Worst show ever aired on Nick. This was the starting point on when the network started going downhill.
segabeat6 June 2006
Sorry if anyone actually liked this, but no. Just no. This is such a pathetic excuse of an action-packed cartoon. It also felt out of place (Meaning, the shouldn't have ever aired on Nick). Even if this was aired somewhere else, this would still be a pretty mediocre show. 3 Martians come to earth and become friends with ugly-looking corny kids. The other cast members are also so bland and boring. Whenever the martians go into their "BKM Mode", they just get suits, which aren't very creative.

I consider this piece of trash a pathetic combination of Invader Zim (Martians sent to take over the world) and Jimmy Neutron (It's computer generated and the martians have a Goddard rip-off.)It seems as though this show was scraped together after Invader Zim was released and when Jimmy Neutron was in production back in 2001.

At least Nick is still smart enough to know when they need to cancel shows. And thank God this show only lasted one season. But, as other reviews say, this should never have been aired on Nickelodeon, or probably on any other TV Channel.

So, PLEASE, never watch this show if you do happen to find it on TV or if you see a DVD for sale in stores. Nickelodeon fans saw this, and suffered through it when it aired. If Nickelodeon actually makes more shows like this, then they are screwing up the minds of the next-generation of kids. Nickelodeon used to have great shows most of the time (mostly during the 90's), but then all that changed with Butt Ugly Martians appeared. Stay away from this lame and stupid show.

The only redeeming item of Butt Ugly Martians
dashadow30 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit, I agree with most of the complaints about "Butt Ugly Martians;" however, I feel it did have one redeeming quality about it and that item was Robert Stack as the voice of Stoat Muldoon, Alien Hunter. In my opinion, the only reason to watch the show is to listen to Robert Stack as he does a take off of his old TV "Untouchables"character. In most of the episodes the over-the-top Stoat has his mind blanked after discovering the Martians. The mind wipe ends with Stoat folding onto the ground and saying something along the lines of, "I don't like the darkness, Mommie." I only tuned into the show because I learned Stack was to be on the show and continued to watch because of him, but I was not supervised to see it canceled.

The worst show ever from 2001 i would prefer to watch House Of Mouse ,Lloyd In Space and The Legend Of Tarzan better than this grotesque show called Butt Ugly Martians, this one of the most disgusting shows along with King Star King, The Problem Solverz and Secret Mountain Fort Awesome.

Who got the Idea to Make This Show? (*Possible Spoilers*)
The-Flaming-Pig19 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This "Show" is one of the worst I've ever seen. It's just terrible. It is supposed to be a kids show, but it's too boring and un-funny. The people who made the script and storyline sunk down to the Low-Level of Digimon and Medabots (*Shudder*), talking about "Boarding" and "Grabbin' a Pizza, DUDE". I Have never seen one kid in that age group ever say "Dude". And the Aliens are just too dumb to be brought up until know. They talk about toilet humor and food. Not Toilet Humor Put in a funny way. They Use it to find excuses to put "Butt" and "Poo" in the Show. For Example:

Alien #1: Butt. I want some food.

Alien #2: Poo. I want some food. Let's go boarding and catch a pizza, Dude.

Alien #3: Butt.

Alien #2: Poo.

That's the script. I spoiled the Entire Season For you. My Rating: 1/10.

Butt-Ugly Martians
jboothmillard20 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a bit younger I used to think this was pretty good, my brothers used to love it, so basically I only watched because they watched it. It's about three aliens from the planet Mars who originally came to our planet to destroy us. They then befriend some kids and change their minds. So now instead of destroying the earth, they save it. With their special transformation powers they can battle other extra-terrestrial life that threatens the planet. When their not battling, their obviously chilling with their friends, usually in a pizza or ice cream restaurant. At the time, quite an amusing and interesting computer animated show. Worth watching!

Manages to be even worse than ChalkZone
TheLittleSongbird4 December 2011
Just for the record, I do like Nickolodean. The Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Ren and Stimpy are masterpieces and golden years(pre-Dil) Rugrats was great. Before, I thought ChalkZone was Nickolodean's worst, though Fanboy and Chum Chum and Rocket Power almost gave it a run for its money. Then I came across this show. Butt-ugly describes Butt-Ugly Martians quite well actually, since nothing whatsoever works about it.

