Scream 7 and the Escape from New York requel may be off the table for the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, but they have just set up a new high profile project. Deadline reports that Radio Silence is set to make The Robots Go Crazy, which has Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs, and Hot Rod attached to star in it.
Samberg is known for his comedy work, and sure enough, The Robots Go Crazy will be taking the Radio Silence team – which previously brought us the horror comedy Ready or Not, the slasher sequels Scream (2022) and Scream VI, the vampire movie Abigail, and segments of the horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound – out of the horror genre. This project is being described as an action comedy.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is filled with inspiration and references to a lot of mythical and mythological narratives that are spread across the world. From Alabasta to Fish-men Island, every new arc brings with it a reference to one of the old cultural tales from different communities. The same is going to happen with the Elbaf arc.
One Piece
With the Egghead arc reaching its conclusion slowly, the next adventure for the Straw Hat Pirates is already set. The inclusion of the Giants in Egghead has given confirmation that the next step in Luffy’s journey will take him to the famous Elbaf village, which has been a mystery for One Piece fans for almost 25 years.
As fans may have already figured out by observing the characters from Elbaf (the Giants), it is based on the Viking culture from Norse mythology. However, Oda once revealed his real inspiration behind the upcoming arc,...

"You really don't think I know you??" Another impressive short film that runs under 5 minutes. The Kid is the creation of a filmmaker named Vogue Giambri, and it was shot on location on St Marks Place in New York City. The short depicts a heated argument between a father and son and that's pretty much it - no other introduction is needed for this. Just watch below and enjoy The Kid. "We made this film with absolutely no money just pure passion and friendship. I wrote this because I didn't understand why I could feel so small and hysterical when visiting home even though I’m not a kid anymore and I grew up & moved on so much." Well that cuts deep. The film stars her actual 80 year old cousin Phillip Giambri, and Dion Costelloe as "the kid." There are so many emotions, and so much being said without being said,...

Atténtion! Atténtion! The latest Vidéo Club video is out and this one features French actress Léa Seydoux! The French YouTube channel Konbini posted their latest "Vidéo Club" promo following a celebrity through one of Paris' last video rental shops as they peruse the DVDs/Blu-rays and chat about their favorites. Léa Seydoux stops by this time as part of a promotion for her new French sci-fi romance film The Beast (watch the trailer) in which she co-stars with George MacKay. She's so passionate about all this great cinema! It's refreshing to hear! And I am glad she is also a fan of Xavier Dolan. Other films discussed: The Kid (1921), A Place in the Sun (1951), On Dangerous Ground (1951), Zazie dans le Métro (1960), Cronenberg's Naked Lunch (1991), Miyazaki's The Wind Rises (2013), and also defends the first Brian De Palma Mission: Impossible (1996) - which I also think is a great film. On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Ain’t It Just Like the Movies to Play Tricks When You’re Trying to Be So Quiet?
As if assembling the greatest songbook in the history of Western music through six decades (and counting!) of nonstop creative growth and experimentation wasn’t enough, Bob Dylan has made a surprisingly large impact on the world of film. In 1966, he helped launch the cinéma vérité movement — and captivated audiences with the mystery of who broke that fucking glass — by allowing D.A. Pennebaker to follow him for the landmark documentary “Don’t Look Back.

For Franz Kafka, it was The Kid. For Stanley Kubrick, it was the trailer to Eyes Wide Shut. But what about Cobain, Presley and Kennedy? Artist Stanley Schtinter talks us through his revelatory new project
Clad in black and wearing a cheeky-chappie grin, the artist and author Stanley Schtinter resembles Damon Albarn dressed as an undertaker. That suits his new book, Last Movies, which refracts cultural history through the prism of films watched by notable figures soon before their deaths. Stocking-fillers such as 1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die are 10 a penny, but this is a more profound proposition: 28 Movies They Saw Before They Died. Bette Davis, Charlie Parker and Steve Jobs are among the cinema-goers attending this last picture show, which mixes fact with scintillating speculation. What parallels might Kurt Cobain have drawn, for instance, between the life he was about to leave and The Piano, the last film he saw,...

Update: In celebration of Sam Raimi’s The Quick and the Dead being added to The Criterion Channel as part of this month’s Women of the West series, Sharon Stone is clarifying her involvement in some of the casting. The popular story is that Stone paid the salaries of her then-unknown co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, but on Instagram she’s saying that’s only partially true with her giving credit to producer Mike Medavoy for at least part of the casting.
“Yes, I paid @leonardodicaprio’s salary out of mine. No I didn’t pay @russellcrowe’s, but I did ask for the film to be delayed two weeks so we could get him here from Australia, and our producer @mikemedavoyup agreed to the delay. And to cover those expenses.”

