Better than you think it should be
dbborroughs11 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
A nudie western, sort of. Yes the Indians are all topless women but they are barely, no pun intended,in it.

Its about a group of people who go off to find gold in Indian territory and being picked off one by one.Its pretty much a straight forward western for much of its running time. Actually its a good, but by no means great, b western that would be totally forgotten had it not had the naked Indians. Frankly its better than many program westerns that had been cranked out over the years. I'm guessing that the topless girls were added simply to be able to get some sort of ticket sale.

Its 53 minutes and isn't a bad way to spend a rainy hour.

Bland besides boobies
rchunah20 September 2012
Hard to believe 2 cinematographers receive credit for this. All medium shots, no closeups, and the camera stationary. Inter-cutting within a scene is almost non-existent. Everything feels like it's happening from a distance.

The music score by Gene Kauer was lifted from the previous years THE ASTOUNDING SHE-MONSTER to which he is also credited. Kenne Duncan who narrates this at the beginning and closing portion also acted in aforementioned film.

The print quality of the Something Weird Video release is flawless which shouldn't be too surprising as it's doubtful the negative received any wear and tear beyond generating a few prints for circulation at the time of it's release.

Cheap, awful western with added skin
Leofwine_draca18 January 2017
REVENGE OF THE VIRGINS is an early skin flick that plays out as a cheapo western set in the great outdoors. The main characters are a group of gold prospectors including a grizzled old timer, a couple of youthful cowboys, and various others, all of whom are united in the fact that they're entirely boring and lacking in characterisation. They travel to an area said to contain substantial amounts of gold, but the problem for them is that said gold is protected by a murderous female Native American tribe.

This is where the nudity comes in. The women all run around topless and show off their flesh for their occasional scenes. There's no more story to that and otherwise the tale has the mild kind of violence you'd see in a B-movie western from the era. The production values are cheap and there's zero suspense or really any reason to watch as the acting is uniformly bad too. The script was written by the inimitable Ed Wood, who really was happy to put his name to any old nonsense.

The first nudie western.....?
Sum Flounder26 February 2002
You can almost smell the mould from the basement they undoubtedly found this one in. At first glance, this film looks like another one of the many low-budget westerns cranked out in the thirties and forties, even though it was made sometime later. It "borrows" its basic idea from THE TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE, i.e. a small group of people go prospecting for gold and fall victim to their own greed. A new twist is that they're prospecting in "injun country," and are being watched by a small all-female tribe.

This brings us to the real point of this movie. All of these Indian maids are TOPLESS. REVENGE OF THE VIRGINS was made at a time when independent film producers were just starting to put nudity into their product. Because this is such an early example, it is a very tame one. It's hard to imagine now that people would actually leave their homes to see a few brief, black and white shots of darkly-photographed breasts - but they did.

For all of you fans of cheap movies, this one is narrated by Ed Wood regular Kenne Duncan, reuses the music from THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS and is directed by Pete Perry - who gave us the amazing KISS ME QUICK!

Henry Darrow's First "Big Break"
jeanb724 March 2012
Most of us who are over 50 remember Henry Darrow not just from HARRY-O, but from his far better-known role as Manolito Montoya on THE HIGH CHAPARRAL. Credited as "Hank Delgado" (his birth name is Enrique Delgado), Darrow plays gunslinger Wade in this schlock western penned by the late great Golden Turkey Award winning Ed Wood (under the pseudonym Pete LaRoche). The film definitely lives up to Wood's stellar (ahem) reputation as a *really* bad movie producer/writer/director. The cast thought they were filming a straight-forward low budget western, and only learned after the fact that "footage of explicitly topless 'Indian' maidens had been spliced into the film post production." Unfortunately, the nudity meant that while it was his first "starring role," Darrow, who "transcended lousy writing, directing, photography, somnambulant co-stars and rubber rattlesnakes to give a credible performance" couldn't list the movie on his resume. For fans of both Darrow and Wood, however, it's quite a B-movie collector's item, though I'd be more inclined to call it a D-movie! Hilariously, unintentionally funny.

