It Don't Cost Nothing' to Say Good Morning (1994) : tingtong123abc

One of my favourite short Independent Canadian films, created by Canadian legends Kenny Hotz and Spenny Rice. Following the daily life of a homeless man named Gordy. The film shows locals talking about Gordy, how they know him and details about his life.

There is an important message to this film and it happens early on, Gordy says the title of the movie "It Don't Cost Nothing' to Say Good Morning". He says this in reference to rich people being out of touch and not being able to take their money with them when they die.

*SPOILER ALERT* The films tragic ending explains how Gordy died.

Overall this movie was a heartfelt tribute to Gordy, the alcoholic midget from Canada with a happier outlook on life than most of us.

Kenny Hotz - Director, cinematographer, editor. 18 min./16mm, B&W) "It Don't Cost Nothing' To Say Goodmorning" is an internationally-acclaimed documentary that captures the life and death of Toronto's most famous homeless man. 'Shorty' Gordy was a foul-mouthed, drunken, dwarf panhandler, loved and hated in Canada's wealthiest neighborhood where he was born, and where he would die a destitute tramp. Filmed over several years, the film captures Gordy's derelict life and ends with his death. Beautifully shot, bleak, but also funny, the film premiered in the Palm Springs Film Festival, Cinéfest, The Worldwide Short Film Festival. Nominated for best short at "Hot Docs Film Festival." The film's print resides in the Ontario Provincial Archives.
