If you’re looking for family-friendly programming, you might assume Disney+ is your best choice. But according to the Parents Television and Media Council, families might want to look elsewhere for a safe harbor. The group looked across the streaming landscape to catalog which platforms offered the most TV-g or TV-pg original series.
Interestingly, Apple TV+ was rated the best service for family programming. It offers the largest number of TV-g-rated original programs. Twenty-six out of 139 programs (19%) were rated for general audiences. Only 6% were rated PG. Half (50%) of all original content on AppleTV+ is rated TV-ma.

The worst platform for family-friendly content is Prime Video. Less than 3% of original content is rated TV-g or TV-pg. Prime Video’s content spend has been seemingly erratic, with major funding going to Thursday Night Football, and effects-heavy epics like “The Wheel of Time” or “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

It’s still Caillou‘s world, we’re all just living (and swimming) in it.
The proof of that is in TVLine’s exclusive first look at Caillou: Adventures With Grandma and Grandpa, a new CGI special hitting Peacock on Thursday, Aug. 25. The titular tyke can’t wait to go swimming with his grandparents, and it’s quite literally all he — or anyone else in his family — can talk about. We hope nothing exciting happened in anyone else’s day, because this dinner conversation will be restricted to talk of “splish” and (time permitting) also “splash.”

There's a common misconception that children's cinema, like children's television and children's literature, doesn't have to be good. Sure, kids may not be the most discerning consumers of media -- just ask any parent who has been forced to watch "Caillou" ad nauseum. But although they don't have as much experience as moviegoers, and they might not necessarily be able to articulate why a film is good or bad, children certainly know when they see something that provokes an emotional response. And you'll know too, because they'll watch those movies over and over and over again.

Let’s get one thing straight here before moving on, I’m not condoning canceling any show, even Caillou, since not only does it eventually lead to censorship, but it implies that a story has no value whatsoever. As someone that writes stories for a living that’s a hard thing to say since every story has at least some value, even if people want to disagree. Think of it this way, the things we value might hold no value at all to someone else, and vice versa obviously. But stating that we should cancel everything that bothers us is harmful to our

It sounds like being an annoying character is enough to make people rejoice that Caillou has been canceled, but by that measure, it does feel that there should be a lot of other characters that ought to be canceled as well if that’s all it takes. It’s only been 20 years since people started watching Caillou, and apparently, it’s taken this long for the network to finally take the show off the air since Caillou is a whiny and devilish brat that teaches bad behavior and has no educational quality to it at all. Are people serious? It almost feels

PBS Kids has said goodbye to the Caillou TV show after airing the animated pre-school series for more than 20 years. The show stopped airing on PBS Kids on December 27th. While many online are cheering that the educational series has been cancelled, they're actually a bit late to the party.
For those without young children, the Caillou TV series revolves around the day-to-day adventures of Caillou, an inquisitive four-year-old boy with a big imagination. He lives with his parents, Doris (Jennifer Seguin) and Boris (Pat Fry), two-year-old sister Rosie (Jesse Vinet), and Gilbert (Bob Stutt), the family cat. Caillou attends pre-school under the guidance of his teacher, Miss Martin (Ellen David), and plays with classmates Clementine (Sofie Holland), Sarah (Melissa Pirrera), and best friend Leo (Graeme Jokic). After 20 years on the air, long-running PBS Kids show Caillou has been canceled. PBS Kids made the announcement on Twitter, along with tips for parents on how to break the news to children, but it appears that many are cheering the decision and are happy to say goodbye to a series that they have complained has been teaching their kids bad habits.
Caillou, which first premiered on PBS on September 4, 2000, centers on a precocious boy and his family. The show ran for five seasons until 2010, when it went into syndication on PBS.
It has long been the target of complaints by parents who claimed the show taught their kids to be whiny and bratty, and social media erupted with several viewers celebrating news of the cancellation.
One viewer tweeted a clip of the title character tormenting his baby sister and said, “caillou was one evil ass mf.”

In a highly competitive situation, Apple has made a deal with Dhx Media to produce new “Peanuts” content for the tech giant’s upcoming streaming service, Variety has learned.
Dhx and its subsidiary, Peanuts Worldwide, will develop and produce original series, specials and shorts based on the iconic gang of characters created by Charles M. Schulz.
As part of the partnership, Dhx will produce original short-form Stem content that will be exclusive to Apple featuring astronaut Snoopy. Peanuts Worldwide and Nasa recently signed a Space Act Agreement, designed to inspire a passion for space exploration and the Stem fields among the next generation of students.
Dhx acquired a large stake in the “Peanuts” gang in May 2017. The $345 million deal also gave Dhx control of the “Strawberry Shortcake” franchise, adding to a children’s programming portfolio that also includes “Teletubbies,” “Caillou,” “Inspector Gadget,” and the “Degrassi” franchise.

Popeye, the 89-year-old spinach-powered mariner, will be launching his first new adventures in more than a decade in new animated originals slated to debut on the brand’s YouTube channel.
The new material will come under a pact between WildBrain, a digital kids’ network and studio, and Hearst’s King Features Syndicate, which handles licensing for the Popeye franchise. WildBrain will create new animated content in the “squash-and-stretch” animation style of Popeye, in collaboration with King Features.
Also under the agreement, WildBrain will take over management of the “Popeye and Friends Official” channel on YouTube, launched in January 2017, with an eye toward boosting its audience. Initially, WildBrain plans to produce new compilations of Popeye classic cartoons, drawing from shows including “Popeye,” “Popeye and Son,” and “The Continuing Adventures of Popeye.”
It’s worth noting that King Features is focusing on YouTube and digital platforms to serve as Popeye’s anchor — not TV.

Chicago – Just as there are tiers of animation in the United States, there are varying degrees of quality in our imported product as well. In the States, we know not everything can be Pixar. I suppose the French equivalent is not everything can be “The Illusionist” or “Triplets of Belleville”. And so we shouldn’t approach the recently imported 3D family film, “A Monster in Paris” with that standard of movie magic. The script for this fantasy is a bit thin and the visuals can be disappointing but it has a pleasant spirit, bouncy energy, and air of romance that allow it to work well for a rental. And it’s not weighed down with the gross-out jokes and pop culture references that often sink Hollywood 3D animated productions.

Halifax-based Dhx Media, which is run by Michael Donovan, will snag Cookie Jar’s library of around 6,000 half hours of classic programming like Arthur, Caillou and Care Bears by offering 36 million Dhx

TORONTO -- Canadian animation producer Cookie Jar Entertainment on Monday said it has hired Hasbro Properties Group executive Susan Richter as its Los Angeles-based vp of U.S. licensing.
Richter, most recently director of licensing at Hasbro, joins Toronto-based Cookie Jar a week after the Canadian company lured Wiebke Hoefer away from rival Canadian cartoon producer Nelvana Ltd. to become its Paris-based director of European sales.
"Susan Richter is a consummate licensing executive whose depth of experience, from preschool through girls, boys and tweens, is a perfect match for our growing portfolio of properties," Cookie Jar senior vp of consumer products John Gildea, said in a statement.
While at Hasbro, Richter oversaw licensing for such well-known brands as Transformers, Playskool, GI Joe and Tonka. Having earned a B.A. in broadcast communications from Temple University, Richter cut her teeth in the apparel industry, working for L.A. Gear and Danskin, among others.
Cookie Jar, formerly Cinar Entertainment, has among its own properties The Doodlebops and Spider Riders in addition to perennial hits like Arthur and Caillou.
