Superhero fans are thoroughly enjoying the new X-Men ’97 animated series. The show is a continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series that launched in 1992. However, this recent release from Marvel Studios Animation has also got comic-book buffs wondering if they could soon get a long-awaited Spider-Man animated show.
Spider-Man’s animated cartoons have been a fan favorite over the past five decades. The first cartoon featuring the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler came out in 1967 and the superhero has been on a roll ever since. However, the character’s complicated TV rights have made it rather difficult to adapt the long-awaited Spider-Man ’98 show on TV.

Keith Giffen, known both as a comic book writer and artist whose characters have appeared in live-action franchises from Marvel and DC Comics, has died. He was 70 years old and had worked in comics since 1976.
Giffen was known for having a hand in the creation of characters including Lobo, Guardians of the Galaxy furry teammate Rocket Raccoon and the modern Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle. He also wrote acclaimed runs of “Justice League” and the “Legion of Super-Heroes,” as well as creating the cult fourth-wall-breaking character Ambush Bug (a decade earlier than Deadpool).
He died Sunday of a stroke, according to media reports (first reported by Bleeding Cool), but the news of his death wasn’t made public until Wednesday evening.
The comic creator often brought a wry sense of humor to his work. That included a posthumous Facebook post he’d arranged to have put up Wednesday after his death,...

This post contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
Spider-Man has almost as long a history in animation as he does in the comic pages where he originated. That's why the "Spider-Verse" films' conceit — placing different Spider-People together and representing them with different styles of animation — is so clever. While the original "Into the Spider-Verse" featured only six Spider-People teaming up, the sequel "Across the Spider-Verse" takes things into overdrive with hundreds of them. This fulfills the promise of a Spider-Verse.
Most of these Spider-People are simple cameos or easter eggs -- they're all going about their day in Miguel O'Hara's (Oscar Isaac) citadel on Earth-928 and the film rarely lingers on them. However, knowledgeable Spider-Fans will spot some stars among the crowd. "Across the Spider-Verse" treats all Spider-Man audiovisual media as part of one big web. So, like how "Spider-Man: No Way Home" united the live-action Spider-Man actors,...

When you look at the biggest cinematic leaps of the last decade, one film stands particularly tall: undeniably, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse changed everything. The most seismic shift in mainstream animated_, the boundary-breaking sequel that tumbles further down all kinds of multiversal rabbitholes.
The new issue of Empire presents a world-exclusive deep dive into Across The Spider-Verse – a follow-up that’s ready to explode with a vast line-up of Spidey variants, a dizzying array of new worlds, and an even bigger heart than before as it deepens the relationship between Miles and Gwen. Inside the issue, we get the full story on a film that breaks even more rules than its predecessor, bringing even more mind-blowing art styles as it introduces a wormhole-spewing super-villain. Inside, we speak to maverick writer-producers Phil Lord, about pushing every dial further this time around. While it doesn’t quite stack up to its DC counterpart, the Marvel Animated Universe stretched through the ’90s and had some real bangers. Much like the modern cinematic universe, various cartoons were connected as one giant piece of continuity. X-Men and Spider-Man were the biggest hits while Iron Man, Fantastic Four, and others had less of an impact. The closest thing they had to a climactic culmination was the Secret Wars adaptation near the end of Spider-Man’s final season. After that, they kind of limped into oblivion with a few shows that didn’t catch on.
That leads to the biggest difference between the Marvel Animated Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it came to the latter, the real beginning came from the Avengers brand name. Nick Fury appearing at the end of Iron Man to discuss the Avengers Initiative was a sign of what these movies...

Whether you’re a toonhead or prefer live-action fare, Disney+ UK will surely have something Marvel-ous for you, and that’s because it’s in a prime position to bring you a wider selection of Marvel comic book TV series content than its Us counterpart.
Disney+ UK will feature five seasons of ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and is also streaming Hulu’s Runaways. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of classic Marvel animated series to catch up on, like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and an opportunity to check out newer planet-hopping adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
There’s also further live-action series waiting in the wings – a Loki standalone series, a team up between Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the debut of Ms Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight, among others, plus an animated What If? show that might have you asking yourself that very question about the possibility of more What If?...

After 37 years of fighting crime in the same outfit, Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, has been given a new costume. Spider-Woman was introduced to the Marvel comics universe in 1977, and the new outfit keeps the spirit of the original, but offers a different and cool new modern look. It includes more leather, black pants, two-toned gloves and a jacket that goes "from streetwear to spider-bedecked superhero gear in just a few snaps."
When talking about the costume, the comic's editor, Nick Lowe, said he "wanted a costume that walked the line between superhero-ready and something a woman would wear in the real world. But for the most part they're clothes to kick ass in." The redesign will also start a tone change for the series that will see the character return to a more 'street-level' approach to crime fighting. Lowe says:

Apart from a few short-lived variations, Spider-Man has had the same costume since his first appearance. The same can be said for Spider-Woman, but following her debut as a playable character in the Spider-Man Unlimited mobile game with a very different appearance (screenshots from the game can be found below), Jessica Drew will also be seen in the new costume in the comic books from March onwards. That will mark a different direction for the character as the focus turns to her being more of a street level superhero. "As much as I'm a fan of spandex and it has its time and place, I felt Jess as a character could move away from that for a good long while," says Spider-Woman editor Nick Lowe. "Spider-Man isn't really a detective — he swings around looking for trouble, whereas Jess needs to go and figure stuff out and dig things up, and...

