Joey Travolta and "The Last Game"
freakfire-11 October 2008
Wow, it appears the 'talent gene' didn't quite make it to Joey Travolta, but instead went to John Travolta. But thats OK, you don't need much talent to do crap movies like this one.

This film was certainly cheap in all aspects. Focused around a girl and her fear while playing basketball, it doesn't take long before Joey "The Cop" Travolta brings into action from (literally) the doughnut shop.

Everything about this movie didn't quite wash. The basketball games, the cop chase that included a swim. None of it made any sense and it wasn't even funny in a good way.

Sorry Joey, better luck being an Overnight Manager at Whataburger. "F

If the script flaws had just been worked on, it would have been great

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is little known. I picked it up in the bargain bin for a dollar. I'm going to assume that no one will read this except the people that made it, and confine my comments to them, for hopefully their education and improvement.

The movie has two flaws: first, the script just needs more oomph. You could get this movie by taking a really, really good script, then letting Curious George mess with it before running off copies for the cast and director - there are little disconnects here there and everywhere in the plot and dialog. Second, it all moves a little too slow. All they had to do was sit down and go over the script with some friends for a few hours, red-line it, fix it, repeat this process about three times. Then later in the editing room, remove about 20 to 40% of the footage - just a few seconds here, there and everywhere that don't help tell the story. Then it would have been a VERY charming movie about a partly deaf girl who does good on the b-ball team because of some coaching by her brother on individual skills, and how proud her dad is of her. It could have won all kinds of awards! I have a daughter that I've coached just this way and the basic theme here is absolutely true and very beautiful. Everything else about the movie PROVES that you don't need a big budget or sets or sound stages or expensive casting or special effects or certified crew. These are tools to help tell the story but just use whatever tools you have - just use them well. What does it cost to rewrite a script? Very little.

I enjoyed this film.

This is a good family film, Not Award winning quality, but a good film. Sherean Neville played a good part for a newcomer, but this must have been her only film because I've never seen her in anything else. Too Bad.

The film kept my interest throughout, the story is decent, although somewhat predictable.

I would recommend this for a family night that includes young children. It should teach them something about respecting others.

Like I said, I liked it. There are a whole lot of worse films on the market today. It's good to see a film without killing or sex.

Watchable, pleasant, wholesome, touching, unique

It's a family film that kids might like. There are a couple of plot turns which are unlikely in real life. That may bother you in some moods; for me, these child-like turns added to the film's dream-like quality. The sound track in the first few minutes, starting with opening credits, is annoying enough to take off a star or two. The scenes are framed pleasantly. The story is easy to follow. The lighting is good. The people are likable.

One character in the film is hard-of-hearing, and the story is about her family life, her father's life, and finding her focus. If the acting or production values seem home-made, that's no reason to enjoy it less. If everything about this movie were given high-end production values, it would please the snobs more (which all of us can be sometimes), but it wouldn't be any better.

The film makes a story from life's little problems. It's not an escapist film the way most entertainment-driven movies are.

Still, it's not going to make You want to escape, either. If you like people, you'll like these people and this family film of redemption and growth.

Affirms life through adequate story-telling.
