The concept of platform exclusivity, once a cornerstone of gaming giants like Xbox and PlayStation, is facing a reckoning in 2024. Xbox’s recent decision to port previous first-party exclusives to competing platforms, and Helldivers 2, Arrowhead’s smash-hit co-op shooter, have become an unlikely symbol of change, sparking a critical conversation about the future of this practice.
Former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, Shawn Layden, recently weighed in on the exclusivity debate, and said that PlayStation may be shooting themselves in the foot.

New Switch games that are heavily influenced by the 16-bit era of gaming are something I will always get very very excited about. The 16-bit era and the Super Nintendo in particular is the time I started to really get into gaming and also my love of platformers.
Berserk Boy is a retro, but modern, action-platformer for fans of the Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it never feels like it is copying either. Berserk Boy is very much its own thing.
As a fan of Mario games, a good story is not something I really need to enjoy a game but Berserk Boy does have a fun one. It goes like this. “In the distant future, a mad scientist and his army of darkness seek to enslave the people of Earth. Hope for all humanity rests with The Resistance, but are they enough? Enter Kei, a rookie...

Sega and Paramount have made a Sonic The Hedgehog spin-off television series called Knuckles, here’s the trailer.
Sonic The Hedgehog is among the top selling video game franchises of all time. Launching on the Sega Mega Drive in 1991, the blue Hedgehog with super speed has graced countless video games, and after a failed attempt to make an animated film in the 1990s, he finally made a very successful leap to the big screen in 2020. Voiced by Ben Schwartz, it saw him go up against his arch nemesis Dr. Robotnik, played with maniacal relish by Jim Carrey. After being teased at the end of the first film, the 2022 sequel introduced Tails and Knuckles, voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba.
News landed recently that the third film will see Carrey reprise his role, despite his previous assertion that he was retiring, with Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas,...

You've seen these super-powered critters save the world a time or two, but what America and the world at large really want to know is ... what do they do on their day off? Apparently, for alien heroes with a taste for battle, that involves makeshift gladiatorial arenas and a never-ending quest for vengeance. That's courtesy of the popular breakout character from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," which featured Idris Elba's dulcet tones as the voice of Knuckles. Now, ahead of this year's release of the third "Sonic" film, everybody's favorite red echidna is getting his own spin-off series titled, fittingly enough, "Knuckles."
The much more serious-minded character was a natural choice to expand the "Sonic" universe in live-action, but Paramount threw everyone a curveball when it was announced that the "Knuckles" spinoff would take the form of a streaming series on Paramount+. But if it wasn't already clear before, it...

You gotta go fast when you’re building a franchise, and Paramount Pictures has been moving like a speedy blue blur in racing out its live-action spinoff series of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film, “Knuckles.”
“Knuckles” will bridge the gap between “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and the upcoming third film, and this series gives a look into the adventures of the red, punch-happy Echidna warrior Knuckles, with Idris Elba reprising his voice role from the second film.
Ahead of a Super Bowl spot that will air during the CBS and Nickelodeon broadcasts (Knuckles and friends will even make an appearance during the kids’ version) of the big game, Paramount+ has dropped the first trailer for “Knuckles” and announced all episodes of the series will be available to stream in the U.S. and Canada beginning April 26. It will hit additional territories the following day and Japan later this year.

Soon it will be Paramount+ & Knuckles, as the streamer released the first trailer for its spinoff series of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films on Thursday morning. “Knuckles” sees Idris Elba return to voice the eponymous grumpy echidna, introduced as Sonic’s foe-turned-friend in the second “Hedgehog” entry.
Billed as “the latest in the cinematic world of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog,'” the first look also comes with the news that the entire series — totaling six episodes — will debut simultaneously on Paramount+ in North America on April 26. Additional territories will follow on April 27, with a Japan release slated for later on this year.
Paramount Pictures and Sega of America plan to give fans an additional look at “Knuckles” during Super Bowl Lviii on Sunday, when a TV spot will debut during the game. The character of Knuckles is also set to make a “surprise appearance” during Nickelodeon’s specialized live broadcast of football’s biggest night.

Media adaptations of beloved video game franchises have turned out to be the next big thing, as proven by the success of the Sonic movies, HBO’s The Last of Us series, Netflix’s Arcane, and so on and so forth. Partly due to the producers finally acknowledging the potential of video game narratives, and mostly due to assistance from creators who are passionate about the source material, fans have been catered to with faithful retellings of their favorite video game storylines. Unfortunately, fans of the iconic interplanetary sci-fi game series Halo cannot claim to have enjoyed the first season of Paramount+’s small-screen adaptation of the game series, which, in an effort to carve out its own place, became a far cry from the original saga.