America has watched lot of Spider-Man over the years. After all, the newly released The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the sequel of a reboot of a trilogy of movies that are barely a decade old. The new wave of ubiquity is self-evident. Yet the superhero also spent years and years on television and in video games. The original Spider-Man cartoon series began airing in 1967 and there have been eight more iterations over the years. This is a totally different situation than, for example, that of Captain America whose cartoon life begins and ends with The Marvel Super Heroes in 1966 (which I featured here last month). There’s also been something of a glut recently. Spider-Man Unlimited aired from 1999-2001 followed by Spider-Man: The New Animated Series in 2001, The Spectacular Spider-Man in 2008-2009 and Ultimate Spider-Man in 2012. None of them were particularly successful, either critically or commercially. So it makes sense to take a look back at (and...

These past few months have been pretty superior for Spider-Man. For those of you who aren't up speed, writer Dan Slott has placed the mind of Doctor Otto Octavius—a.k.a. Doctor Octopus—into Peter Parker's body within the pages of Marvel's "Superior Spider-Man.". Now, as if that weren't exciting enough, Slott will be re-introducing a fan-favorite futuristic character: Miguel O'Hara, a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099.
Making his big comeback in issue #17 of "Superior Spider-Man," Miguel O'Hara had another brush with fame following "Spider-Man 2099's" cancellation way back in 1996. Following the end of Fox's successful—and long-running—"Spider-Man" cartoon, they looked to 2099 for inspiration.

How many of those names are hinted at in the final film, however, remains to be seen. It hasn’t been confirmed what changes will be seen in the third season of Talking Dead, but we’ll have more details later this year. Based on the success of the show, we expect that the one-hour format will continue and that the show will follow the first airing of The Walking Dead.

The Ravencroft Institute first appeared in Spider-Man Unlimited #1 (1993). It was set up by the government and run by Dr. Ashley Kafka, who had successfully reformed a Marvel villain named Vermin. The Institute would house many of Spider-Man’s villains.
Some have compared it to Batman’s Arkham Asylum.
One of the patients housed in the Ravencroft Institute was Electro, played in this film by Jamie Foxx. Are Electro pictures on the way?
Also, will we catch a glimpse of other Spider-Man villains that may appear in future films?

While it’s true that we still have five more episodes of Season 3 of The Walking Dead to go, the gears of production are beginning to grind for Season 4. AMC is reporting that production begins on May 6 in Atlanta, just over two months from now. They’ve also announced a few promotions within the ranks.
As we told you in December, showrunner Glen Mazzara will not be returning for the next season, but as we told you in January, that position has been filled by writer and supervising producer Scott Gimple. AMC is now confirming that news, along with announcing the news that special effects god Greg Nicotero is rightfully being bumped up from producer to executive producer in the new season.
Here are all the details, including some interesting credits for the very accomplished Mr. Gimple:

As The Amazing Spider-Man hits UK Cinemas on Tuesday (our review Here), there is no doubt that it will divide opinions, which is not a surprise as so many are still shocked and confused about why Sony decided to reboot a franchise that was so young in the first place. Whether or not you enjoy new director Marc Webb`s direction of our web-slinging hero, there is no doubt that you would have enjoyed the generations of animated TV series which Spider-Man has graced.
Here is a countdown of the best ones.
5. Spider-Man Unlimited
After the well liked 1994 version of Spider-Man was cancelled it would be almost impossible to better the show doing the same thing…so they didn’t. This Spider-Man was completely different to the show that came before it. Spider-Man’s suit was different, he could turn invisible and had sonic weaponry; it was even set on a different planet.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Emmy-nominated composer David Ari Leon whose work can be heard on many super hero cartoons and specials such as Spider-Man Unlimited (1999-2001), Ultimate Avengers (2006), Planet Hulk (2010), and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2011). He most recently scored for a new ABC show with Sea World called Sea Rescue that is a part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure Block premiering Saturday morning, April 7. We also talked about all of the video game composing he’s done and how that’s given him a large variety of work to create.
David, what musically is different in the two seasons of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?
David Ari Leon: Musically they’re very consistent, there wasn’t a change from seasons other than it was just an evolution of the story. So it was continued forward from what was done already. For me it...

With a resume that could best be described as the very definition of awesometasticness, Will Meugniot is a working legend. Given the opportunity to sit down with him–if only through these odd and twisted halls of the interwebs and Skype–I was tempted to simply pelt him with geeky question after geeky question. Allow me a quick explantion: Reading through his resume, Will Meugniot has worked on an amazing array of projects anyone in Generation X or before would swoon over. As a storyboard artist, writer, producer, and director for (amongst other things) Captain Planet, EXOsquad (aka Exo-Force as you’ll see in our next installment), Jem, Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters, and comics like Tigra, The DNAgents, and Vanity… suffice to say I had a hard time not grilling the poor man for several days.
As we mentioned previously, Will is writing and drawing a brand new comic with an old school feel.
