Sex & Nudity

  • Talk of sex, but never shown.
  • Some moderately strong sexual references, usually implied and not explicit.
  • One of the characters is a sex addict; he puts up many sexual jokes and double meanings, usually in every episode.
  • Some sexual situations, though nudity isn't shown.
  • Sometimes men are seen shirtless and women are shown in their underwear.

Violence & Gore

  • Medical gore, some bloody, but not graphic.
  • Occasional slapstick-style comedy.
  • J.D's fantasies can sometimes be a little gory or graphic (e.g. blood squirting out of a severed arm), although it is always for comedic effect. (These scenes are very rare)

Profanity

  • Infrequent uses of "hell", "bitch", and "damn"
  • Numerous sexual references, dialogues, and jokes.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Usage of drugs, smoking, and excessive alcohol intake are presented alongside the potential consequences.
  • During almost each episode, the main characters meet at a bar and drink plenty.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Scrubs is not graphic in any way but some people who find surgery disturbing might be unsettled by some scenes.
  • As this series is set in a hospital, plenty of patients die, suffer, or have a terminal disease, and certain episodes are very sad and depressing.
