She may still be alive and kicking but the ultimate Lucky Star Madonna is all set to get her very own biopic after Universal has picked up Elyse Hollander’s script which takes the title from the megastar’s 1990 world tour Blond Ambition.
The story, which is to be set in early 80’s New York, will see Madonna Louise Ciccone working on her first album, struggling in a business that treats women badly, while also dealing with a burgeoning love life and the first hints of fame.
Only last year, Hollander’s script topped the 2016 Black List, the industry ranking that tracks Hollywood’s most-liked unproduced screenplays so it was only a matter of sitting back and waiting for the right (or best) offer to land in her hands and it couldn’t much bigger than Universal. Considering this is Hollander’s debut script after working alongside Alejandro G.

Universal Pictures is set to produce a biopic based on the early life and career of Madonna called Blond Ambition. The script for the film comes from Elyse Hollander and it was on the 2016 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. THR offers the following info on the story:

After failing at a rock band, she switched to dance and pop. After achieving some success with a few dance singles, she began work on her debut album, Madonna, which was released in 1983. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Bebe Rexha got some serious kudos from pop royalty at the VMAs. Britney Spears took the stage with G-Eazy Sunday night in New York, where she performed a mash-up of their current single "Make Me..." and the rapper's breakout hit, "Me, Myself & I," with Spears singing the infectious hook made famous by Rexha. Judging by her reaction on social media, rising star Rexha, 26, was as surprised as the rest of the audience at Madison Square Garden, posting the wide-eyed and blushing "flushed" emoji on Twitter just moments after the performance. They say that when you play the Game of Thrones, “you win or you die”. The Game of Jeff Daniels, however, is an undeniably different beast and for the most part is a definite “you win or you win”. After viewing dozens of Jeff Daniels movies and spending many, many hours with his on-screen personas, it’s fair to say that the maxim has been sorely tested but guess what? It still holds true. This list has been carefully curated to celebrate the veteran actor’s talent, versatility and wit and no matter which (if any) of these movies you decide to revisit or check out for the first time, Jeff is guaranteed to give you something to love in each and every one.

The first performers for the 2015 Grammy Awards ceremony have been announced. Eric Church, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Madonna and AC/DC will all be hitting the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 8. Of those announced, three are up for awards. Eric Church has four noms including best Country Album; Grande is up for two including Best Pop Album; and Sheeran is in the running for three including vaunted Album Of The Year. Madonna -- as you'll remember -- crashed the Grammys last year, too, to help preside over the gay wedding sequence of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" performance with HitFix fave vocalist Mary Lambert. She is releasing album "Rebel Heart" this winter. AC/DC was among the "huh, what?" contingency of the recently announced Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival lineup. There is some conjecture that their resurgence at major fests and now the Grammys equals a "farewell" announcement.

You probably recognize Mary Lambert from her history-making moment at this year's Grammys, when she sang her part on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "Same Love" as Madonna and Queen Latifah presided over 33 gay and straight weddings. Now, Mary is striking out on her own with the release of her first studio album, Heart on My Sleeve. The soulful singer has already built a devoted fan base with her unabashedly honest lyrics and powerful voice - watch our interview to learn more about this pop star on the verge.

Los Angeles - Mary Lambert has a little boast, for always, at every family reunion. "'Oh, your cousin went to Dartmouth? Well, I sang with Madonna at the Grammys.'" It's been a whirlwind of a year for the singer, who holds down the hook on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love." Lambert stopped by the HitFix video studios for our premiere episode of HitFix Mix, our music interview and mixtape show. "I have different little life-hacks," Mary Lambert explained how she keeps her head together. This is an artist who called her forthcoming album "Heart On My Sleeve." And her new single "Secrets," in which she reveals personal "secrets" like having bipolar disorder. And her live show is deeply intimately vulnerable. "There's a series of things I do before... a complete meltdown." Take a deep breath, collect yourself, and watch our abridged chat, above. This show aims to have in-depth interviews with artists,...

