Although this is the last NBC daytime game shows under the leadership of Madeline B. David, the show had fared poorly at the timeslot against the ABC hit Family Feud (1976), and facing the CBS soap Love of Life (1951), it was canned by then-new NBC executive and VP of daytime programs Michael Brockman, who had reportedly said that they disliked the show, and it was replaced by a revival of The New High Rollers (1974) through a timeslot shuffle with Wheel of Fortune (1975).
'Knockout' is a game show format pitting three contestants against each other to identify which of four listed items was out of place. The show was created by Mark Maxwell-Smith, and aired on the NBC Network daily five times per week. The show was hosted by Arte Johnson and announced by Jay Stewart, and later announced by John Harlan.. The format was successfully revamped by the BBC as 'Odd One Out' in 1983.
