy Central character is finally copping to the existence of global warming. His reaction, however, stayed pretty true to form: “Fuck it,” Colbert declared on Wednesday night's “The Word” segment. Global warming is bad, but doing something about it is hard. That's a sucky conundrum, Colbert said. It's also a scary future: ”It's so terrifying, that it left a carbon footprint in my pants,” Colbert quipped. British culture was once open to 'messy kids' from secondary moderns. But if you want to make it in 21st century Britain, you'd best have a cut-glass accent and public school pedigree
Last week the actor Stephen McGann spoke out about how difficult it is for young people from working-class backgrounds to enter his profession. "Opportunities are closing down," he said in an interview with the Independent. "If you're a messy kid from a council estate today, I think the chances of you making it as a successful actor are a lot worse than they were."
McGann, 50, youngest of the family of acting brothers, grew up on the edge of Toxteth in Liverpool and was educated at a Catholic grammar school. "What counted for me and my brothers – and for mates of ours like David Morrissey and Ian Hart, all growing up in Dingle and Toxteth – was the real change in education,...

Nile Rodgers has worked alongside David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Madonna. He is the pop mastermind behind Chic. And he's proved this year that he's still got a magical musical touch thanks to some work with daft mask-wearing, French dance geniuses Daft Punk.
In short, Nile Rodgers is a genius.
So how do we, the great British public repay Nile Rodgers? How do we repay the man who gave us the joyous beauty of 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times'? We repay him by making him play as the backing band for Dermot O'Leary's dance moves on X Factor. Shame on us, Britain. Shame On Us.
Introduced as 'a producer to the stars', Nile is now performing for Louis Walsh and a frazzled-looking Nicole Scherzinger. His reward? A piercing, insightful and engaging interview from Dermot O'Leary. "So [Nile], what are you doing at the moment?" Erm, maybe not.

Being a celebrity is oh-so-tough, having to spend half the year on movie sets, then the other half schmoozing with the press talking about what you’ve just filmed; it’s a hard life, and so it’s not surprising they spend their down-time kicking back with as many drinks and…other substances…as they can. While sometimes celebrities will appear on TV shows mildly sozzled after a few beers or glasses of wine in the green room and this only enhances their already charming demeanour, the 10 instances below range from hilariously embarrassing to actually tragic, from alchies who didn’t know how to clean up for TV to simply actors who were having too much fun the night before and hadn’t quite managed to sober up.
Here are 10 celebrities who appeared on TV totally wasted.

As was rumored last week, Joe Carnahan‘s The Grey will be getting a brief and limited theatrical re-release later this week in order to allow the Liam-Neeson-punches-wolves-and-stuff-and-also-you-cry extravaganza to get a late-breaking awards season push. Why anyone would not already have Neeson down as a lock for Best Wolf-Punching Performance of the Year is unknown, but hey, attention spans are short in Hollywood. Caranhan confirmed the news via his Twitter, tweeting out: “Guys, December 7th ‘The Grey’ begins a two week run at the Laemmle Santa Monica theatre & the Laemmle Town Center, Encino. Get The Word Out!” As our pals over at /Film note, the film is already on both DVD and Netflix (it was released nearly a year ago, after all), but if you’re not interested in seeing Liam Neeson fight a wolf with his bare hands and broken bottles on the big screen, I’m not sure what you could possibly be...

Oklahoma City, Ok. We open with a man waiting in the park. A woman walks up to him, and they have a brief small talk about how he wasn’t sure if she would come, but she did anyway… when suddenly the woman hears a strange thumping noise.
It takes a few moments to realize that the noise is coming from the man, and before they can fathom what the heck is going on, the man’s heart jumps out of his chest, spraying the woman with blood.
Welcome to Crazyville, Supernatural, folks!
Cut to some Gas n’ Sip where Sam is just finishing up his phone call, when Dean approaches him, two beers in hand. He uncaps them and hands one to Sam, and Sam fills him in on what's been going on with Kevin and Mama Tran.
Apparently, Garth has safely moved the Trans to his safe houseboat (No Comments!