It doesn't help that the concept was poor and uninteresting to begin with. And the show does little, if anything, to improve on that. The story-lines are not just dull and disjointed, they reek of corn and stupidity as well. The action scenes manage to look awkward as well, whether it was the choreography or the animation that was the problem I am not sure, my guess is a bit of both, the choreography because it looks jerky and confused and the animation because in these scenes the character designs are at their most awkward.

Faring even worse is the writing. ChalkZone, Fanboy and Chum Chum and Rocket Power may have had some lame writing, and they did, but Butt-Ugly Martians' writing is so bad it makes the aforementioned shows Emmy-worthy in comparison. The dialogue is just terrible, if I had £10 for every time I rolled my eyes watching Butt-Ugly Martians I would probably almost be a millionaire by now. The humour also stinks, just how many times do we have to hear words like "butt" and "poo"? Is it funny? Not to me, if anything it's immature and insulting to the intelligence.

Not only these, but the characters are some of Nickolodean's most irritating. As much as I don't like Timmy Turner and most of the characters of Rocket Power and all of those from ChalkZone and Fanboy and Chum Chum, they are likable compared to the annoying and severely under-developed characters in Butt-Ugly Martians. Not a single character is likable and they are hideously animated too. Speaking of the animation, I have said much about the awkward character designs, but the colours have no life or vibrancy in them and the background art is reminiscent of a badly done video game. The music is forgettable at best, and the voice work are thin and unenthusiastic, very few of the voice actors make any effort to elevate the poor material.

All in all, butt-ugly and the worst Nickolodean show ever. 0/10 Bethany Cox

It's funny how everyone here is complaining that this is considered "The worse show aired on Nickelodeon" yet this show actually seems more watchable compared to today's bad modern shows that's aired on nick. Sure it may not be considered the best show ever but ehh,it's okay i guess.

Many people will hate me for saying this....
hahoffmanart12 November 2014
....but I actually kinda liked this show??

When I told my sister this for the first time, she honestly thought I was delusional and got upset. She hated the series, until I explained why I liked it.

If there's one thing to take from Butt Ugly Martians its the voice acting. Oddly enough, they got a pretty solid voice cast who you can tell had fun on the show and did their jobs WELL. I would say the main drawback for everyone who hated this series would have to have been the poor animation, and of course the ridiculous title (try to recall that this was made during the time that truly 'ugly' and 'gross' things were kinda IN?? (see: osmosis jones movie) It didn't last long but it did happen).

And yeah, the animation is terrible. It is probably so bad that most people just can't even watch it (and yeah I can't blame you in that regard. The old 3D models even make the martians look SCARY!). Before anyone says 'that's how 3D animation looked at the time' I'll have to direct you to Beast Wars and Reboot which looked far better than this series AND were made BEFORE it.

It's strange that the animation wasn't so great, because this studio went on to make the 2002 He-man series which had really nice animation (among other series/movies with decent animation as well!). Sometimes I wonder if Butt-Ugly Martians were animated/drawn in the way that the 2002 He-man series was, it may have been seen as a beloved classic. But I digress.

The show is a bunch of cheesy (and weirdly nostalgic) fun. Things don't always make sense sadly. For instance, sometimes the martians would be in BROAD DAYLIGHT even though they're supposed to be hiding from humans, or would erase people's memories even when said person would genuinely not tell their secret. However, these complaints you can direct even at old beloved 80s cartoons which also have tons of continuity/plot problems. So yeah it has its share of inconsistencies, but I just don't feel it deserves to be considered one of the worst of television. The characters Damage and Stoat Muldoon are, for example, very fun to watch (Damage being like a sort of Starscream character and Muldoon as a well-meaning scifi nerd/hero). How can you go wrong with Robert Stack as Muldoon and the AWESOME Rob Paulson as 2T?

