Titanic Remembered (1992)
*** (out of 4)
British documentary running 55-minutes takes a look at a few stories of the Titanic. Narrator/host Ray Johnson starts off talking about the actual sinking and then we break off into a few other subjects. Included are the various Titanic Societies from around the world and we get to meet a few of the people including Philip Groucher, Patrick Toms, Martin Smith and Don Payne. The people talk about why they're so fascinated with Titanic and tell a few of their personal stories. We get archival interviews with survivors Eva Hart and Edith Haisman and it's interesting to hear that both of them had family members who had bad feelings boarding the ship. We also get to hear from family members who knew people that survived the ordeal or who died on the ship. Grace Richards was married to a survivor, Betty Walker tells the story of how she was conceived on-board the ship and Patricia Mayhew is the niece of a survivor. Molly Adams' father was on the ship and she even has a set of keys to the Titanic café that he gave her. We even hear a rather amazing story of James Fraser, Junior Assistant Third Engineer who died on the ship and his son would die in nearly the same part of the ocean thirty years later. We also get to see other bits of memorabilia that has came up over the years. If you're looking for a National Geographic type of documentary then you're not going to find it here because this is a rather cheaply made documentary that was clearly just thrown together to try and make money. There's certainly nothing wrong with that because what is here is rather impressive. I really enjoyed hearing from the various family members because the subject itself is just so fascinating that you really could listen to anyone and be entertained. Some of the stories are quite dramatic and we get to see some pretty neat items in regards to the memorabilia.
