[The following story contains spoilers from the film Tár.]
Well before Todd Field’s Tár opened in Thailand, I got my first review of the film from my friend, director Paul Spurrier. Paul had seen the film while in Los Angeles for the American Film Market.
“So we have here a mad genius conductor, who is kicked out of a major European orchestra after an act of violence, has rather ambiguous dealings with some young prodigies, ends up in Southeast Asia conducting a youth orchestra in a tawdry venue …,” he began.
“Oh!” I said, “You went to a screening of our film?” Because Paul was giving me the exact plot of our own film, The Maestro: A Symphony of Terror, a horror fantasy we made two years ago, which I wrote and starred in as the aforementioned “mad genius” conductor.
“Actually, no,” he said. “I just saw Tár.”

Westworld actor Ed Harris will succeed the departing Jeff Daniels in Broadway’s record-breaking To Kill A Mockingbird in November.
Though an announcement from producers has not been made, The New York Times reported the news based on information contained in an ad set to run Sunday in the newspaper.
Daniels is set to conclude his run as Atticus on Nov. 3, completing his year with the production, with Harris taking over Nov. 5.
The critically praised hit play, adapted by Aaron Sorkin from Harper Lee’s classic novel, opened in December and has been playing to sold-out audiences ever since.
Daniels was Tony-nominated for his role as Atticus Finch (Network‘s Bryan Cranston took the trophy). A touring production of the play starring Richard Thomas will launch in August 2020.
Harris was Tony-nominated for his Broadway role in 1986’s Precious Sons. He also appeared in the 1996 Broadway production of Taking Sides.

All Jacqueline Laurita wanted to do was sit down and talk to Teresa Giudice one-on-one.
The 46-year-old Housewife made that point very clear to Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Siggy Flicker and Dolores Catania, as the ladies gathered together at Rails Stake House in New Jersey for a lunch intended to bring the former friends back together.
She was able to do that immediately with Catania — as the two ladies quietly talked and immediately put their misunderstanding from last week behind them.

Insults and accusations are expected whenever the Real Housewives revisit the previous season, but none have been as damning as the claim Teresa Giudice appears to have made at the Real Housewives of New Jersey upcoming reunion.
In the supertease for the two-part season 7 closer, Giudice claims Jacqueline Laurita and Rhonj alum Caroline Manzo were behind the government’s investigation into her family’s finances — a case that led the Turning Tables author and her husband Joe, both 44, to be charged with 41 counts of mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud.

Jacqueline Laurita has cut ties with Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga on this season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. And now it looks like her friendship with Dolores Catania might be in trouble too.
At the end of Sunday’s all new episode, Catania told Housewife Siggy Flicker why she’s no longer speaking to her friend. And it all has to do with a damming accusation Laurita made to Catania over the phone after a “Ladies Night” event Catania hosted at her gym.

Going into Sunday's episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, fans expected major drama between longtime friends Teresa Giudice and Jacqueline Laurita – who had come to blows weeks prior in a bitter feud over past hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
But despite a preview for the episode that showed an angry Giudice calling her husband for help and a crying Laurita being comforted by fellow Housewife Siggy Flicker, all went well on the cast's girls trip to Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, New Jersey.
So well, in fact, that Giudice and Laurita's friendship may be all but repaired for good.

The legacy of Kurt Cobain is one of maddening genius, maddening potential and the maddening disappointment and betrayal of how much of that potential went unfulfilled when he took his own life at 27. Maybe that's why my immediate reaction to Brett Morgen's Sundance premiere documentary "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" was visceral pleasure and appreciation, but a maddening uncertainty about what else I was supposed to take from the film. And maybe that's why after five more minutes of contemplating "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," I was able ponder the possibility that Morgen wants his documentary to be definitive exactly be virtue of being so undefinitive. An often spectacular piece of multi-media assemblage, takes viewers on a journey at least somewhat into Kurt Cobain's brain and into his life and if that leaves you wanting more... Well, of course it does. "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" begins with practically feigned happiness in Aberdeen,...

The setting (St. Lucia) was paradise. The ring (3.5 carats!) was picture perfect. But to the shock and surprise of Bachelor viewers, Juan Pablo Galavis did not propose to his final rose recipient, Nikki Ferrell, on the show's 18th season finale. The couple gave an exclusive interview and photo shoot to People, then swiftly declined to do any other press. (Chris Harrison likely understands why.) In their sole sitdown, Galavis remained laid-back about the show's outcome. "You go on [The Bachelor] thinking if there is the connection, you propose," Galavis, 32, tells People. "But I don't feel there's a need to propose to somebody if I don't feel 100 percent.