For those who want to revisit the series, you should try to just concentrate on the voice work and the jokes; that way it can be a more pleasant experience for you. Look at it like an 80s cartoon in some ways, not perfect but enjoyable. IDK what is the deal with some reviews bringing 'invader zim' into this?? Did this series replace that one?? I don't really know. Nonetheless, I think Butt Ugly Martians is far from perfect, but I don't think its the worst series out there either.

Well, I liked it at the time
briancham199422 April 2023
I have no idea what I'd think of this series now, but I liked it at the time. Is the animation quality as unappealing as the title suggests? Are the plots utterly thin? Are the characters utterly uncharismatic? Of course, but it was great fun to watch, and that's all I cared about. The premise is completely silly - some aliens pretend to invade Earth and hang out with teenagers drinking milkshakes and riding hoverboards, while being pursued by a buffoonish alien hunter - but it revels in this silliness and drags the audience along for a ride. It's clearly a love-it-or-hate-it quality and it wasn't enough to make the series last, but it was entertaining for me during the brief time it showed.

You Gotta Be Joking....
I_Am_The_Resurrection27 July 2005
This show sucks. That is it. The plots are terrifyingly stupid, the characters are not developed at all. The action, humor, and everything else is extremely corny and not worth of mine or everyone else's attention unless your a six-year-old boy that has ten thousand plastic guns at his disposal and loves Power Rangers. The CGI is unspectacular and its obvious that this is a rather lame spin off of the also lame show Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Any show with a title that has the word "butt" must be very juvenile and dumb. This is an example of when a television network runs out of ideas.

Any persons with any intelligence must avoid this show at all costs.

This show is pure nostalgia.
jonpat946 August 2012
A fantastically fun, silly show, nothing but nostalgia for me and I love it for that. It doesn't take itself seriously, and the animation - even though it's pretty primitive CGI - fits the silly attitude. People seem to take this show far too seriously and give it negative reviews all the time, but in my opinion that's totally uncalled for. It's a fun, silly show, not exactly the sort that'll be remembered for years to come, but is still enjoyable to me and most likely to others who were young when this show came out. I have no idea who Robert Stack is or was, or why people are so angry and worked up over the fact that this was his last acting role. As far as I'm concerned, this is just a silly CGI cartoon designed to amuse, cringe- worthy acting and all.

And Angela's ass is legendary.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm an 18 year old and I enjoy quality, imaginative animation. Yes, 18. Those of you in the no one-over-9-should-be-watching-cartoons-anyway crowd should keep in mind that animation studios aren't run by toddlers, and you can't CREATE a quality cartoon without a lingering love for them.

That said, I know a good show when I see one, and with all due respect to the animaters, this just doesn't measure up. I don't think I even NEED to point out the factors that make this a low quality program (just read the previous posts. Don't worry, there is critisizem of the SHOW rather then the fact that it made Zim fans angry. You have to look, but they're there). I would have to say that the only redeeming quality is that it removed the supermodel female character trend (while re-inforceing the toilet humor trend 10 fold). The Butt-Ugly martians probably would have been a little more well received had Jimmy Neutron and Invader ZIM came out after 2001, but it merely looks like a cheap collage of both programs.

Bottem line: The only reason I even REMEMBER this show is because it was poor.

I Wasn't Alive Until I Saw This Show
skyhallas24 April 2016
Listen up Martians! This show is the pinnacle of entertainment. The Butt-Ugly Martians were molded into existence by creative mastermind Michael Train. Train knew that TV needed heroes, and that happened when B-Bop A-Luna, 2T Fru-T and Do-Wah Diddy didn't want to fight a war but instead opted to ride hover boards. Nothing in the world is more angelic and blissful than watching all of the Butt-Ugly Martians late at night alone. It makes me happy that I don't have friends. But I do have friends. I have three of them. B-Bop A-Luna, 2T Fru-T and Do-Wah Diddy. They are all I needed to become the successful man I am today. Please understand that this makes Big Bad Beetleborgs look like Bad Fad Bingleturds. Do yourself a favor: lock yourself away from society and watch every single episode of Butt-Ugly Martians.