Leonardo DiCaprio revealed to E! News that he has thanked Sharon Stone “many times” for paying his acting salary in 1995 when the studio refused to cast him in Sam Raimi’s revisionist Western drama “The Quick and the Dead.” DiCaprio was coming off his Oscar-nominated breakthrough role in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” at the time, and Stone was quite eager to work with the young star. She was adamant about casting DiCaprio and Russel Crowe in the film, and she was willing to pay for it.
“She said, ‘These are the two actors I want to work with,'” DiCaprio recalled. “It’s incredible. She’s been a huge champion of cinema and giving other actors opportunities, so I’m very thankful.”
“I’ve thanked her many times,” he added. “I don’t know if I sent her an actual, physical thank-you gift, but I cannot thank her enough.”

Back in 1992 Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson — who had met the University of Texas in Dallas and were roomies — decided to make a movie. But after spending $10,000 and shooting 13 minutes of the crime caper comedy “Bottle Rocket,” they ran out of money. Eventually, the short and the full script made its way to Oscar-winning writer/director/producer James L. Brooks. It just so happened that Columbia had a deal with Brooks to finance a low-budget film selected by the filmmaker. And in 1996, the feature-length version of “Bottle Rocket” was released with Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson and James Caan. Though the film didn’t set the box office on fire, critics realized Anderson was a new and exciting cinematic voice.
Anderson has made 11 feature films — his latest “Asteroid City” came out earlier this year — and has been nominated seven times for an Oscar including three for screenplay, two for animated features,...

The summer of Barbie just got its soundtrack. When the highly anticipated "Barbie" movie hits theaters on July 21, fans will also be able to blast "Barbie: The Album." On May 25, Atlantic Records announced news of the album, which will be released the same day as the film, also sharing some of the all-star artists who are featured, including Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Haim, Lizzo, K-pop group Fifty Fifty, and - perhaps most interestingly - Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the movie. These artists join pop star Dua Lipa (who plays a mermaid Barbie in the movie). Her "Barbie" song, "Dance the Night," dropped on May 26 with a vibrant, disco-themed music video.
Fans can preorder the "Barbie" album on its website right now, along with multiple special-edition vinyls and cassette tapes. Most of the album covers feature Margot Robbie as Barbie, lounging in her iconic bathing suit and sunglasses. The...

Toward the end of the Lucasfilm Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration, Kathleen Kennedy talked about how George Lucas's vision for "Star Wars" going forward was to explore the past, present, and future of the timeline and the universe. To that end, the television projects that were announced only mostly fit that bill. "The Acolyte" will take us deeper into the past of "Star Wars" than we've ever seen in live-action to the era of "The High Republic."

Hot on the heels of Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Oscar wins, A24 may be dipping back into the genre-bender well once more with disaster comedy Y2K.

Gordon T. Dawson, who parlayed a stint as a costumer for Sam Peckinpah into a career as a writer and producer with credits including The Ballad of Cable Hogue, The Rockford Files, Bret Maverick and Walker, Texas Ranger, has died. He was 84.
Dawson died March 6 in West Hills Hospital of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his family announced.
A former firefighter, Dawson spent three months in a Columbia Pictures basement using a blowtorch, paraffin and glue to age the principal soldier uniforms for the Peckinpah-directed Major Dundee (1965). When the extras’ costumes did not match the ones Dawson had prepared, Peckinpah shut down production on the first day of shooting.
Dawson was summoned to the set in Mexico to age the other costumes, noting in the 1993 documentary Sam Peckinpah: Man of Iron that he was “terrified” to meet the intimidating director. He needn’t have worried, though; Dawson fixed the other costumes,...

Justin Bieber’s face was left partially paralyzed in June 2022 after he was diagnosed with Ramsey Hunt Syndrome, a rare virus that affects nerves in the face and ear. The condition caused the pop star to halt his tour – which was later quietly canceled in its entirety – but if he ever decides to get back out on the road, it would be a missed opportunity to not include My World 2.0 single “U Smile” on the setlist.
On Wednesday, Bieber shared an update on how he is recovering from the syndrome via his Instagram Story.

The Kid Laroi has quite a few rock star couples to take inspiration from in his new visual. On Monday, the Australian singer released the video for “I Guess It’s Love?,” a satirical take on the life and relationships of an aging rock star.

