Shoot and scoot

This was an excellent game (you can DL it for free nowadays). You are in command of a squad of Mobile Infantry (MI) and tasked with various missions that usually involve running around a map and shooting rockets at bugholes.

Your men will start the game in the basic MI armor, a grey helmet and a grey tunic. The safest way to keep your men alive is to group them into a huddled mass (circle formation) to concentrate their firepower. As your precious troopers advance in rank they will be authorized to pilot mechanized suits and heavier weapons - they will likely retain the huddled mass formation.

The controls are simple but can be frustrating until you get a good grip on them (having your camera locked on the wrong man, shooting micro-rockets into your own men).

There isn't a whole lot in the ways of tactics (see a bughole, shoot a bughole, rinse repeat) and by the middle of the game each of your high ranked soldiers has access to powerful Micro-rockets which can easily dispatch the most powerful bugs (which are strangely less and less frequent as the game progresses).

If you liked the movie you will probably enjoy this mindless game - like I did!

Recommended as a great Tac game!

A game that harkens back to the good ol' days of X-Com, Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy puts you in the lead of a platoon of the Mobile Infantry. Choose your squad, equip them with some pretty cool weapons (Lucifuge Flamethrower; bow to your master), and watch your dropship land on the planet and unload your troopers!

The big thing about this game is the inclusion of the awesome Battlesuits. Conveniently omitted from the movie, these things make the game worth every penny. Finally, the words "On the bounce!" make sense! From the entertaining MiST Sniper, to the dreaded words "Fire in the hole!" that are yelled when a guy launches a mini-nuke. This game is must-have for Tactical sqaud based players.

Oh, and a hint: on the Whiskey Outpost mission (from the movie); for a *good* time, leave the door OPEN to the base. "All that you got!"

Get this game

I was very hesitant to pick this one up. I saw the original star ship troopers game at e3 3 or 4 years ago. It was more of an action oriented third person shooter back then.

Shortly after I heard that the project got cancelled. Instead, it was just altered into more of a tactical game. Usually when games get "altered" by publishers, the end product is horrid.

This time, however, an exciting, fun, and challenging product was born. The graphics seem blocky on the box, but I assure you.. when you see it on your monitor you definitely won't be complaining.

The game recreates some of the movie's pivotal scenes -- I just got massacred at Whiskey Outpost.

This is a definite must have for the Starship Troopers movie fan as well as for any real time strategy gamer.