Krysten Ritter will join Jim Carrey and several other humans in the animated videogame tie-in sequel, Sonic The Hedgehog 3.
Work on Sonic The Hedgehog 3 – the sequel to 2022’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is in turn a sequel to 2020’s surprise hit Sonic The Hedgehog – continues apace. Over the weekend, the videogame tie-in got a logo reveal as well as the not-entirely-surprising news that Jim Carrey is to reprise his role as Dr Robotnik.
The animated Sega sequel has recently had some more familiar actor names added to its cast, though, with IGN reporting that Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernandez and Jorma Taccone have all joined the line-up.
Ritter is perhaps best known for the title role in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and it’s rumoured that she’ll be immersing herself in the plum role of Rouge the Bat in Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

We haven’t seen the last of Dr. Robotnik.
Jim Carrey will reprise his role as the mad scientist with the formidable facial hair in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” The news comes despite the fact that (and here there be spoilers) the second film in the series ended with Dr. Robotnik falling from a giant robot to the ground below, a potentially fatal tumble. In the film’s post-credits scene, however, it is revealed that Dr. Robotnik’s body has not been found, setting the stage for Sonic’s main antagonist to make a dramatic return.
The combined global box office for “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” stands at $725.2 million, hence the enthusiasm of Paramount, the studio behind the video game adaptations, for another installment in the franchise. Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we–in partnership with global creator company Air Media-Tech–profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each creator has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments here.
As you probably know, our YouTube Millionaires series generally spotlights creators who have recently (or recently-ish) hit one million subscribers on YouTube. But very occasionally, we profile creators hitting bigger milestones. This is one of those weeks, and we’re checking in with Nick Pro, a parkour master whose recreations of major movie stunts have helped bring him more than 10 million subscribers on YouTube and just over one million followers on TikTok.
Pro’s interest in cinematic parkour didn’t stem from a childhood spent doing gymnastics or martial arts. Instead, it was prompted by a YouTube video and a dumb idea.

Calling the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” a testament to video-game IP would be a disservice to Illumination and Nintendo. Universal confirmed that it grossed $454 million worldwide in its first week and the Mario movie achieved something that even HBO’s “The Last of Us” did not: It’s a four-quadrant success.

It’s a rare movie that attracts both kid-friendly crowds and nostalgic adults, that played for all genders and ethnicities, and performed strongly across international markets, and that made it the biggest worldwide animated opening of all time.

Nicolas Cage as Dracula is grabbing all the headlines for director Chris McKay's vampire horror/comedy "Renfield," and deservedly so. But while Nicholas Hoult acquits himself very well as the subservient title character with pitch-perfect comedic timing and Cage steals the show through his penchant for hamming it up, Ben Schwartz also shines as the picture's secondary, foul-mouthed antagonist: a mobster named Teddy Lobo who gets himself mixed up in the Dracula and Renfield drama.

Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a new series, Sonic Prime, set to debut on Netflix in 2022! It’s very exciting news for fans of Sega’s most popular character but buried in the press release is a detail that might make this the most way past cool Sonic series of all time. From the press release synopsis of the story,

The release of a new international trailer for Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog movie has seen excitement for the video game adaptation soar to all new heights over the last 24 hours.
The film, which has pulled through a troubled several months following the overwhelmingly negative reception Sonic’s original design received, has regained some goodwill from fans of the lightning-fast hedgehog recently for committing to a total redesign. The general consensus on Sonic’s new look has been outwardly positive, but even that enthusiasm pales in comparison to Baby Sonic’s instant rise fo fame.
The Mandalorian‘s Baby Yoda now has some competition in the cute department, it would seem. Check out some of the early reactions to Sonic’s younger self below:

I recently did a list of 1980s cartoons that I thought a lot of people had forgot about. Our readers really seemed to like it, and I know a lot of our readers grew up in the 1990s, so I thought I'd put together a list of animated series from that decade that you might not remember. We all have our favorites, like Batman: The Animated Series, Animanicas, X-Men, Spawn, and Gargoyles, but there are some cartoons that may have just slipped through the cracks of our minds. Just because these series are on the list doesn't mean they were bad shows. Although some of them definitely were.
Sonic Underground
Not only was this series poorly made, but it had a pretty awful theme song. The story is set in a completely different canon than any of the other Sonic the Hedgehog media. The ruler of Mobius, Queen Aleena, is overthrown by Dr.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be racing back to airwaves in 2014 with a new show on Cartoon Network. Tentatively titled Sonic Boom, the show will also air on the French children’s networks Canal J and Gulli in Europe.
Sonic Boom is being produced by Sega of America and French animation company Genao Productions. Similar to popular Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show, Boom will consist of fifty-two, eleven minute episodes. As one would expect, the show focuses on Sonic and friends foiling the nefarious schemes of one Dr. Eggman, aka Dr. Robotnik.
No footage of the show has been released yet, but we do have the teaser image posted above. From what we can tell, Sonic Boom will focus on Tails, Sonic, Amy and what appears to be Knuckles, if he decided to start cultivating mass. No word yet on whether or not the likes of Espio the Chameleon,...