The outlaw presented in this new Epix series doesn't come off as a hardened killer.
Instead, the Billy the Kid shown on Billy the Kid Season 1 Episode 1 was more of a reluctant gunman, doing just enough to keep ahead of those pursuing him.
Not that that made him any less deadly. It definitely made him a more sympathetic figure around which to build a series.
So did going back in time to see how a young Irish immigrant who loved his hardworking mother and invalid father became one of America's most-feared outlaws.
Like many immigrants, Billy's family, the McCartys, bought into the illusion of the American West being an Eden where anyone could get ahead if they worked hard enough.
Tenement neighbor Frank O'Connor spouted the government's propaganda to convince the McCartys to try their luck out West. Patrick had his doubts, but he could deny nothing to his persistent wife,...

Italian director, screenwriter and producer Marco Bellocchio has opened up about his career and upcoming projects during a masterclass at the 53rd edition of Visions du Réel, where he received an honorary award.
The 82-year-old master is guest of honor at the documentary film festival, which includes a retrospective of a dozen of his works and a screening of his latest film, “Marx Can Wait,” a documentary about his twin brother Camilo’s suicide in December 1968.
Featuring footage filmed during a family get-together, personal archive material and clips from his films, it is an intimate and poignant documentary that explores how his brother’s death deeply influenced Bellocchio’s work over the decades.
At the time, Bellocchio explained, “the revolution of ’68 was underway, there were protests and riots, and I said to myself ‘I have to do something.’ So in September, together with friends who had founded the Maoist movement,...

The Notebook Primer introduces readers to some of the most important figures, films, genres, and movements in film history. The Kid.For over a century, Charles Chaplin’s “Little Tramp” has been a global icon. His signifiers are simple: the derby hat and cane; the toothbrush mustache; the tight jacket and baggy trousers; the giant shoes. His significations, however—what the Tramp has meant to audiences around the world—have been profound. The most diminutive of men, the Tramp has had an outsized role in film history. Indeed, he is a portrait in paradoxes: a tragic-comic hobo-gentleman, flea-riddled but fastidious; a poet of pantomime, whose silence speaks volumes; a prat-falling klutz, who is the most graceful of danseurs; and a loner, who is worthier than most of human intimacy. Obtuse to the socioeconomic realities that structure his existence, he is an idealist hero akin to Don Quixote, as pointed out...

The 7th MipDrama ended on Sunday with German series “House of Promises” named as the winner of the Buyers’ Coup de Coeur Award. While the showcase received mixed reactions from the participants, gathered onsite in Cannes – with only Italy’s “Bangla” opting for a more humorous approach – the event marked a win for Finland’s Elisa Viihde, presenting “Evilside,” “Summer of Sorrow” and “The Invicibles” (with Viaplay also attached.)
It must be some kind of a record that three out of 10 series are from the same commissioning broadcaster,” said Sari Lempiäinen, executive producer at Elisa Viihde. “We are excited and proud, as all of them are unique and brilliant.”

When it comes to martial arts films, The Karate Kid was a game changer when it came out in 1984. Its lasting cultural impact was a landmark advancement for the western understanding of the martial arts. But was it a genuine representation of Karate?
Den of Geek consulted Dr. Hermann Bayer, an expert authority on Okinawan Karate and the author of the upcoming book Analysis of Genuine Karate―Misconceptions, Origin, Development, and True Purpose. Dr. Bayer remembers firsthand how The Karate Kid stimulated the Karate boom in the mid-eighties because he was a practicing Karateka then. But as a martial scholar, he’s pragmatic about his opinions.
“First and foremost, we have to bear in mind that we are talking about a movie, not about a documentation or a piece of research,” says Bayer. “This means that we need to concede that fascinating viewers by something pretty, amazing, or spectacular to...

In recent years, Major League Baseball has witnessed some of the best rookie campaigns in the game’s 150-plus year history. Each of the past three seasons featured the meteoric rise of a young superstar. In 2017 New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge entered his new chambers at Yankee Stadium and used his gavel to bash 52 home runs, a then rookie record. In 2018, Ronald Acuna unleashed his mix of power, speed, and swagger on the city of Atlanta and quickly became a Braves fan favorite, winning Rookie of the Year and setting himself up for a monster 2019 season that established him as a top-five player in the game. And in 2019 it was New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso who became an immediate star on and off the field as he topped Judge’s 2017 home run record by hitting 53 homers in his first big league season.