People might love a good overnight success story, but in truth, Mary Lambert's isn't one. The 25-year-old was well known in the spoken-word poetry scene - even performing on an HBO special as a teen - and had been independently releasing her own music before fellow Seattleites Macklemore and Ryan Lewis asked her to pen the hook to what would become their radio hit "Same Love." Of course, the mainstream ode to marginalized romance propelled her to a new kind of fame, the kind that culminates in a surreal mass wedding presided over by Queen Latifah and Madonna at the VMAs. Now, with her first full-length studio album, Heart on My Sleeve, on the verge of release, Mary is in a position to spread her gospel of self-acceptance to an even wider audience. She has always mined her own experiences, both painful and redemptive, in her bluntly confessional - but ultimately hopeful - music.

As the democratization of film has made it possible for just about anyone to make a film, it has conversely made it more difficult for the individual filmmaker and his or her films to stand out. Online content platforms now offer a hundred times more films in their catalogs then the films cataloged by IMDb from the inception of film (1,764,727 titles as of 14 Jan 2011). So despite assertions to the contrary, branding is more important than ever.

Mary Lambert captivated the world when she was featured in the incredibly huge hit "Same Love" with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. That one song changed her life forever. She performed at the VMAs alongside Jennifer Hudson and at the Grammys with the legendary Madonna. It's baffling to think that just a year earlier, she was a struggling bartender in Seattle. We caught up with Mary at Napa, CA's Live in the Vineyard music festival, and we've gotta say, it was an honor to meet her. Her songs and words touched our hearts, and we're sure you'll feel the same way. Keep your eye on Mary, because she is about to blow up even more.

The directorial career of Madonna Louise Ciccone, aka Madonna, hasn't lacked on ambition. She made her debut on the grimy "Filth & Wisdom" before doing a 180 and helming the period romance "W.E." Unfortunately, neither effort particularly tracked well with audiences or critics, but that won't stop Madge. She's preparing to get behind the camera, and frankly, it's a welcome career move if only to keep her from posting more selfies to Instagram. Anyway, THR reports that Madonna is slated to direct an adaptation of "Adé," the debut novel by Rebecca Walker, the daughter of famed author Alice Walker. And you might not be shocked to learn that this one features sex, religion, feminism, lesbianism and more in the mix of themes, so it's right up Madonna's alley of hot button topics she tends to gravitate towards. Here's the Amazon synopsis: When Farida, a sophisticated college student, falls in love with Adé,...

Here comes the bride? John Mayer and Katy Perry have been dogged by engagement rumors for nearly as long as they've been a couple—and here's something that won't help! Count Perry among the Keith Urban types who got misty-eyed during the mass wedding that took place last night at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed "Same Love" with Mary Lambert, during which they were joined by Madonna, who finished with "Open Your Heart." Queen Latifah officiated the diverse round of I-dos, which included couples of varying ages, some heterosexual and some same-sex unions. But Perry didn't just cheer along—she was an...

The 56th Grammy Awards are in the books and the special moments created throughout the show will surely last for years to come. The performances shined brighter than any award could, with some bringing viewers to tears.
Everyone has their favorites, and those they didn't really care for. Follow with Zap2it as we recount the night's performances, from best to worst.
Mackemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Queen Latifah and Madonna
A performance of their hit "Same Love" wasn't enough. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis included an appearance by Madonna and, more importantly, a mass wedding. In all, 33 couples were wed, including Lewis' sister and her fiance, creating one of the most special moments in Grammy history.
Pink and Nate Ruess
Pink was simply amazing. She did her aerial acrobatics, sounded strong and was truly one of the best entertainers of the night. The only downside of her performance was Ruess from the band Fun.

Grammys 2014: Queen Latifah, Ryan Lewis share personal connection to Macklemore 'Same Love' weddings
It was undoubtedly one of the biggest moments of 56th Grammy Awards when, during Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' performance of the equal rights anthem "Same Love," Queen Latifah took the stage to perform a giant wedding ceremony with 33 gay and straight couples.
It was heartfelt and moving, to be sure, but as Lewis and Latifah share, it was a moment that had a more personal connection than you may know.
"To be up here, and more importantly, to be able to celebrate 'Same Love' and have the marriages on stage," Lewis tells reporters backstage at the Staples Center on Sunday (Jan. 26). "You know, my sister getting married tonight as well."
"I still have chills now. I'm excited to watch it back," he continues. "It was amazing to work with Madonna, to work with Queen Latifah. Two legends. ... We're just grateful to be here." (Madonna joined the trio, along with "Same Love" vocalist Mary Lambert,...

