Low-brow porn tries to have a story
lor_2 December 2014
Adam Ward, the Joe Don Baker of early porn, stars in this would-be storyline sex film, and is to be commended for actually creating a characterization. But director Richard Mailer (who gives himself a starring role for a change) fails to deliver the goods.

Ward is a small-time demolition derby driver, who has a way with the women. There is some feeble plotting of rivalry with fellow racers and a very poorly staged punch-out scene (some of the worst attempts at pulling stunt punches I've seen), but it's basically an all-sex filler feature.

Stock footage at the race track is inserted from time to time to null effect. Film's highlight is an extraneous scene in a hospital where two nurses service Adam, who's ostensibly there (lying on a bed rather than sitting in a waiting room) to visit his mechanic who was injured in the aforemetnioned punch-out. Tina Smith, interestingly styled wearing glasses and in nurse's garb, is a sight for sore eyes here - I first joined her fan club after seeing her in the softcore drive-in classic THE PIG KEEPER'S DAUGHTER. Good news: she is being spotlighted in a new release from Alpha Blue Archives after suffering through decades of obscurity.

Film ends on a downbeat, sullen note, reflecting the irascible character created singlehandedly by improviser Adam. I like to think he created his stage name by combining the two BATMAN stars' monikers: Adam West and Burt Ward, but we'll never know.
