Ray Manzarek, a founding member of The Doors who was in large part responsible for the band's indelible sound, has died.
Manzarek, 74, died Monday (May 20) at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany, after struggling with bile duct cancer, according to a post on The Doors Facebook page. His wife, Dorothy, and brothers James and Rick were with him when he passed.
Manzarek and Jim Morrison founded The Doors in 1965 and would go on to become one of the biggest bands of the late 1960s. Starting with their self-titled debut, the band had seven consecutive platinum-selling albums (including one compilation) and eight Top 40 singles, including "Light My Fire," "Hello, I Love You," "People Are Strange," "Love Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm."
Manzarek, Morrison, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore collaborated on nearly all of The Doors' songs. Manzarek's organ and keyboard playing was a signature feature of the band's music,...

Unlike other Bollywood guitarists and rockers who manhandle the guitar, using it like a coconut scraper and sporting some attitude, when Ranbir Kapoor thrashes his Rickenbacker like Pete Townsend, you just know here’s the original cinematic rocker.
Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor), a Delhi college boy idolizes his hero Jim Morrison and his provocateur antics in the rock ‘n roll canon. However, Jakhar does not have that certain ‘it’ according to all around him, and the ‘it’ being all that heartbreak that conjures up a song like ‘Love Her Madly’. Therefore, begins Janardhan’s quest to match his hero’s intensity and artistic heights, with mistakes along the way, to become a broody and neurotic performer with a stony face.
The one that got away or the object of Jordan’s obsession is Heer (Nargis Fakhri), the posh ‘dil todne ka machine’ that Jordan pursues with a persistence that is so endearing.

Tim Sullivan (Driftwood, Chillerama, Vh1.s Scream Queens) has optioned the rights to Doors co-founder Ray Manzarek.s bestselling novel The Poet in Exile. Plans call for a feature film to be written and directed by Sullivan and produced by Manzarek. Sullivan will co-write the script with Chillerama producer and editor Gavin Heffernan (Expiration) and New Mexico poet/author Liz Sullivan (Icons and Outcasts).
Published to strong acclaim, Manzarek.s novel explores the notion .what if. his former band mate, the iconic rock and roll poet and legend Jim Morrison, did indeed stage his death in 1971 (as widely speculated), and now, 40 years later, contacts Manzarek from his hiding place in the Seychelles Islands to embark on one final journey of rock and roll rebellion.

The Doors were one of the first bands that came to mind for a lot of us as soon as keyboards were revealed to be a part of "Rockband 3." In fact, the Ray Manzarek fans among us wondered not only if the keyboardist's band would be included, but how many of their tracks would make the cut. The group appeared on the full track list for the new game, and today the "Rock Band 3" team announced that Jim Morrison and company would also get to be featured in the first batch of Dlc after the game ships on October 26.
"At the outset of the 'Rock Band 3' project, we identified The Doors, and their powerful songs driven by intricately woven keyboard, guitar and drum parts, as ideal for our game," MTV Networks senior vice president of music, electronic games and programming Paul DeGooyer said in a statement. "As they are...

Hollywood actor to read Jim Morrison's poetry on soundtrack album for forthcoming documentary
The soundtrack album for a forthcoming Doors documentary will feature 12 of the band's classic songs, five rare clips – and 15 tracks of Johnny Depp reading poetry. The actor appears on almost half of the record's cuts, reciting verse written by Jim Morrison.
Depp provides the narration for When You're Strange, a film by Tom Dicillo. The documentary draws on hundreds of hours of footage of the Los Angeles group, from their early beginnings to Morrison's death in 1971. It recently played at the Berlin film festival, where Doors drummer John Densmore said he "got a little teary" when he saw footage of the band's late singer.
"It shows Jim in the beginning, his innocence and shyness and everything, and I love seeing that – that's the Jim I knew," Densmore told Mojo. The film also suggests that the Doors would have reunited,...

With the resurgence of development on Universal's Kurt Cobain biopic, I'm back to pondering how many different ways such a film could go. Well, not this particular film, which is likely being confined to certain stipulations by executive producers Courtney Love and her lawyer, Howard Weitzman. But what if someone else, say Oliver Stone or Kurt & Courtney director Nick Broomfield, wanted to go in a more speculative, potentially anti-Courtney direction? Or, given that I'm Not There co-writer Oren Moverman is now set to helm the thing, I'm imagining something more experimental than Universal is really apt to go for. It all reminds me of the controversy of...

Now, I'm a lover of Stone's movie, but many fans of the band disagree with its portrayal of Jim Morrison and the rest, as well as it's manipulation of facts and chronology. Actually, moreso than the fans, the surviving members of...