It’s hard to believe in the sanctity of the Grammys when it’s possible to have, like, 17 of them. (Ahoy, Beyonce.) Katharine Hepburn didn’t have 17 Oscars. Hell, we’re on the fence about giving Meryl a fourth. But if you stick around long enough and maintain a baseline level of radio palatability, you’re likely to pick up a trophy every couple of years. Sheryl Crow has nine, you know what I mean?
But even if you’re a major skeptic, you couldn’t have hated too many of the chosen winners from the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. I, for one, relished in Kathy Griffin‘s first win for Best Comedy Album. The woman is an unstoppable force of neurotic, popcult nerd flavor, and she remains as audacious now as she was when she outlasted Stephen Baldwin on Celebrity Mole: Hawaii.

Music's Biggest Night took place live on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and was broadcast in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network. The 56th Annual Grammy Awards are produced by Aeg Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. One of the most noteworthy Grammy performances this year featured Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Madonna, Queen Latifah, Trombone Shorty, and the marriage of 33 diverse couples in a celebration of love and tolerance. In truth, the GRAMMYs are always a great marriage — of music, entertainment and the recognition of the year's best artistry. But this year, it was also a marriage of Daft Punk, producer Pharrell Williams, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Grammy voters as the Edm and rap duos and...

In total, 34 pairs of spouses said “I Do” while the “Thrift Shop” hitmakers performed their song “Same Love” with the help of Mary Lambert, Madonna, Madonna and Trombone Shorty.

Sure, there are awards handed out at the Grammys. But the real fun comes in seeing who takes the stage - and how they work it. Beyoncé and Jay Z set the bar high with their hot "Drunk in Love" duet, and Katy Perry put on a creepy-chic performance of "Darkhorse." John Legend slowed things down with his goosebump-inducing "All of Me" (which he wrote for Chrissy Teigen and performed at their September wedding). Madonna took to the red carpet at the 2014 Grammys on Sunday night in a predictably unique ensemble – complete with a grill in her mouth.

Madonna, 55, brought along her youngest son, David Banda, as her date for the annual music event. David wore a black tux, tie and fedora. At David’s request, Madonna dressed to match, wearing a double-breasted tuxedo jacket, flared black pants, tie and wide-brimmed hat.
Taking her look to another level, Madonna accessorized with a single sparkly glove, a cane and a gold grill. On the red carpet, Madonna was asked about the metal mouth accessory by Ryan Seacrest.
"Yeah, I'm grillin'. It pisses everybody off when I wear my grill, so that's why I wear it,” she explained. "[I wear it] when it matches my outfit. When I don't have to eat. Actually, I've learned to eat with my grill in."

During the 56th annual Grammy Awards, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert performed "Same Love," eventually joined by Madonna, turning it into a mash-up with "Open Your Heart," while Queen Latifah performed a wedding ceremony for 34 same-sex couples on stage.
It was a beautiful moment, leaving nary a dry eye in the house or at home. And while we weren't surprised at all to see many celebs wiping away tears, as both country music and "American Idol" fans, we loved seeing Keith Urban as one of those people tearing up. All together now: awwwww.
Urban also took to the stage for the 2014 Grammys, when earlier in the night he performed new song "Cop Car," the third single off his 2014 album "Fuse," with Gary Clark Jr. Video of that performance below.

Whoo boy. We waited all night for the much-hyped Mackledonna wedding cermony, where Queen Latifah would marry a slew of gay and straight couples as "Same Love" played. Well, it happened. Madonna appeared with white cane, deciding against singing Mary Lambert's second verse, but instead her own song, "Open Your Heart," because Madonna has her own gay-marriage song thank-you-very-much. It was something. Watch it below.