While a breakup is undoubtedly difficult on the couple experiencing it, it can often also leave friends of the former couple in a lurch. Mutual friends often try to reconcile their personal relationships with the two individuals in a way that leaves everyone happy. With Matty and Jenna’s relationship existing in the cocoon of high school, this is even more apparent, and this week’s episode examines how their mutual friends cope and adjust to the change in their lives, in another solid episode that once again lets several characters share the spotlight.

“I don’t understand why India looks up to the Oscars… Audience is my Oscar.” – Mira Nair, quoted in The Telegraph, Kolkata, December 1, 2012
Satyajit Ray
On April 23, 1992, a man died. A tall man once blessed with broad shoulders, a headful of dark, well-set hair, and sharply chiseled features; a man who touched several art forms, enriching whatever he touched. Satyajit Ray had served the cause of art and aesthetics as few modern Indians had before him, and none after. When he died, India mourned and the Bengali people immediately realized that they had lost their last Renaissance man.
Recalling that fateful day, novelist Amitav Ghosh has written: “The day of Satyajit Ray’s death was like none that Kolkata had ever seen before. When the news began to spread, a pall of silence descended on the city. Next morning hundreds of thousands of people filed past his body, braving the intense heat.

Alexander Skarsgard (HBO’s True Blood), the son of fellow actor Stellan Skarsgard (Taking Sides) will next be seen in a skimpy Viking costume. The vampire bad boy with a true, but not-beating heart will take his Nordic good looks in a new epic that is said to be in a similar vein to Gladiator or Braveheart.
The movie, which is going by the working title The Vanguard, will be written by screenwriter Chris Boal, brother of The Hurt Locker scribe Mark Boal.
The story centers on the adventures of two Viking warrior brothers who embark on a journey to return to Sweden after being banished to North America.
The project is being eyed as a potential tentpole for WB Studios.
Since Skarsgard has three brothers, named Gustaf, Bill and Valter, one of them could be the second one Viking warrior, at least.

Sarah Palin's new reality TV series debuts this weekend. Shushannah Walshe talks to producer Mark Burnett about Palin's massive payday, her 2012 race, and how the show may make her more appealing politically.
Sarah Palin's slick, new reality show, premiering this Sunday night, may qualify as the earliest, most expensive presidential campaign ad ever made.

Last night, in New York City’s Time Warner Center, Tlc feted the forthcoming premiere of Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Based on a preview of the show’s social media campaign, it was evident that the network-approved narrative surrounding the series has already been honed. First and foremost, Tlc is insistent that Sarah Palin’s Alaska is not pushing a particular agenda. “It’s not political,” Brian Reich, the show’s social-media strategist, told a group of reporters, although he conceded that a scene in which Palin complains about her new neighbor, journalist Joe McGinnis, might be construed as partisan. Reich was manning a PowerPoint presentation that detailed the launch of Not Taking Sides, a new blog hosted by Tlc designed to emphasize the show’s lack of political affiliation. The penultimate slide in the PowerPoint, shown above, was a photo of Sarah Palin wielding a gun.

I knew this episode was in trouble when, in the opening scenes, Kevin went through security at the courthouse while Nora nagged him on the phone about coming to her "meet your half-brother lunch." His response? To leave his cell phone with the security guard so he could talk to Nora instead of Kevin.
This was bad because A) it meant of course we were in for another Walker get together B) we were about to see the Walker children again dodge Nora and C) Kevin just leaving his cell phone was just plain silly like too much about this show of late.
Sure enough, we then get a cavalcade of the Walker children brushing Nora off one at a time. At least Tommy has a decent excuse since he's being arraigned in court for embezzling money from Ojai. And I guess Kevin has to be there to defend him because he's ... oh,...

It was not so much a "shocking death" that ABC had promoted earlier about "Brothers & Sisters" last night's episode. However, the show is prepared for a larger scheme that involves an arrival and departure.
Nora is asking the favor of the whole family to welcome the love-child of William, Ryan Lafferty who is played by Luke Grimes. Ryan gets a bit too close too fast for anyone's good.