Like or loathe The Force Awakens, there’s no denying that at its heart, it’s very much a Jj Abrams movie. There are aspects of film and TV production that Abrams is generally acknowledged to excel at; likewise, there are elements for which he has repeatedly faced criticism over the years (insert tired, de rigueur joke about lens flare here. If. You. Must.). He’s great at world building - perhaps the most important element in establishing a new Star Wars trilogy is, y’know, making it feel like Star Wars. Sounds simple enough on paper but in a post-prequel world, we all now recognise that this seemingly simple hurdle is actually anything but. That said, Abrams did do an admirable job...

To some, the Christmas season is all about family, celebration, fun, presents, and the birth of Christ. Those are all important things, to be sure, but to me it just isn’t a proper Christmas unless I get to a specific batch of Christmas movies. Call it obsessive if you will, but tradition feels a bit more polite. My “traditional” Christmas flick picks are a tad on the eclectic side, ranging from wholesome classics to vulgar and violent. No matter what though, watching all five of them each December brings me immense joy. If they’re not part of your holiday viewing regimen, it might be time for you to start new Christmas traditions with these five movies.
1. Elf (2003)
Each year, director Jon Favreau’s holiday classic kicks off the Christmas season for my family. We always watch it the weekend after Thanksgiving as we decorate the inside of our house.

Icon Film Distribution and FrightFest have announced a further three films – all of which are personal faves of mine from this years festival – which will be released under the curated banner FrightFest Presents. The new titles are:
Night of the Living Deb, directed by Kyle Rankin starring Maria Thayer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Michael Cassidy (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), Christopher Marquette (Just Friends, The Girl Next Door) and Ray Wise (Infestation, Twin Peaks).
After a girls’ night out, endearingly awkward Deb wakes up in the apartment of the most attractive guy in Portland, Maine. She’s thrilled, but can’t remember much of what got her there. Ryan only knows it was a mistake, and ushers her out the door into a full-scale zombie apocalypse. Now, a walk of shame becomes a fight for survival as the mismatched pair discovers that the only thing scarier than trusting someone with your life…...

St. Vincent writer/director/producer Ted Melfi talks with Pete Hammond at Deadline’s The Contenders event about, literally, first having to track down the notoriously elusive Bill Murray.
That task behind him, Melfi then had to find, as he puts it in this video shot at Deadline’s Oscar showcase The Contenders, a kid who could stand up to Bill Murray. It took 1,600 candidates to find ‘The Kid,’ Jaeden Lieberher.
Other stars of the comedy, which came out last month, include Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts and Chris O’Dowd. Other producers were Peter Chernin, Fred Roos and Jenno Topping. The Weinstein Company is handling distribution.
The film, which cost an estimated $13 million to make, has grossed almost $34 million since its Oct. 10 release.
Did you see the movie? What did you think? Let us know.

After finding success at Disney with The National Treasure franchise, even though development on a third film in the franchise has been stagnant, director Jon Turteltaub is staying comfortable at the House of Mouse with a new project. In what seems like an effort to capitalize on the success of The Lego Movie, Disney has landed that film's producer Dan Lin to produce this project, but we hope this won't try to lazily replicate that film. "It's A Small World, After All! It's A Small World, After All!"
Remember when people initially chuckled at the idea of Disney turning its Pirates of The Caribbean ride into a movie? I'd say that one worked out for them. Then they did it again with their Haunted Mansion attraction. That one? Not so much. It turned a modest profit, but it didn't lead to much else. Well, now Disney is at it again. They're planning a feature film adaptation of their It's A Small World ride. That's not all. They've hired a director, and they intend this to be a franchise.
Jon Turteltaub, he of the National Treasure movies and last year's sleeper hit Last Vegas, has been tapped to helm It's A Small World. Deadline is reporting that he's also producing the film, along with Dan Lin of The Lego Movie. The move makes sense considering Turteltaub...

Oscar-nominated actor who brought sensitivity and warmth to her most famous role in Imitation of Life
From its earliest days, Hollywood, which has always lagged behind wider social advances, limited the roles of black actors to stock, wide-eyed cowards, simpletons or servants, often referred to as "uncles" and "mammies". Juanita Moore, who has died aged 99, suffered from this limitation by having to play maids throughout most of her long career. However, Moore could have echoed what Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American actor to win an Academy Award, once said: "Why should I complain about making $700 a week playing a maid? If I didn't, I'd be making $7 a week being one."
Where McDaniel as Mammy, Scarlett O'Hara's lovable, sassy servant in Gone With the Wind (1939) was the apotheosis of the black maid, Moore's Oscar-nominated portrayal of Annie Johnson, housekeeper to the glamorous Broadway star Lora Meredith (Lana Turner) in Douglas Sirk...