(Quotes are from the book HENRY DARROW: LIGHTNING IN THE BOTTLE by Jan Pippins and Henry Darrow.)

Henry Darrow's Screen Debut
Johnny_West9 December 2019
Henry Darrow, who is best known for his awful acting, horribly fake Spanish accent, and bowl haircut when he played Manolito Montoya on High Chapparral; made his screen debut among bouncing breasts in Revenge of the Virgins.

Like the stories in hundreds of other movies and TV Westerns, the white guys are on Indian land trying to steal Indian gold. The only difference in this movie is that the Indians are all topless women. These girls are pretty cute, and they love to dance around topless. They also like to kill any whites that come to their land to find gold. That is gist of the story.

The only reason to fast forward through this movie is for the scenes of the Indian girls. The movie ratings system was not instituted until 1968, or this would have been rated R. The only other notable fact about this movie is that it was written by the notorious Ed Wood, Jr.

Boobies! In the 1950's!!
Coventry20 December 2009
Even though the sight of naked female breast is now easily available through every nearly every possible medium, there are still certain cinema freaks like myself who're seeking out specific movies because they were the first to feature nudity. Go figure! "Revenge of the Virgins" is one of them notorious first films to feature exposed nipples and, even though it's the most common thing in the world by today's standards, the year 1959 was quite early to show breasts! This is a shlocky piece of 50's exploitation with topless Amazon women (supposedly Indian natives) and treasure hunting at a place called Gold Creek. Because of the boobs, this is called an early "nudie western", but fact remains that it's pretty boring to sit through; even at a running time of barely 52 minutes. Basically a simplistic retelling of "The Treasure of Sierra Madre", this film revolves on a bunch of greedy cowboys – and one of them brought his nagging wife along – going on an expedition to a reputedly gold infested creek. The topless natives follow them around inconspicuously and every once and a while they shoot an arrow straight in the center of one of the cowboys' back. Even in a less-than-one-hour lasting film, about three quarters of the running time is filler. There's, for example, an insufferably long ritual dance sequence with the blond girl sitting boring in the middle whilst the other black- haired girls dance stupidly around her. "Revenge of the Virgins" (besides, how can you prove they actually were virgins) is a dull and totally pointless film that is NOT worth watching, regardless of some nice trivia gimmicks.

Most off-putting nudity ever
JoeB1312 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So the whole selling point of this movie in 1959 was that the women were all topless, which is something they couldn't do back then except in Stag films. Except it was the most offputting nudity ever.

The actual plot part was that there is a group of people planning to pan for gold in the Bouncy-Bouncy Tribe's territory, except they take to fighting among themselves while they are slowly being picked off by amazingly fatal arrows. There's also a lot of "Day for Night" and interpretive dance and didn't you just know that scamp Ed Wood was involved somehow. (He didn't direct, but he did write what can laughingly be called the script.)

Kinky western
blumdeluxe29 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Revenge of the virgins" balances somewhere between Western and Soft Porn (50's Soft Porn). The story it tells us is that of a group of strangers connected only by the will to earn their gold that have to suffer betrayal and the attacks of a native American tribe consisting of topless women since all men have already been killed.

It is not hard to figure out, what this movie's purpose is. Showing nudity in movies surely wasn't a common feature those days so I guess this was by far the biggest selling point. Apart from that it is more or less a classic Western pic, not one of the best ones but at least it has some kind of a story to provide a legitimization for what is shown.

With a little more focus on the story rather then the "naughty" aspect this could have been a solid, basic Western. As it is, with all its showing off and obvious racism, it is truly exchangeable.

Nudie-cutie written by Ed Wood
EitoMan24 May 2020
Let's not beat around the busy--this isn't a Howard Hawks or John Ford film. If you're a normal person with pedestrian tastes then go find an episode of Bonanza to watch. For the rest of you though....

