Porno with plot!
cellomaster6 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
There is something good to be said about an adult flick if you find there is much more to it than just the usual bonking. Big-budget porns with the biggest and brightest adult stars, a good script, and creativity are hard to come by, but they do exist. This is one of them.

*SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!*

Veteran porn star Candida Royale presents a tale about four girlfriends who get together for dinner one evening, and wind up chatting about the day they had. All four of them discover that they all tried on, at some point during the day, a hot little purple dress. The dress lead all four girls to fantastic sex and various locations with the same guy.

I've seen both the original hardcore and the edited Playboy versions of this film, and they are both extremely well done. The plot is cheesy, of course, but the acting is good and compliments the corny script without being overbearing. Nina Hartley and Missy are both gorgeous, and the story itself could stand alone (just barely) without the expected sex scenes.

Candida Royale has written other films like this one that have a theme and fantastic acting. I highly recommend them all, especially this one.

Amusing and sexy

Warning: Spoilers
A bit of old-school porn which means a lot of sex but with a plot of sorts to link it all together. Candida Royalle has written a script about a group of four women, plus a secretary who at some point all get to wear the same sexy blue (purple?) dress. The film plays out in five acts as each of the women recount how they came to wear the dress. Candida Royalle started making films because she was disenchanted by previous porn films but herein lies the problem with this film.

Although the script calls for the cast to act the parts, and although the acting will never win any awards, in the end the sex scenes look very much like the porn films that Candida criticised. She wanted to make films for couples but how many couples would do the sort of sex action seen in this film? How many women would like to be taken from behind in the fitting room, even if the salesman is Tom Byron? The camera work also leaves a lot to be desired, the camera moving around too much and too many close-ups.

The best scene in my opinion is the one with Nina Hartley, mainly because she is absolutely gorgeous with her sparkling eyes and fantastic body. There is no doubting why she was one of the top stars of the industry. Ultimately though, this film is just not different enough.

Light and airy Couples porn by the divine Candida
lor_19 December 2016
Julien Duvivier's "Tales of Manhattan" made during WW II is the epitome of vignette cinema in which an object passed from hand to hand (in its case, a formal tail coat) is used to knit together the pieces of the film. The late Candida Royalle adopted the same format for her delightful "One Size Fits All", a tale of a gown and the sexy women who wear it.

The feature begins with Candida's cameo, bringing the gown to a dress shop run by Tom Byron -she has no use for it. There follows a series of customers and borrowers who take the gown and wear it seductively over the course of five sex vignettes, the story inevitably coming full circle.

The sequences are titled: "Ignition", "Seduction", "Deception", Audition" and "Combustion", and the actresses all fulfill the viewer's dream-girl conception to provide satisfying eroticism. Candida is ever-tasteful, creating explicitly sexy scenes while avoiding all the clichés and excesses of mainstream porn, especially as compared to the gonzo/low- brow content that dominates Adult Cinema two decades later. As a writer- director she marched to the beat of her own drummer, and her work holds up very well to viewers committed to such antique niceties as: story, characters, tastefulness, and beauty.

Made back-to-back with overlapping cast from Royalle's lovely "The Bridal Party" feature, film benefits from the acting and sexiness of the unique redhead Melissa Hill, the pristine beauty of then-superstar Missy, the divine Shanna McCullough, timeless talent Nina Hartley and a very earthy, non-porno-like Italian import Gina Rome. Highly recommended for traditionalists, its virtues will go completely unnoticed by the current porno hoi polloi.
