In his fantasy world, Harold searches for his pet goldfish, Goldie, who has died, and in doing so, befriends a mermaid who helps him understand the meaning of death.
After celebrating his birthday and playing with all his new toys, Harold wishes for another birthday party and along the way learns about the value of friendship.
Frustrated that he can't draw a perfect circle, Harold visits a museum. After experiencing all the different forms of art, Harold learns to appreciate his lopsided circles.
After refusing to eat squash, Harold is sent to his room. Wanting to go somewhere where no one can tell him what to do, Harold becomes a lonesome cowboy who gets entangled in a wild adventure.
