Toronto Jazz is a short look at three jazz groups from the early 60s: the Lenny Breau Trio, The Don Thompson Quintet, and the Alf Jones Quartet. Scenes of them performing in a club are alternated with interviews of the musicians and shots of them practicing. While the form of the movie seems a little aimless and some of the interviews are somewhat less than compelling, the music is great and the shots of hem performing (and of the audience) are a blast. I was particularly impressed with guitarist Lenny Breau, and reading up on him discovered that he is considered to be something of an unsung genius who died too soon. I'll definitely be tracking down his music. Overall, a worthwhile film for jazz fans.
