With Eille Norwood as Sherlock Holmes and Hubert Willis as Dr. Watson in this tight little 2-reeler. Holmes and Watson are brought to Hurlstone Manor by Reginald Musgrave (Geoffrey Wilmer) to look into the disappearance of his butler. Various clues suggest the butler's disappearance is somehow related to the "Musgrave ritual," an arcane practice compelling young Musgrave family members to recite an odd riddle that might have to do with buried treasure. Holmes's methodical approach to the problem as always is a lot of fun. Sharp print from the British Film Institute. Thank god for film festivals like this one that make rare films like this available and the folks who provide comments to IMDB for others to share. Please support the IMDB and early film festivals!
