We’re less than a month away from one of WWE’s biggest events ever. But tensions started to rise even before the final showdown. Recently, Amanda Huber, wife of the late Aew star Jon Huber (Brodie Lee), called out Dwayne Johnson for his insensitive comment on Cody Rhodes.
Dwayne Johnson (via his X account)
Huber, who works with Aew as a community outreach coordinator, criticized Johnson for talking about Rhodes’ age gap with his siblings when The Rock’s own kids have a 20-year difference.
Simone is Johnson’s eldest child, born in 2001 to his former wife, Dany Garcia. His youngest daughter, Tiana Gia Johnson, was born in 2018.

WWE Monday Night Raw kicked off this week by addressing The Rock’s challenge from SmackDown. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins focused on taking down The People’s Champion, which also came with a big announcement.
Rollins hurt his knee in a match against Jinder Mahal on the Jan. 15 episode of WWE Raw. He was in pain after a move landed awkwardly.

Still, Rollins managed to finish the match and retain his championship by pinning Mahal. However, due to his injury, the 37-year-old had to skip some live events.
Now, he has received full medical clearance. He confirmed his appearance on SmackDown this week to confront the Bloodline, stating he’s prepared and ready for action.
Despite facing an injury, Rollins is determined to confront Johnson and his cousin alongside Cody Rhodes, showing his refusal to take the easier path.

Ever since Dwayne Johnson returned to the ring in the WWE earlier this year, the brand as well as the WWE Universe have been eating well with what The Rock is cooking up for the future, more specifically, for the upcoming WrestleMania Xl.
It’ll be the place where the heated rivalry between Johnson and WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes will settle the bad blood that’s been boiling between them.
Dwayne Johnson at Monday Night Raw
But until that eventual showdown finally arrives, the star is doing all he can to hype their match-up as much as possible, which, combined with his heel phase, results in the athlete running wild. Thus, to further promote this rivalry, Johnson has harnessed the power of memes into his merch and made fun of Rhodes getting slapped by him with the classic Batman Slaps Robin meme.

As seen on a recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Cody Rhodes sparked controversy by giving up his WrestleMania 40 main event spot to The Rock, leading to significant backlash. However, the storyline took an unexpected twist during the WrestleMania 40 kickoff press conference, adding substantial drama to the situation. Interestingly enough, a real-life Bloodline member predicts a tragic outcome for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
Cody Rhodes
Fans are eager to witness The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at some point, but they certainly didn’t want it to come at the expense of Cody Rhodes’ storyline. Initially, it appeared that way on Friday Night SmackDown, but fortunately, things have taken a positive turn for the better at WrestleMania 40. With that said, fans should temper their expectations as well.

In a recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Cody Rhodes stirred controversy by relinquishing his WrestleMania 40 main event spot to The Rock, resulting in considerable backlash. In fact, Rhodes finishing his story was almost derailed because of The Rock wanting to get more hate from fans.

Cody Rhodes, the two-time Royal Rumble winner, is currently riding high with his elevation to the main event of WrestleMania 40. Originally, his match against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship wasn’t a part of the plan, as the ‘Tribal Chief’ was scheduled to face The Rock.

However, due to overwhelming backlash from the WWE Universe and immense support for Cody, WWE was compelled to rearrange the match against Reigns. This underscores that ‘The American Nightmare’ is currently the most beloved WWE performer and it appears he got some unexpected support for standing up against The Rock.

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Tommaso Ciampa def. Finn Bálor The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano took out an interfering Damian Priest, Johnny Wrestling grabbed Bálor’s feet as he was suplexing his opponent back into the ring. This helped Ciampa fall onto the Judgment Day Superstar and pick up the three-count. As a result, #DIY moved one step closer to an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title opportunity.
My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Kofi Kingston vs. Ludwig Kaiser (Double Count-Out) The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One week after Giovanni Vinci’s injury, a match between Ludwig Kaiser and Kofi Kingston ended in a double count-out. Although Kingston initiated a post-match brawl, Kaiser struck with a thumb to the eye.

New hands are at the helm for a knowingly intelligent reboot of the 1978 masterpiece
In his brilliant turn-of-the-century documentary The American Nightmare, Adam Simon located John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween as the end point of a decade of countercultural horror movies. Starting with George Romero’s 1968 Night of the Living Dead, Simon unpicked the rebellious socio-political threads of films such as Last House on the Left, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Shivers before arriving at the more conservative inflections of Carpenter’s ruthlessly efficient modern morality tale.
A stylishly suspenseful thriller in which teenagers indulging in illicit sex and intoxication are stalked and slashed by a relentless killer, Halloween was a funhouse ride with a puritanical narrative edge. Yet it also had a punky power that inspired a slew of titillating teen-terror slashers. Friday the 13th may have lifted its gory riffs from Mario Bava’s A Bay of Blood...