Revenge of the Virgins is a sublime nudie-cutie written by the great Ed Wood and directed by Peter Perry Jr who would later go on to produce the fantastic steaming pile of trash "Hollywood High" in 1976.

The acting is about as poor as you could hope for, and the breasts are above average. It's like alchemy!

The plot is pedestrian and could easily have been culled from a long forgotten TV Western...prospector leads a party into Indian territory to find gold, interpersonal conflicts threaten them from within while they are slowly hunted by natives. Except in this film, the natives are nude, buxom beauties.

Revenge of the Virgins is less than an hour long so don't waste any more time--go watch it.

Grim Drive-In Western, Spiced (And Spliced) With Nudity
FightingWesterner24 December 2009
An old-timer leads an uneasy group of treasure seekers back to the gold-rich creek he'd discovered years before and the group ends up being systematically hunted by a fierce tribe of bare-breasted Indian women, led by a white (blonde) chief!

The fact that the two parties never actually appear in the same frame and subtle differences in film stock, leads one to suspect that this was originally shot as a straight western and later spiced up with gratuitous, tacky footage for the grind-house crowd.

However, it's still an interesting, hard-boiled little picture that breast-worshipers undoubtedly will be happy to behold. Some others might find it a bit too silly, though.

Personally, I'd like to see the original version.

Hot topless chicks in 1959!
philspil29 August 2004
Hot topless chicks in 1959! Just saw this movie on a PBS station.

A lousy movie. Looks like a 16mm print. The Indian girls are topless and when their ponytails aren't in the way you see some very pretty breasts. The first time I saw topless was in the movie "Blowup" in 1966. This might be the first topless movie. Although nothing shows down below, no panties are in evidence either. A curious film only because of the nudity. Not listed in the credits is Henry Darrow, I think. You might remember Henry Darrow from the TV show 'Harry O" If you get NY City TV stations look for this film on WLIW late at night.

Beware of hot topless Native American women
Woodyanders24 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A group of folks who are seeking gold run afoul of a lovely, but lethal tribe of bare-breasted Indian beauties after they trespass on sacred Native American ground.

Director Peter Perry Jr. keeps the engrossing and enjoyable story moving along at a steady pace, makes nice use of the desolate terrain, and maintains a surprisingly grim take-no-prisoners tone complete with an uncompromising bummer ending. The plethora of topless Native American gals are very tasty all-natural hotties, with blonde babe Nona Carver a particular stand-out as their leader Yellow Gold. The rest of the cast are solid in their roles: Charles Veltmann Jr. as the meek Melvin Potter, Jodean Lawrence as the greedy and conniving Ruby, Stanton Pritchard as grizzled prospector Pan Taggert, and Henry Darrow as hard-bitten gunslinger Wade Connor. No lost classic, but a fun enough diversion just the same.

At Least the Indian Ladies Are Cute
Michael_Elliott22 December 2015
Revenge of the Virgins (1959)

* 1/2 (out of 4)

A group of men and a woman head into the Old West because one of the men located gold there years earlier. As the group begins their search for gold they come under attack by some topless Indian ladies protecting their land.

REVENGE OF THE VIRGINS is best remembered for being the first nude Western, which I guess is good enough of a reason for people to check this film out. It should be noted that it really does appear that a Western film was taken and edited down with the nude scenes added. I say this because the Western cast is never in the same scene with the nude Indian ladies but I will admit that the filmmakers did a good job at editing the footage together.

With that said, there's really not too many reason to check this out unless you're a fan of sexploitation and want to see this extremely early example of flesh on screen. The Indian ladies are all extremely good looking and show off their breasts whenever their long (fake) hair isn't covering stuff up. As far as the Western film, it's pretty typical for the era and is extremely boring.

REVENGE OF THE VIRGINS is pretty bad on all levels but thankfully it lasts just 53 minutes.
