Although public showing at sci-fi conventions is allowed, licensing restrictions prevent this short from being televised or made available over the Internet. Another 1970s sci-fi cult classic, Space: 1999 (1975), was also the subject of a one-time-only revival in 1999 (Message from Moonbase Alpha (1999)).
The entire cast and crew worked for free for the duration of the shoot, as a labor of love for the original series. No one, including the principal cast, was paid for their work.
Although it was edited down to a four minute preview, the project was meant to be nearly a half an hour long with more footage filmed. Some of this footage can be seen on actress Athena Demos ('Lt. Kiross') demo reel. The longer version exists, with unfinished visual effects, with producer Johnnie Young who intends to finish it.
The lair of the Cylons was filmed in the abandoned underground section of the old Herald-Examiner newspaper building in downtown Los Angeles. The newspaper has since been closed down since the early 1980's.