Hulk Does Not Use The Word Hero Lightly… Jackie Chan Is One Of Hulk’S Heroes.

Last week, amidst storms and lightning and The Angels and Demon drama, we were introduced to a stereotypical overachieving Asian-American kid, Kevin, who turned out to be the new prophet and the only one who could translate The Word of God.
The Word revealed that the ultimate weapon to kill a Leviathan is “a bone of a righteous mortal, washed in the bloods of the three fallen – A fallen angel, King of fallen humanity, i.e. King of Hell i.e. Crowley, and father of the fallen beasts i.e. an Alpha monster.”
And after volunteering his blood for that of the fallen angel, semi-crazy Castiel took off. He’s currently on a tour, with Meg, visiting dog tracks and apiaries around the world.
With that, I welcome you all to the penultimate episode of Supernatural.

The year was 1993. I was watching Channel 4′s ‘The Word’ (it’s not a crime, honest!), dreaming of leaving the one horse town I lived in for University the following year when my speakers started crackling a sound that was like a locomotive rushing headlong towards me… ‘Supersonic’ by Oasis was blaring out and I knew I needed to follow these guys through thick and thin! Since then bands have come and gone – I’d continually listen to new sounds hoping to revisit that same raw energy feel I had that day, but nothing really had the same impact… Until last week! A good friend linked me You Tube Footage of ‘Lois and the Love’ playing live with the words ‘this sound is going to explode’. A handful of songs and twenty minutes later the goosebumps had returned and like those 19 years ago I was listening to a band...

Kevin Tran, honour student/the new prophet
In Neighbor, Mi, a young student named Kevin Tran, is playing a cello, updating his study schedule and stressing about acing the SATs. Okay, he's basically checking off every stereotype there is for academic over-achieving Asian Americans. You know, the show could've thrown us a curveball and had this Tran kid be a pot-smoking slacker.
At the same time, Sam and Dean have settled into an abandoned squat and have started going through the suitcase they stole from Dick Roman. There's a stone slab inside and after looking it over, the guys figure that whatever Dick was searching for is trapped inside it.
Out comes the good old hammer set. With Dean’s first stroke of hammer, a storm sets in. And with each next stroke, it only intensifies. “Does that sound like somebody saying ‘No! Wait! Stop!’ to you?” he wonders. Sam agrees.

First A Serbian Film then The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence) and now the UK is censoring one of their own flicks. We've just gotten word that the British film Deadtime had to have footage removed to make the necessary BFFC18 rating.
However, apart from the bad news of the censoring, we can happily report that we've got the trailer for Deadtime below. Oh and if you were wondering what it was censored for, the report stated: In order to obtain the necessary BBFC 18 rating, distributor 4Digital Media had to remove 12 seconds of a scene that is described by the BBFC containing: a scene of sexual and sexualized violence, in this case a woman being stabbed between the legs with a blade. Ouch.
The censored version of Deadtime arrives in UK stores on May 14th, 2012. For more visit the official Deadtime website and like the fficial Deadtime Facebook page.

Yes, it 's true: AfterElton.com is doing for the Colbert Report what we did in 2007 for The Daily Show: mine its funniest and hardest-hitting queer moments. (And we took this opportunity to update The Daily Show piece with some of Jon Stewart's queer highlights since 2007, too.)
Colbert, like Stewart, is a strong ally for the gay community, consistently using his fake-conservative persona to smilingly tear homophobic politicians and small minded public figures into tiny little shreds of battered, bleeding flesh, and then – still smiling – feed them to the sharks. In fact, the biggest problem with doing this feature was trying to find a way to fit in all the really good stuff.
We think this is a pretty comprehensive roundup. But an exhaustive review of every single great gay moment on The Colbert Report would be nearly impossible. We hope our readers will augment this compendium by...

