1975, In an early dawn of the month of Ramzan, an eunuch picked up a mutilated new-born girl-child from the streets of Mahim, Mumbai - whom he later named Tamanna. This work of fiction is inspired from that true incident. Tikku still lives an anonymous life in the bylanes of Mahim.
Nirmal Pandey was signed for Sharad Kapoor's role. After shooting for a few weeks, Pooja Bhatt felt Nirmal didn't suit the role of a leading man (Hero). Shots of Nirmal Pandey from far away were retained and used in the trailer of the movie. This was very unusual and made no sense.
The film was planned as a tele film.
Manoj Bajpai accepted a role of a older man because he did not want to lose the opportunity to work with Mahesh Bhatt. In the beginning of the project there were date issues with Paresh Rawal. Mahesh Bhatt at one point was considering to cast Manoj Bajpai in the title role.
One of the last film Mahesh Bhatt made before retiring. His last work was Zakhm, but Kartoos & Angaarey were released later.