What Was Nickelodeon Thinking?
kimi200021 November 2001
Nickelodeon, threw the years have broadcasted some of the most funniest, and creative, and adorable shows ever. Yet, they seem to stop dead when it comes to Butt Ugly Martians, just the name makes me feel uncomfortable. I've watched two episodes, and basically, they missed everything a real Nicktoon has. The humor that is found in Rugrats, Invader Zim, The Fairly Oddparents, and basically almost all of the other Nicktoons. The cuteness of the characters such as Spongebob Squarepants. The interesting human characters (This depends on if the show has humans in it), such as the characters from Rocket Power, As Told By Ginger and Pelswick. The amazing animation like in Jimmy Neutron. This show lacks it all, and more. Not to mention the teens' really ugly hair, and people thought Jimmy's hair was scary? Think again! I have loved Nickelodeon for years, but if they keep broadcasting stupid shows like Butt Ugly Martians, they might as well be canceled.

Painful to watch
itsallabout_me8718 November 2001
This is most definitely the single worst and stupidest show on Nickelodeon. It's not funny, it's not action packed, and there is absolutely no charm or plot to it whatsoever. It is embarrassing and insulting if Nickelodeon really underestimates kids enough to think they'll want to watch this. The "story," from what I can tell, revolves around three characterless aliens and three equally boring teenagers. The aliens were sent to conquer Earth (I guess) but what they really want to do is sit around and eat junk food (I guess). Now, this could have been a fun premise (I guess) if conceived right. It couldn't have gone more wrong. I swear: IN A HALF-AN-HOUR, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED. It was stunning how bad this show was. It was void of absolutely anything that would have made the show worth while. Also, I think Nick needs to learn there's a difference between quality and computer animation. The characters move so clunkily, it will make you cringe. Please, don't even try watching this show. Spend your time on quality programming like "Invader Zim" or "Samurai Jack." Or even better, just turn off the TV.

Zero stars.

You know a show has problems when the words 'Butt Ugly' are in the title.
Op_Prime4 February 2002
That summary doesn't begin to describe how bad this show is. Besides an incredibly stupid title, the plot to the show is really dumb. It makes no sense. Whatever action or humor seen in the show is incredibly lame. The computer animation is so bad, no where nearly as good as the many other computer animated series out there. This show is such a waste of a time slot and takes time away from good shows like Invader Zim. Nick should get rid of this garbage and try to regain some dignity.

vickyangel17 December 2001
I actually thought this was a very good TV show and although I'm not in the actual age range for it, I loved it. The aliens were cute and the stories were good, and actually I thought alot did happen in the 1/2 hour. A very good show and of course the fact that Charlie Schlatter did a voice over was good. Can't wait to see more of the martians!!!

Butt Ugly show!
andykleinendorst25 November 2001
This show by far is the stupidest, most boring show ever. The computer graphics are so terrible I'm scared. What's wrong with the humans and their long Eyelashes? I took about the whole show period, to figure out whether or not the blonde kid was a girl or a guy! Besides the lame humor, (which by the way a little kid would not even laugh at) the acting was horrible. Where is the expression! I don't even know why Nickelodeon accepted the idea for this. I must agree, Nick should only keep good shows like "Invader Zim", Fairly Oddparents", "Rugrats", and all the others. Just the theme song for the "Butt ugly martians" was enough to scare the viewer away. The plot could not get any more predictable; 3 Martians sent out to Conquer Earth (sounds a little bit like Zim) decide they like Earth too much to actually destroy it so they fake that they are fighting for their Emperor. Then Every week the Emperor stays clueless about their faking it. Duhh who is that stupid? This show is a waste of time, for even taking up Invader Zim's Time frame.

So what if it's being bad-mouthed? I LOVE THIS SHOW!
gogogadgetgir731 April 2002
When I saw the commercials, I thought the show would have been a waste of money, but I loved it! The show takes place on Earth at a point where aliens are likely to take over Earth and three martians are sent to conquer Earth, but they decided to take the "eat, drink and be merry" theory to the extremes while sending phony reports to their emperor and at all costs avoid dotcom alien hunter Stoat Muldoon (voiced by movie legend Robert Stack). This kids' show is funny to me and I'm 14 years old!

