Roger Coggio thought the French audience did not give Molière the attention the great writer deserved. Thus he tried his hand at "Les Fourberies De Scapin" which he tried to take "out of the stage",filming on location when he could. Some of Molière's best lines were lost in the process."Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme " which takes place entirely in the house of Monsieur Jourdain stood in little danger to bring this about.Unfortunately the movie is marred by an irrelevant song "L'Argent " which tells Jourdain that "money is used for making money" ;which maybe true afterward but was not in Molière 's times ;never a bourgeois would have thought of political power.Colbert ,for instance, was in the service of the Sun king, but the king ruled alone.
