Granted, I was part of this film's production and am biased towards it, but I think I can stand my ground to comment on this one. It took two viewings (consecutive) for me to see how good this film is. Initially, I thought Rehj just delivered her lines so flatly that they sound read, but that may have been because I was sitting next to her and she was embarrassed seeing her own work. Of course, her character has just been snorting cocaine and is tired. Everyone was praising Steve's Clintonesque sex scene (oral on the phone) was great acting since Rehj wasn't actually in the room, but trashed on me for laughing at the funny situation (even if it IS marital).
Anyway, you see a bit of my leg in one shot and I got credited as micellaneous crew. It was a surprisingly long shoot with a lot of things working perfectly, even if the premiere was haunted by what was surely Stanley Kubrick's ghost, since we dared to premiere it on his opening. In one scene as Jon Thomas (don't say Reg looks like William Hurt) is reporting, a police car happened to drive by, and it looked just right for the scene. University buildings managed to look like a TV station, even if they weren't contiguous with the campus studio. The music, by members of Arrin Stoner's defunct band, Boxcar-5 is perfectly suited to the scenes in which it is used, and Reg's news theme is quite good as well. While some of the shots had to be simplified, Jeff managed to get in everywhere, even crouching in restroom stalls. The script (to me) didn't look as promising as it turned out, and I hope that's the case with his new ones, particularly since I'll be involved with them in some way or another.
This is a fine first film. Sometimes people making things for fun can do better than people making things for a grade, I have learned.