For many comic book fans Watchmen should be an untouchable work of art that is not interfered with by anyone. So the simple concept of Doomsday Clock will be too much to get beyond. DC has already shown they do not share that same mantra as we have already gotten the much-maligned Before Watchmen series and ever since the DC Rebirth began hints were being made that the world of DC comics proper and Watchmen will be colliding. Now that collision has officially started with the release of Doomsday Clock #1.
Cynical reaction to this idea is understandable, however from the start it is clear writer Geoff Johns is looking to do more than seeing what would happen if Doctor Manhattan and Superman got into a fight. Watchmen forever changed the landscape of comics with ripple effects the size...

Should there be a 'ground zero' of knowledge for movie criticism? And what makes a critic effective at their job?
When I sat down to watch It Follows for the first time at the start of last year, I had no idea what I was getting. I'm increasingly an avoider of trailers, and try as much as possible to see films cold. It doesn't always work, but in the case of It Follows, it very much did.
As I’ve written before, the film had a very primal effect on me, in that it had me backing further and further into my seat, genuinely unnerved and more than a little scared by what was happening on screen. I hadn't felt like that watching a film for a long time, and my eventual write-up reflected that. Aside from the subtexts of the movie, which I, in truth, only came to later,...

Wgn America is the network that picked up "Ten Commandments," the 10-part scripted series for which filmmakers like Gus Van Sant and Lee Daniels will each direct an hourlong episode offering a contemporary story inspired, "The Decalogue"-style, by one of the commandments. But first comes the network's initial foray into original drama -- "Salem," a period drama created by Adam Simon ("The American Nightmare") and Brannon Braga ("Terra Nova") premiering Sunday, April 20th. Set during the Salem witch trials, the series posits that there were indeed witches in the Puritan settlement, but they weren't the ones being burned. Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe and Xander Berkeley star -- check out the trailer below.

Primer director Shane Carruth returns with the sci-fi drama Upstream Color. Here's Ryan's review of a disturbing, hypnotic film...
In an interview for the 2000 documentary The American Nightmare, director Tobe Hooper talked about how he used images and music to create the palpable sense of fear in his most famous film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
"I intended it to wheedle its way into the unconscious mind," Hooper said, "where the nightmares are. It leaves a harmonic hanging there, buzzing in your head. That's mixed with another little nasty [sound] that sits there and quivers with the other one. And if you can get enough of these things going, and then you slam the door, it takes on a whole different tone."
Upstream Color isn't a horror film, but its use of imagery and sound to create an almost nightmarish sense of tension is something Hooper would probably admire.

Horror stories that are grounded in reality, and yet not bound by rules … these inspire Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe (The Haunting in Connecticut). And it’s what they appreciate about Seed, a powerful and terrifying novel written by Ania Ahlborn. Simon and Metcalfe have been selected by Amazon Studios to adapt Seed for the screen.
“Ania’s character insight and scenic eye managed to do what few horror writers even attempt, let alone succeed at – and that is, create a fictional world we instantly recognize as our own, as true,” Simon said. “Like Stephen King and a handful of Horror masters, she knows that writing great horror fiction is like directing lightning – your pole’s gotta be grounded.”
Seed was added to the Amazon Studios development slate last year, and Ahlborn says the experience has been “nothing but awesome.” And she’s a fan of Simon and Metcalfe. “I...

With the advent of DVD and now BluRay, we’ve all been bombarded with film documentaries that parallel our taste in entertainment. Most of these are Epk types that really do nothing more than promote their subject. Not so much a documentary as they are a commercial, most of the modern clip shows are forgettable popcorn pieces that exist just to compliment the films you’ve already seen. These ‘talking head’ movies make up most Special Features and usually have nothing new to say. They’re fun, but like I said, forgettable.
That’s why I was surprised by Andrew Monument’s “Nightmares in Red, White, and Blue.”
I expected an hour and a half of a clip show but found myself really getting into its historical arrangement. “Nightmare” traces the American horror film from its earliest influences in European films to its first successes in America.
With the advent of DVD and now BluRay, we’ve all been bombarded with film documentaries that parallel our taste in entertainment. Most of these are Epk types that really do nothing more than promote their subject. The enigma of spontaneous human combustion (Shc) is considered the most bizarre and frightening of all the phenomena in the world of the unexplained and the unknown. Some believe that stories of Shc are only urban legends, eerie tales of people bursting into flames that never really happened to real people. But this is not the case. Urban legends happen to a friend of a friend, but are really untraceable back to any true original narrator of the event. In the case of spontaneous human combustion, one is left with the charred remains and ashes of individuals who were once fully living, breathing, feeling human beings. [Unexplainedstuff.com]

IFC continues to do themselves proud. They seem to have a love of quality film that is not constrained by genre. My first real experience with them was when they aired the horror themed documentary The American Nightmare over the Halloween season years ago. I was blown away and gained huge respect for the company. I still watch it every now and then to remind myself how good horror can be.
As announced recently IFC will be distributing the french zombie film The Horde and now have added two more foreign horror flicks to their catalog, this time both originating from Spain.
The films are Manuel Carballo’s supernatural chiller Exorcismus and Miguel Ángel Vivas’ home-invasion flick Kidnapped. Both films will be released through the IFC Midnight label theatrically and on its video-on-demand platform in early 2011.
