Filmation strikes again...
Nine cartoons from "The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle" were released on video; I rather stupidly thought when I rented it that they would either be Terrytoons or the Ralph Bakshi era. Instead, I was treated to the usual low-quality Filmation treatment of Mighty Mouse (whose quips would have made even Roger Moore's James Bond pause), his beloved Pearl Pureheart and the evil Oil Can Harry. Ick.
But some of the episodes were, surprisingly, blessed with a tinge of wit in their scripting (among the writers was Sam Simon, future co-developer of "The Simpsons," which certainly explains why his episodes were the best of the ones that I watched). They even managed to slip in a couple of nice touches, like a blanket decorated with the Filmation logo. All in all, though, I'd still rather have the Terrytoons...