I noticed a lot of bad reviews from this show and I think that this show doesn't deserve them...So what if the show getting bed reviews? I LOVE IT! It makes being flogged with 5 copies of the Sunday newspaper from hardcore Invader Zim fans seem worthwhile.

I'm glad I used an old tape...
mines198523 April 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I heard this show was WILDLY popular over in Britain, although I never even HEARD of it until I saw it on the TV guide. I heard it was awful but decided I would watch it and see if it was any good. It was on at a time when I wasn't able to watch, so I decided to videotape it, using an old tape. I'm glad I did. This show was bad for three main reasons. (**Please note: this may contain mild spoilers of what happens in the show.) Read on...

1. The theme song. In most action-adventure cartoons, the theme gives some information about the show. This incredibly short (30-second-long) theme gave absolutely NO information as to: a) How the Martians got to Earth in the first place; b) what they are supposed to be doing there; or c) why they are CALLED the Butt-Ugly Martians, and why they hang around with a trio of teens that don't seem to know what they're doing, either. Also, the song itself was confusing: the Martians sing, "We are the Martians, the Butt-Ugly Martians!" but later in the song they chant, "B! K-M! B! K-M!" WHY?! Shouldn't it be B-U-M?! It doesn't even seem like their initials! Do they have a different name in Britain or Canada? Maybe another viewer can help me out with this one.

2. The plot. What plot? Unfortunately, this show reminded me too much of many brain-dead shows that made their debuts in the early 90's. Usually, there is an underlying theme, or some kind of constant problem that sometimes surfaces. This show apparently had NONE that I could figure out, at least at the start. The plot was generally disjointed and confusing. We have absolutely NO information what they're doing until the middle of the show when they transform! That's when they FINALLY decide that they'll tell us they have special powers that they should use to take over Earth, and that they're PROTECTING Earth instead. In fact, I got most of the information ahead of time in the little preview (coming up next on "Butt-Ugly Martians..."). Are the Martians supposed to be taking over Earth? Who's the weird Emperor? What the HECK IS GOING ON?!?!

3. The characters. They are not well-developed and the viewer, as mentioned before, has no idea what is going on or who the characters are until they address each other by name. You can't check what their names are at the ending credits; there are no names matched up with the cast. As said before, they should have given some info in the theme song, instead of leaving us in the dark.

All in all, this show is not well-put together, not well-developed, and truly a waste of half an hour. I would not recommend this show to anyone. Spend your time watching something else, if you're going to watch TV at all.

Super-Ugly!
dee.reid18 June 2002
Well, what is there to say about a show that stars a group of ugly-a** Martians who come to Earth to destroy it, only to end up liking it, and to compensate for their newfound lack-of-interest in destroying Earth, they send fake progress reports back to their home planet? Simply stupid is all you can really say.

The animation for this show is so laughably bad, that I'm not sure it can even be called a cartoon. The plot is about as idiotic as it can get. When will the executives at Nickelodeon learn that they can't fool us into believing that this is real entertainment? At this rate, probably never.

Warning: Spoilers
This is the most horrible show I've ever seen. Period. There are no good points that I can name.

SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

This is about three kids, five martians (two trying to take over the world), an alien hunter (as he calls himself), a robotic dog, a fast food geek, and in the first episode, one of the kids parents that never come home.

Stack, Soucie, and Paulsen are the only veteran actors. The others are just there.

Not so bad for the intended age group
mselvagg12 July 2002
Sure, I hear a lot of bad things about the show, but it simply seems like anyone over 13 just doesn't like it. What are these people doing watching Nickelodeon, anyway? The target demographic is about 9 years old!

So the animation is painful and the production isn't the most stellar - the point is that for those who make up the target audience, it's entertaining. They seem to enjoy watching, and although it's not something I'd want in my personal video library, it seems to be all right for kids. (Actual kids - not simply childish adolescents who rag this show and then are somehow convinced that "Spongebob" is a towering tribute to the field of animation.)