44 year old Tracey Moran seemed an unlikely choice for a professional dancer when she first appeared on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent.
The dedicated cat owner cleans planes for a living and told Ant and Dec that she hoped to be able to quit her day job and pursue a showbiz career after her audition.
She then took to the stage and clumsily moved along to Grease Is The Word for Michael McIntyre, Amanda Holden and Louis Walsh….in between hitching her trousers up to avoid showing a builders bum!
The audience loved her tryout, but then the crowd loved Jedward when they tried out for The X factor so public appeal doesn’t necessarily equate to talent. However, Tracey was funny….we have to give her that!
After her audition, Michael said:
Tracey when you walked on I thought we needed to change everything and now I want you to change nothing!

Segments: Tim Pawlenty Declares Candidacy Before He’s Ready, The Word – Buy and Cellulite, The Enemy Within – Unicyclists
Videos: Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Stephen definitely started the show with a strong message for those young presidential candidate – wait for the right pundit to make your announcement to, and don’t waste it on someone like Piers Morgan. Maybe we should get them all engraved Announcement Purity Rings – “It can wait … for Anderson Cooper.”
So I’m still confused – what does that new deodorant do for women’s underarms exactly? Does it exfoliate? Or leave the armpits hair-free for longer? I laughed pretty hard at this, until it hit me that I’ve been going to laser hair removal for my pits for months now. So who am I to judge, really? Also, with my elbow waddle, I won’t be going sleeveless any time soon anyway.

Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of cultural references on The Colbert Report. From Darcy to Danger Mouse, String Theory to Shakespeare, we’ve got the keys to this week’s obscure, oddball, and occasionally obscene cultural shout-outs (hey!).
Cheerio Zoners! Another smashing week on the Report! It was great to catch a glimpse into British culture. I usually only get that from my favorite Brit Coms. I nearly broke a rib laughing during the tea segment! And how about James Franco? He really is living my dream. If I had the chance, I’d go back to school in a heartbeat! What were your favorite segments?

Segments: Top News Stories All at Once, Stephen Colbert’s Raging Art-On – Art 3, The Word – Over-Reactor

While I love the character of “Stephen”, I find it even more joy inducing when the real Stephen just glows at the beginning of the show when the crowd starts chanting his name. It reminds me that making us happy brings him joy as well. Plus we get to see that gorgeous smile before “Stephen” starts nailing stuff.
So glad that Stephen’s covering all the news at once – I don’t have time for all that “one story at a time nonsense”. Or, you know, facts. Yay for the red 20-sided die! I think it’s courageous of Stephen to have the exclusive coverage of his art auction. I think it’s a news story that the mainstream media has buried for far too long.

Happy Birthday, Kier!
The United States of Tara's Kier Gilchrist turns 18-years-old today. He also has a movie coming out next week called It's Kind of a Funny Story, in which he's in a psych ward (which is ironic since he's the sanest member of his TV family). Here we have his mother, played by Lauren Graham explaining to him he has to stay committed.
NOMExposed has launched today to help show the money trail and the power players in the anti-equality movement. Unfortunately, the site has suffered time issues all day, so I can't give much of a review yet. Hackers have published what's being called a definitive list of terms that Google Instant censors. There are a lot of Glbt specific terms on the list, and some activists are upset. but as someone who has to search the Internet with SafeSearch off, I know that innocent terms can produce profane results.

With a poster this cool, who needs brains or originality? Alright, in all fairness, British slasher Deadtime looks like it at least has it's tongue-in-cheek and that counts for something, but I'm posting this more for the fun of it all than as an endorsement of how good I think it could be.
Synopsis:
The story revolves around a troubled rock band whose unscrupulous record label producer, played by Channel 4’s “The Word” presenter Terry Christian, sends them to a run down studio in the Midlands to create their ‘magnum opus’ and revive their flagging career. As the guitars rock and the cameras roll, the entire entourage is stalked by a psychotic assailant, who seems hell bent on killing them all in ways that are increasingly graphic and creative.

It looks like it might be your standard slasher fare, but the poster for Deadtime is what really caught my attention here. The story is simple enough, concerning a down on their luck band being stalked by a mysterious killer.
